Added 2025-07-18 14:45:31 +0000 UTCHey all, it's Friday so its time for my sometimes weekley developer blog post! I'm getting closer and closer to finally having the next playtest/in development build ready, Version 0.2a.
I would personally like to playtest the game myself one more time just to make sure theres no more game breaking issues, and then after that the build will officially be ready for you all to try out! It's been quite a while since the last build with a ton of changes, so I'm hoping you all will.
Heres what I've got to share this week!

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS
Code Cleaning:
Yet again I've been doing more code cleaning, primarily focusing on the intro area. I've got a new test room for debug purposes where I'm putting every possible interaction and starting to comb through everything to make sure every interaction has the correct flags, id's and to also make sure they remain consistent. An example of the consistency would be the staff members "Help" option, in ver 0.1a all of the characters have different options and dialouge that is either outdated or just wrong. My plan is to ensure all of these are now instead up to date and consistent. This process is taking a bit longer than I expected, so I think I'll just continue working on it in the background instead of implementing them fully.
For now, most of Bliss's interactions are now cleaned and in game, making her the most completed character (in addition to also having 6 of her 8 fat sprites also done too).
The interactions in the new tutorial are also mostly cleaned too, though Phoebe and Jel still need further work done with their later scenes (Like pre rush and breaktime for example).
If people want me to instead finish this up I can certainly do that, it just might delay the update further. So please let me know if thats something I should finish up or not! (If I get no comments I'll assume no)
Music:
Whilst I did commission some music for this game and some songs are still being finished I was shown and purchased a cheap but very handy music library. The 80 Songs pack by Mooanna Games, which only cost $10. This music library has some pretty nice jams that I've decided to use for the game. Some of these will likely be permenant, though there is a chance some might replaced in the future. For now though the game feels much better to play through with actual songs going on!
Text Sounds:
This is a topic I've talked about in the past, and I mentioned in last weeks blog post as a "Maybe" on my To do list due to an issue that I couldn't seem to figure out.
Well I can thankfully say said issue was resolved, text sounds have now been added to the game, as well as an option to disable them should you choose to do so.
I plan on every character having a unique text sound, this is still taking some time so for version 0.2a some characters will just use the default text sound if they're currently missing it. Right now, Bliss, Chum, Frankie, Idris, Jenny, Laura, Mary, Maddie and Generic text all have sounds. There might be some spots where the text sounds don't play properly or use the wrong ones, but these will be fixed as development continues!
That's everything for this week, I still plan on releasing Ver 0.2a soon, I was hoping for possibly this weekend though this is not 100% confirmed yet. I promise that the build WILL release sometime this month, so please keep an eye out for any future posts!
