2020-12-31 18:48:09 +0000 UTCI started with the manga and 1999 anime and back in 2011 we weren't sure if it was gonna go all the way. It was a bad direction and the fact that they had a forced flashback when Kite was younger that wasn't even in the manga I think they knew they made a mistake. Kite gave Gon Ging's license in the very first chapter, then make it so he gave right before he dies? I was very critical of this originally but I got over it.

It was so frustrating and he seemed so out of character based on nothing. From a 2011 first watcher, Gon had only even known Kite for a week or two. That change kind of ruined it tbh. I think my reaction and enjoyment would be better if I had gotten this advice about watching the first ep of 1999, or reading the manga. It's only with subsequent rewatches that it's sunk in and I've come to accept the way he acts.
