Imagine a second ai is set to figuring out how to make certain stocks go down... I guess they have to fight now.

Native American movies weren't mentioned in this podcast, and share very similar movie protrayals as discussed (such as characterizations from wise and knowing to evil and misunderstood). Two native movies that immediately come to mind are: Smoked Signals (one of my favorites of all time), and Indian Horse. Also, an "American continent" movie that is really good: A Fantastic Woman (Chile). Thank you for exploring a little about this subject. I enjoy your podcasts a lot.

My husband would strongly contest that the Godfather is a white person movie. He is Italian and takes issue anytime someone calls him white.

The Wedding Banquet is Asian American. The son (Wai Tun) is a Taiwanese-American (student immigrant I think) living in the NYC with his white boyfriend and because he wasn’t out with his parents he went along with an elaborate fake wedding to please his Taiwanese parents. It’s a beautiful film about the tension between individual desires and familial/societal expectations. One of the best examples of Ang Lee’s story telling.

El Norte is a phenomenal film and the focus is on the experience of getting to and being in the States. Please watch this film. For me, it is especially heartbreaking because I had a former student who was a real project- had to petition the courts to get out of prison a week early so he wouldn’t miss the start of fall semester. He really struggled but he worked so hard and he ended up getting into graduate school. But I can’t share anymore about the tragedy that happened to him because it would ruin the movie for you. This is one of the first movies that took the indigenous perspective and it really is a fantastic film
