The Psychology of Daenerys Targaryen (2019 Rerun)

Comments

One thing that's interesting is that in the early books Daenerys doesn't seem to want to be ruler, or go back to Westeros at all. She talks to Viserys about going back to their 'home' which was a little apartment in Bravos that throughout the series she remembers fondly or longs to return to. But it's the 'right' thing for a Targaryan to be in power, and she was told growing up that the Westerosi people were wanting her to return. So she's probably thinking "I sacrificed having a nice peaceful life for this?"

Y'all are smart, but can't be right about everything I guess ;) Just kidding. I agree with Umberto that it should've been a momentary rage that she then realizes her mistake and heads for the Red Keep. Her entire story line she's learning that she needs to be brutal to the people in power and she gets her power from aligning with the majority/downtrodden. So for her to zig-zag back and forth over the smallfolk in kings landing is what I think is completely out of character. That's Mad King Aerys behavior. To paraphrase Machiavelli "if you need to choose between allying with the nobles and the commoners, choose the commoners. If the nobles turn on you, you can kill them. If the commoners all turn on you, you're screwed." (the Prince, ch 9)
