Dev blog 12 | Jel's Cafe | From 50 to 100

Happy Friday everybody, I've been hard at work on the game as usual and I have a lot to share with you all!

I still have some things to iron out and a few more bits of major content I would like to add into the next build, so there will not be a new update available this week, instead it'll be pushed to next week's blog post.

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS

Customer updates:

This week I began working on implementing the various shopping vendors as customers, for now Mary (Previously known as "Moth") has been added and can be interacted with like any other customer. However to make her appear in rotation you must first raise her friendship level to 10 (Subjected to change) by giving her gifts from the Cafe. If Mary recieves her special gift she will instantly be unlocked as a customer, whereas regular gifts take a few attempts first. This system will also be applied to Marco and Paul, who will also be unlockable customers.

In addition to some new characters being added, character stats were overhauled. The max cap for every character has been increased from 50 to 100 for both Fullness and Friendship. This means a few things, the total amount of gameplay for maxing out a character is now bigger, more sizes for a character can be added, and more tip values can be added and simplified too.

Along with this change Fullness and Friendship now show results every +10 points, for example, every +10 of Fullness will make a character's visual art change (This has yet to be added but this is how it'll work in the future), and every +10 of Friendship increases how much of a tip you will receive for successful orders.

Speaking of tips, the tipping system was also overhauled and is no longer random. In the last few builds the amount you gained from a tip was entierly random, and had a higher chance of being worth more depending on the friendship level, this system was really complicated and had issues, so now instead its the same amount for every character every 10 levels, making it easier to understand and also work with.

Lastly on the subject of characters, Jenny and Laura finally have some unique dialouge instead of reusing Idris's and Hannah's.

Logbook:

The logbook received some small tweaks, mainly to make way for the new customers being added. The logbook now contains Jel, Bliss, Phoebe and Mary, as well as two more slots for Marco and Paul.

The statuses for customers was also updated and Jenny and Laura now also have the correct descriptions instead of placeholder ones.

Performance:

Going forward with every build, the game will now be a much much smaller file size. This took some experimenting and might still cause issues at first, but essentially the game no longer contains every single rpgmaker asset and file that wasn't needed, those files add around 190MB, and if they're not needed really bloat up the game. A similar patch was added to Drawing with Nat recently, which did have some issues initially, but I belive it's all fixed and working now.

Bug Fixes:

Lastly some bug fixes!

- Fixed being able to open the inventory on some event tiles in the back alley.

- Fixed the daily UI discount not correctly previewing the right UI.
