I hope Bob is doing better. He always makes me feel less alone. He can articulate feelings I can't always describe within myself. Grateful for him

Mel Chinnici

Thank you, Amy 🙂

Bob—Thank you for your bravery and willingness to share your trauma and healing with us. YOU validate my own journey and it has changed my life. I feel heard and understood and I am reminded that I am not alone. I hope you had a lovely birthday.

I wrote a “policy report” at uni about problematic internet use. From memory, the research stemmed from internet gaming disorder and will be eventually grouped with compulsive behaviours for conceptual clarity once enough research has been established (if research continues in the current direction) There is also an adolescence development aspect (which my assignment was focused on) but it seems still to be linked to other compulsions. From the top of the dome, I think a lot of research studied comorbid body dysmorphia and eating disorders; anxiety was mentioned often. This probably seems obvious but I thought it might be nice to comment for those who also wonder why it’s not described as a compulsive or problematic behaviour under another established disorder. I can’t remember all that much about social developmental disorders so I’m not the best person to explain this lol

Laura

DTD (or Developmental Trauma Disorder) sounds like it would be a useful diagnosis for capturing the effects of developmental trauma under their own diagnosis, where classic PTSD symptomatology is not present. https://www.apa.org/monitor/2021/07/ce-corner-developmental-trauma

Wanting something can feel scary. I used to really freak out when asked what I wanted within a close relationship or even worse about my "goals in life" (like goals for the new year.) For me it was related to wanting something equalling being too lively and making myself be seen and heard which could elicit spite and threats by my parents as a kid. Sending care, Bob ♥️.

Tonja

Oh, very sorry to hear about Sue Johnson passing away.

Tonja

Happy birthday Bob! We love you and you are the human embodiment of a warm ray of sunshine.

“What is Trauma?..” : https://youtu.be/BJfmfkDQb14?si=xh6HujbAm_GVNTdN ⬆️ This is an interview with Bessel van der Kolk on his work with trauma dating back to before they conceptualized the definition of PTSD to legitimize traumatic injuries suffered by veterans. Looked for this after seeing clips of it in another video from “Nice People” called “The Politics of Trauma (and why it will never be in the DSM)” .. https://youtu.be/AGjDCU3x-As?si=DU6t_APX17CaEZOS
