TToB: People are the least likely to attempt suicide in the first few days after hospitalization for depression. Tough or Bluff???

I think current research is moving toward or has moved toward mandating hospitalizations being unethical and absolute last resort.

2024-06-19 23:54:31 +0000 UTCIt's fairly well-known that more suicide attempts occur when the person feels well enough to actually do it, sadly.

2024-06-18 16:32:16 +0000 UTCIt’s BLUFF! It’s the opposite, in that the highest risk is in the first 3 days after discharge. (DOI: 10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2023.5512)

2024-06-12 06:46:41 +0000 UTCI would hope this is true, or else mandatory hospitalisation as an intervention for suicide attempts would seem rather unethical. But there's probably a great deal of context I'm not considering.

2024-06-11 21:23:12 +0000 UTCIve actually heard that the closest train/subway stations around hospitals are sort of hot spots for suicides and the idea is that people come out of the system and are left to their own devices without much help to look foward to. I dont know if it applies to depression hospitalization but I guess if you're hospitilazed for that, its cause you're a suicide risk.

But in the first 3 days after hospitalization for chronic depression, he had completely given up on life and was asking the doctors for ways to end his misery.
