the “I’ve always wanted to play guitar” part reminded me of a Maria Bamford bit about her being overly supportive and pressuring people to “make real every passing whim and fantasy! 😤” I appreciate that you took them literally Honda. They were just saying something nice as small talk, you’re right that if they really wanted to, they would have. Though I will say that I had a schema of not being good enough/not being able to learn, which combined with the difficulty of pushing through being awful, made me avoidant of my guitar for a long time. I had to actively let go of that anxiety and practice self-compassion around the learning process before I was able to get good tone. I think that it’s much easier to learn as a kid for a few reasons, but one is that they don’t know to be afraid of sucking as much 😂
