CH852

“Is that a problem?” Thera asked him. “I mean, I know that would be hard for other people but you’ve succeeded in that before.”

She wasn’t seeing the issue that was making his knuckles crack from how hard he was squeezing his fists, none of them were. He’d made high-legendary items before, even if only a few, but a task like that seemed well within the realm of possibility for him if not for one thing. What the specific phrasing of those instructions meant and the fact that of all of the craftsmen in the world, they would have only been put there to get in his way alone.

Only the skills found within your soul.

An instruction that was basically outright saying they wouldn’t accept results if he enchanted anything with the help of his deep connection. An instruction that couldn’t have been placed more than five years ago considering how recently his god had created the skill and one he doubted had been added before he’d first started to express interest in taking on that tower, blocking off one of his key abilities in a challenge that basically demanded it.

Why?

Why was every god in the world constantly finding some new method to get in his way no matter what he did for the world and how he’d compromise for them. Was it so obvious that he was going to breeze through the rest of that tower that they had to make sure he’d fall right at the end or did someone just want to spit in his face and found that to be the funniest way to do it? On the very last floor, did the gods of the world get a kick out of taking a challenge he was sure he could overcome and dropping his odds down to nothing with just a couple extra words?

Because that was the real issue there, one he couldn’t escape. He’d been making legendary items for a while now and even a few high legendaries as well, but he’d never once reached that upper ranking using nothing but the skills he’d grown within his own soul.

He didn’t even know if he could. His greatest strength was the variety he could access, something that not even the other connect holders had reached, let alone the other enchanters of the world, but when it came to the abilities he’d cultivated within himself, did he have enough that he could achieve the highest mortal level of craft?

He had fifty-five skills total, eighteen of them were awakened and seven he was a contender for but items of that ranking were normally the realm of the third tiers. It was why his teacher had told him when he’d first started learning that people who could reach that level appeared once a millennium. He was sure he had what it took to reach the lower or middle parts of that spectrum but to get to the top…

No. He told himself. I can make legendary items already by myself, by that very fact I am a once in a millennium talent. I can enchant as good as a third tier and of the skills I hold, I’m a master of most of them. It doesn’t matter if the gods wanted to try to screw me over with this once more or if they have some other reason for doing this, all that matters is finishing this tower and putting them in their place. Twelve hours? That might as well be years to plan this out. I have all of the time in the world.

He just needed to decide what item to make and what enchantments to put on it and with his rage already pushing him in one specific direction, all that mattered was refining it as he took a seat on the ground and brought his thought speed to its maximum, retreating into himself for what plans he could make.

---

Three hours later he opened his eyes and jutted up, his first sign of movement in that time that caught the attention of the others as he finally got started, pulling the homunculi out of his rings and filling each one with his soul for the task ahead.

Since the other part of that floor's instructions said he could use whatever materials he could access he wasn’t shy about pulling from his rings as the tables around him filled with magic materials while others went right to the forge, heating some up for future use while others were divided under his magic for later.

One of the clones he was working through started to fold and hammer the red-hot metal, the first blow ringing loud through the room with the strength under it, his ill intent enhancing all of his attributes to unseen heights that warped the metal beyond anything he’d intended, that one mistake needing to be fixed while the rest of him continued on with other tasks.

Certain alchemic enhancers were ground up into fine powders to be folded and blended into different metals while crystals were cut to shape with every part of the item he was making, a knife, being constructed at once under his many hands, redundancy on redundancy being created for the weight of the enchantments he intended to place. With nine hours left, he had more than enough time to remake it again and again if it came down to it.

While metals were being worked, turned into alloys of mythril and orichalcum for the magical effects they’d bring, one more was added through materialization, the faithstone he avoided making out of consideration to the gods being born of his mana now that his care had run out while crystals that would make up the blade’s handle were each given souls, different bits of knowledge placed in each one by connecting to them, making sure that skill was applied in every other way it could be to spite the ones who denied it.

Once the blade was shaped and the hilt added, each crystal was placed over the tang, fitted together to create a grip that he held tight at its end, his true body sharpening it to a razor’s edge before applying every enchantment he wanted it to have as the complex system he worked with went down.

His material manipulation was placed to ensure that the blade itself would be strong despite the thinness of its edge and his crafting contributed to that same fact as well. His mind skills were bound to it for what extra power they’d give its handler, letting them think faster and with more minds than any typical mortal while unnatural inspiration went into it to affect their subconscious thoughts, there for the benefits such things could give combat as well and strengthened even more for the ill intent the blade was drenched in, buffing the holder’s attributes so long as it was properly wielded with the intent to kill.

