Dev Blog 27 | Jel's Cafe | Lord Desmond and Cafe Themes

Hey all, its friday so its time for my weekley development update! Heres everything I've done this week!

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS

Lord Desmond:

Lord Desmond is a brand new character that I've began developing, he will be replacing the very under-developed character "Samantha". Desmond is a vampire celebrity, hes been in TV shows and Movies meaning hes got quite the legion of adoring fans. Desmond will be acompanied by a pair of "Sold Souls", a group of entitys that act as servants and body guards for him.

Desmond is still being developed, but has been programmed into the game, writing work and adding various art assets have yet to be added to the game, though these will come over the following weeks.

New Tilesheets:

I created a new base for the cafe Tilesheets. The starting/Default design now has better looking walls, doors, and has some cleanups like to the counter. I'll likely add some decorations and other bits as development continues. The other reason a new tilesheet base was created was to make room for a new feature I developed...

Cafe Theme's and the Theme shop:

The Moth's shop has been reworked. Mary no longer sells Props, or Tilesheets. Instead she sells "Cafe Themes". These act as a hybrid of both Props and Tilesheets, themes can be used to change the look of your cafe and switch up the decorations in some cases, they'll be split into two categories, Simple and Special Themes. Simple themes will mostly just be recolors of the base cafe with some maybe having some slight design changes, Special themes however will overhaul the cafe much more, having unique decorations, floors and walls etc.

This system is still a little early in development as I only added it to the game two days ago, but the simple test theme I added and the new shopping and selecting systems work as intended, so this now gives me all the tools needed to simply add more and make them look pretty! (Eventually)

To go along with Themes, any text related to "Props" has been removed or replaced, with Mary's help option now updated for this new system.

The big bug list:

Yesterday I sat down and did a full ingame week playthrough, writing down notes for everything that I would like to update or replace, wether that be for inconsistences, accidents, or simply outdated systems (For example the pre rush segment of the game is extremley outdated so it'll likey be re developed entierly).

I also used this play session to note any bugs I find, which there were a lot, some to old things and a lot related to the new things I had recently added. I'll be working on squashing all of these bugs and going through the to do list to improve the game.

That's it for this week! I'm still working hard on the game when I can, I would like to release a 0.2 build eventually but I'm currently not sure when that would be. Keep an eye out for any annoncements or future blogs.

"Sold souls"… I like that! I wonder if they're gonna get wider alongside Lord D in the higher weight stages, but I ain't gonna be disappointed or upset if they diddly-don't. Putting 3 weight gain sequences into 1 character would probably KILL me if I were in yer shoes
