Loving this. Studying with you ill get the irritable Bowen synstrome 🙈

I've wondered a lot about the overlap between bowen theory and attachment theory. It sounds like bowen formulated his theory before attachment theory was fully formulated. I also know that attachment was not really accepted until the early 80s, I think, and even then it still played a minor role. I would love to hear a comparison of the 2 theories. Would bowen and bowlby have known each other? Where would they have agreed and disagreed?

I love listening to you explain theories! I love how Bowenian theory reads like a roast of undifferentiated people 😂

Yes. You got it. That the most useful definition, in my opinion. However, the term is used in a variety of ways today.

Hi!! Can someone clarify to me the distinction between an overfunctioner/underfunctioner dynamic and codependecy? I just listened to the Codependency deepdive and I understand more, but not enough to be able to explain it myself. Is to be a codependent person essentially to be someone who has a need to be the overfunctioner to an underfunctioner? Or does simplifying it like that miss a whole lot? Thank you!!