Given the inspiration behind the blade, just how ingrained the sacrilege enchantments were would shock no one either but to a greater extent than any of that was the interplay of deep connection running down every inch of the knife itself.

Soul crystals had obviously been placed to give the wielder more mana if they needed it but the designs were far more insidious for anyone who faced it, with that skill being just as good for ripping a target’s mana from them as it was any blank soul while also carrying over the things he’d imprinted on them, certain ones holding every pain he’d been put through since coming to the world for the mental attack it would be for those it would stab into and more from there.

His personal system, the enchanting modifier and the magic modifiers had all been employed but his newest enchanting spell had found its way in as well, the factory enchantment being stripped down and minimized to the farthest extent he could in order to make something that would apply self-destructive spells from his magic into a target’s bones should the blade make contact with even more sacrilege mixed in as well, leaving the final part he squeezed in combining his magics together to materialize metal pins when activated, something to be left behind in whatever flesh the knife found itself in that would be powered by its own victim’s mana.

Every drop of anger and spite he’d built up for the gods over the years went into it and the second he was done, what shocked him wasn’t the fact that his eyes showed that he’d pulled it off, a new high legendary item in his hands, but that it held at all under the magical strain he’d created. Every single effect had a weight and with both a materialization and a factory spell on that single small item, he’d had to use every bit of skill he’d claimed for himself since coming to the world, with the notifications going off in his head being his reward.

<UNENDING CRAFTING LEVEL INCREASED>

<DEEP CONNECTION LEVEL INCREASED>

<UNNATURAL INSPIRATION LEVEL INCREASED>

<ILL INTENT LEVEL INCREASED>

Four new levels for his achievement, each of them greatly desired but he didn’t get the chance to reflect on what they meant for him. He’d completed the tower, beaten every challenge it had laid out for him which meant it was time to claim his reward, with a god appearing to give him exactly that.

Very interesting knife

He had 18 awakened skills in ch817, and this chapter brings him up to 23 (if there weren't any awakenings between, you know what Ben's like)

Baskaran

I remember them saying the gods could awaken skills without levels so Artisan’s Touch or False Ben getting awakened would be cool

Rad

TFCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Rain

Ya and he is on a technical level, the best enchanter in the world with his skills there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to get something to high legendary

Isiah Debarros

817 is last Ben status

Cole Armstrong

Yeah, and like he personally taught half of the people that are there with him how to enchant and that other type of enchantment and the fact that he has seven awakened skills that are ninth level

Isiah Debarros

Yeah, and he's a contender for seven skills one of which is a type of magic and he isn't by himself he chose to do this by himself he could've gotten the others to help him if he really wanted other magic to be involved

Isiah Debarros

Which chapter had profile last?

Luboš Hemala

I hear the godslayer 9001 is in development right now!

TheLostGolem

Except he can’t use any affinities magics which is what is primarily utilized by enchanters for their products, such as Falk with death and earth magic, without them his enchantments would be significantly less useful. If they wanted to target everyone equally they could have made the floor not allow the use of affinitied magic in the enchantments but they targeted it at Ben specifically

Aidan Coleman

I agree. Ben is over-reliant on connect. He should have already been practicing for situations without skill rings or people to connect with. At the very least, he should have already had a multitude of crafting ideas mentally prepared for such an event in case he finds himself in situation without such a generous time limit. I get Ben being upset, but I think even Mryiad would agree that the gods targeting Ben this way taught him a valuable lesson. Hopefully Ben learned something...

Cole Armstrong

Ah the godslayer 9000. Excellent knife

Voidsong

Yeah but Nare KNEW Ben had that woth him and never told him to 'not enter the tower with his rings' so I don't think that line'll pan out. 🤔

Andrew Nichols

Not just Ben. Anyone who uses connect like him…so a huge portion of myriads church

Silverias

So they built a level that would ACTUALLY challenge him, that doesn't imply a personal attack or insult, or any sort of slight. He is taking this too personally.

Carl Mason

But he cannot carry his knife with him. Unless he manages to drag them kicking and screaming back down with him, he needs them to descend first. Of course, he could just Actualize another one when he gets there.

Carl Mason

I was thinking he’d go with GodKiller to fit his titles and also because he’s a man of simple taste and anything more seems too edgy for him.

