Culture Bound Syndromes (2017 Rerun)

Comments

Zaar is one interesting cultural bound syndrome which now is getting more stigmatized by western educated psychologists. It was a good outlet in otherwise oppressive society of women to act out and vent and express their feelings. The performance of the ceremony and community surrounding the afflicted women is healing. Also super entertaining and topic of jokes among older women. As for the west, some of the menopausal symptoms can be categorised as a cultural bound syndrome since the symptoms are not universal across cultures and well studied. As western ideology floods other cultures I suspect more women will experience similar anxiety like symptoms around their menopause. https://dictionary.apa.org/zar

Really loved this topic. Gotta love the random ones as much as the heavier ones! I’ve been here for years I can’t even remember. You’re my fav of all the therapists I’ve listen to and the few I’ve tried that didn’t vibe w/me. I have the highest opinion of you honestly. I have a question for you if you haven’t covered it before. If you have I’ll happily listen to it from however long ago. I’m not sure where to ask my question or topic if I could please get a lil guidance right now and then I’ll have it down