Rad

I'm guessing Nare sans a few kidneys as well as a bs excuse about someone cheesing the crafting tower with pre enchanted items that were worked on after

Corvusamous

Ya except this limitation was tailored specifically to Ben no one else was using connection to use skills outside of their soul before Ben came around.

Aidan Coleman

no he was disappointed because it gave bonuses like a level 0 awakened crafting inclination, but it couldn't be leveled like a real awakened crafting inclination

funktorial

Love this

Brudog2

Oooooooo I like that name! I was thinking he'd go for something like "The God's Demise" or something else but yours is waaaaay better

Andrew Nichols

Have I told you how much I hate your cliffhangers? Cause I do. Not as much as Ben hates the gods, but close. TFTC I'm excited to see what's said next

Andrew Nichols

Can't wait for Ben to craft a full God-Slaying set. Armor, accesories, a full Gundam... a flying anti-god miniature Death Star... he is honestly only limited by his level of spite.

Michigo

Also iirc artisans touch arrived already awakened, Ben even spent some time complaining how he would have easily awakened it if it wasn't already, so he's technically losing out?

Clara

I guess that was just meant as a figure of speech, but there is that one basement Ben isn't allowed to enter (the mage library one, with the super duper nono-knowledge).

Michigo

He should test for it anyways, plus my impression was more "can and do you use this skill for the relevant purpose (crafting)" rather than "is it exclusively a crafting skill". And I think it's like, not impossible that it would apply, given how it boosts various crafting relevant bonuses

Clara

I'm not sure they need to descent. Because Ben, Miriad and all of us here already know that he can trace divine energy back to a gods divine realm AND follow that trace to pay them a visit. That paired with the natural arrogance that no mortal can really harm a god, might spell DOOM for pesky gods enraging Ben in the future.

Michigo

My bet is that the last floor is “make something the same quality as the best thing you ever made, plus a limitation”, the tower is supposed to be challenging and Ben is taking this way too personally

Silverias

They can argue that they can’t tell him what will be in the towers in advance; they can argue that the towers are designed to test each individual and grow their skills, making them more powerful than simply adding the tower rewards to their current skills; they can argue that they made the changes due to future connect holding craftsmen. They can not argue that some gods want him to fail, nor that they do not want to pay him his worth, nor that they have sabotaged him in times passed, nor that he is the only one likely to impacted by this challenge before the third wave. This is how you get the god of sacrilegious murder, crafting, et cetera. I would be surprised if Ben stops at Oaun. If he was prepared to put the immortal contender in prison, time dilated no less, I can see Ben Pantheon Breaker reducing the population of the gods, especially if they try and move against him during, if not after his fight with Oaun. Previous gods were selected only in the basis of power, not morality, not fitness to lead, not judgement, or any other criteria Ben would value.

Jim Smith

"And thus Godsbane was birth from its first victim"

Bladehawk256

Like I know, he made it a god slaying weapon, but like considering how much of his other skills he put into this, it was completely possible for him to get something just as insane through his own skills without going through sacrilege, because of the you know six other contender level skills he had access to before he completed the floor. Like at this point they were just helping him with low hanging fruit.

Isiah Debarros

Man, the gods have really ruined Ben's opinion of them. Like I guarantee that they made this trial specifically for him as a way to strengthen him. Because he uses Connect as a crutch, if we're being honest. Like he had 7 skills that he was a contender for before this and he hadn't created a high legendary item with only his skills, which is kind of embarrassing

Isiah Debarros

I mean, they would have to descend willingly first and if they do all of that and then get in a fight with Ben that's on them

Isiah Debarros

I don't think that applies as a crafting skill he could probably get them to awaken artisans touch though

Isiah Debarros

Divine body to level 3

Isiah Debarros

I mean it seems like they just like him on principal also like as targeted as this trial feels he has so many high-level skills that I think it was just them trying to get him to progress with low hanging fruit like let's be honest because of connect, he allows himself to not get a lot of skills that he should probably get because of the fact that he can use connect to use those skills anyway. And

Isiah Debarros

I mean, realistically, the God killing weapon is useless against any of the gods of the world. I'm sure that most of them will have a problem with it based on principle, but considering the fact that the demon god is possessing one of his followers having weapons like that is probably necessary if they want to actually end this war

Isiah Debarros

Author is clearly setting Ben up with a god slaying weapon for when he inevitably clashes with the death god that invaded a while back. Killing him is probably what's going to push his sacrilege to the 3rd tier I'm guessing.

Joseph Lemongello

And also any jerk gods complaining about him ascending. Or simply being rude to Ben.

Chris Fey

Seems a bit more likely a creating god who doesn't like him tried pulling a fast one.

ReadingObsessed

*The Mad Craftsman's Divine Tap* -May the unworthy fall. Drained like kegs with an open tap.

ReadingObsessed

Falk was also a contender though. Regular awakened people definitely wouldn't manage. Even mid level awakened. Maybe some lvl7/8 awakened might. High requirements :)

Alex

I'm glad someone is tracking all this, other than Turnip.

Carl Mason

I mean Falk could make legendary items with only his skills and the 'old' enchantment system. I have a feeling that the crafter's tower isnt as random as all the others tho, that's why Ben has been given this specific challenge for the hardeat difficultly in general crafting.

juno

I know Ben took this challenge personally as an attack on his progression, but he really should have expected at least one level of the tower to be actually challenging. I would have expected he would choose to take this as less a personal attack, as it could have been, and more as a personal challenge to push him and his crafting abilities to heights not previously dreamt of. Hopefully this god, probably Nare, will reassure him of that fact. And then promptly break the last bit of Ben's good will by trying to confiscate his new god-torture-killer knife.

Carl Mason

This is probably Nare, so he might get some words out before the slaughter begins.

Carl Mason

I would love for him to awaken Soul Expansion, but that probably does not apply. I wonder what he chooses.

Luboš Hemala

Modifier compatibility. That's what he should awaken. Even more boosts from his wall-of-text of jobs and titles? He might just breeze through his remaining jobs even with the extra burdens

Clara

I just realized this doesn't count as a cursed weapon. So the bone crushing faith stealing murder knife is legal to sell

Corvusamous

TFTC!

CataFlan

Ah. The strongest motivator, spite. Some god is going to get their world rocked.

SacredSteel

Death god first

Isiah Debarros

Ya I think that one needs to be in the warriors tower

Isiah Debarros

Maybe transitioning mythril blood would decrease the cost to materialize is? I think the skill needs to already be used in creating to be eligible to level though

Corvusamous

And the sword to slay the demon god is born.

Eli Loeb

Ill Intent is Level 7*, the rest Level 9*.

Ekko

What levels are The skills he leveled now?

Or vidan peled

That we know of, they probably have some in the basement

Redc05

Makes sense. Though even if the challenges are only about one dicipline, they should still be the same level of difficulty. Smith for example, Smith a high legendary item. Then again, its probably easier for people that are not Ben. Towers hate him. Maybe they only have to Smith a low or middle legendary item

Alex

Taking the other doors for a more specific challenge. Also this last one seems tailored to Ben.

bioenthusiast

Nare seemed to have intended this, given the conversation about skills other than Ben's crafting skills the tower could affect; now he's a contender in connection, inspiration and crafting (and they won't raise a contender skill to the 3rd tier), I wonder what he's going to raise as his reward?

Baskaran

Tftc

Rex Martin

In Chapter 817, he was at lvl 8* for connection, inspiration and crafting - I don't know if he had any level ups since then

Baskaran

Those were mostly level 8 awakened skills so he is not in the third tier. Yet.

Micah B Graves

He should get them to level partial divine body

Isiah Debarros

Is it finally time to stab some gods? He's long past the point when it became necessary.

CherMi

Since he got the skill level he wanted already, I put even odds on him threatening the gods with his new dagger to awaken one of his skills to the third tier

Althion

So, he got the levels he came here for right? He's gonna have to ask for a different skill to level. I hope he asks to awaken one of his level-less skills

Clara

Tftc, brutal weapon. But if Ben could get a factory spell to make factory spells driven by unwilling mana, he'd have an exponentially growing curse. Good shit

Jacob Gondringer

Tftc! Ben made the first god killer weapon!

Sammot

How does anyone else pass the tower?

Alex

Btw he just became a Contender for three more skills...

Ekko

Rad

ShyviaAngel

Time to stab a god

TheCrazyDuck

Did- is that more Contender Skills or did Ben just double 3rd tier?

Thomas Keller

🎵Oh boy, someone's getting 🎶stabbed!🎵

Brandon Yarberry

Tftc I knew the second Ben got pissed he would be making a Godslaying Weapon. What an evil creation...

Ekko

Ree, I'm first
