<Alright, you’re done, tell me exactly what happened. This got a lot of eyes and some strong reactions up here.>

Why did so many gods tune in to watch a bit of surgery?

<Because my insane apostle rejecting having his heart repaired in the middle of a tower to instead experiment on himself is the sort of thing a lot of gods were always going to hear about, with just as many wanting to know what the ultimate plan was. So?>

…Okay, I guess I was never going to be able to keep the results to myself since I’m going to try and see Verbum soon and I’ll probably see Yuzu again before long too but try to be cool about this.

<You’re priming me to panic.>

Mostly it’s probably going to just be some extra work for you from the regular suspects up there who seem to hate every little thing I do. I got levels to my vitality enhancement and my vitality regeneration enhancement-

<When did you get those in the first place?>

Shortly after my heart was destroyed but more importantly, two new skills. One called Mythril blood which you have to admit sounds cool as hell. No level to it but I’m going to go try to ask Verbum about it tomorrow to see the effects.

<And as interesting as you claiming yet another new skill for yourself is, it isn’t out of the ordinary by this point and there’s nothing inherently bad about the name which can only make me wonder what the other skill you got is.>

…Integrated divine body, which is along the lines of what I was hoping to get out of doing this, even if I didn’t know exactly how it would turn out. Actually, it went better than I really expected considering that with my first organ transplant, the change was originally listed as a partial body skill and had to transition to its current form. Looks like I got to skip that step.

<...>

Myriad?

<I cannot begin to guess how everyone up here is going to react to hearing that.> His god told him in what sounded like deep exasperation. <what does that even mean for you?>

Not sure, we can discuss it when I get up there later but for now I’ve gotta handle things down here so good luck.

Focusing back on the people around him and ignoring his god still grumbling in the back of his head, Ben got up and pulled the soul crystal from the dying homunculus while the rest stared at him as he gave them a big smile.

“Well, that worked out great! Thanks guys, I owe you all one.”

“Okay, but like, do we get an explanation about any of that now?” Amy asked him, with the rest making it clear they wanted one as well and leaving him to shrug. It sounded like the gods were already going to find out what happened from Myriad, no reason to leave his friends in the dark anymore just because some might still be listening.

“Alright, so this thing happens to be a soul crystal,” He explained as he showed it off, moving to put it back in his fruit tree. “Housing the soul of one of the forbidden gods specifically, it’s normally a key ingredient in my divine potions but there’s no reason I couldn’t force it to inhabit other things and given that a clone of me would be a perfect donor match for getting my heart replaced, I just wanted to see if there’d be any extra little bonuses from doing this sort of thing.”

“And were there?” Thera asked him, having guessed what he’d been going to do once they got to the greenhouse but had no way of knowing the outcome. There was no obvious change in Ben but his mood gave enough away. He’d gotten results.

“A couple levels and a couple new skills,” He told her happily. “You’re looking at someone with mythril blood and integrated divine body.”

“...What does that mean for you?” Vasta asked, breaking the silence as the rest there asked themselves that same question.

“Probably only good things, I’ll worry about figuring out the details of it later. For now though, I have a heart again and we’ve beaten one tower. Jake, Amy, seeing as how you’re both trying to awaken to the third tier and seeing as how I’m a great friend to have, come with me for the next one in a week so we can snag you guys some blessings and maybe even a level.”

“Two weeks,” Thera told them before turning to her boyfriend. “Ben, you just had heart surgery and you’ve modified your soul. You will be taking time to make sure you’re properly recovered from both.”

“...Yeah, okay.”

“You’re taking at least a couple days off of work too.”

“Mmh, fine,” He gave in. He knew she was right but the loss of time was going to hurt, even if properly recovering was important. He didn’t know how overfilling his soul might affect him when he’d just modified his own and even though he had nothing but faith in both Thera and Lux’s ability to heal him, there was no denying that he hadn’t made a normal choice when having his heart replaced. There could be waiting consequences he couldn’t yet see. “I was going to go bother Verbum tomorrow anyway to ask about a few of the changes in my status so I’ll take things a little easier. For now though, let’s get the rest of these guys home. Since we’re done with the tower, we need to grab our kid.”

---

It was still early enough in the day that even if some people in town were up and about, he’d needed to pound on Sachel’s door to get her to open, with the oracle along with a very tired-looking Ralia answering.

“Uh, Ben? Thera?” The half-dryad yawned out. “You guys are back already?”

“Benefits of having personal gates, we just need to use yours to grab Mora.”

“Okay, yeah come on in.”

It was even earlier in the dryad village but most of the residents there got up with the sun, the gate leading to Fontesh’s home letting them make way to the kitchen where the sounds of movement already abounded, the three of them already at the table while two of them ate.

“We survived again,” Ben called out, catching their attention and getting rewarded with the sight of Mora perking up, at least until the young soul spirit viewed him on a deeper level. The only thing that broke the child’s confused look was Thera making way to give him a tight hug, speaking as she did.

“We promised we’d be back for you after all, did you have a good time here?”

“Um, yeah, I did but what happened to Ben?”

“A lot of things,” He answered unhelpfully while leaving room for Delair to speak up.

“Does this mean we can get back to work today?”

“It doesn’t, sorry,” Thera answered for him, squashing the bit of hope Delair was feeling. “Not tomorrow either. Ben was a little hurt in a few different ways so he needs to take it easy first. After that, so long as we don’t see any side-effects he can get back to training you.”

“He has a different heart than he left with though?” Mora muttered, getting a laugh from Ben.

“Yeah, but these things happen.”

“And why’s your soul so different?”

“Something came up and I had to merge a new one into it.”

Mora stared at him for a moment before reacting. “Doesn’t that hurt?”

“Yeah but what can you do, right?”

The young spirit’s gaze turned instead to Thera who was left pinching her brow. “Mora, sweetheart? Do me a favour and try not to pay too much attention to things Ben puts himself through, it’ll be bad for your development. You too, Delair.”

While one seemed to take Thera’s warning to heart, the other didn’t seem to be listening at all, her eyes already gleaming at what she heard.

“Is your new heart better than your old one?” Delair asked in excitement, not bothering to think too deeply about the implications of such a thing and instead focusing on the results while Ben grinned in response.

“Got me new levels and skills so I’d say it was.”

“Cool!”

“Ahem, but since Ben needs to relax a bit today, we just came to get Mora,” Thera cut in. “We’ll get out of your guys’ hair for now. Thanks again for looking after him Fontesh, will you be fine to do it again in a couple weeks?”

“Of course, he was a pleasure.”

“Wait,” Delair stopped them before anyone could move. “I didn’t even get to show him the village yesterday, you guys came back so quick. If you’re relaxing then you should stay a while!”

Both Ben and Thera looked at each other before turning to their charge.

“Mora, would you like to stay a bit longer to see a bit more of the village?” Thera asked him.

“Will you both stay too?”

“We will.”

“...If you don’t mind.”

Before either of them could say anything, Delair already had the boy’s arm and was pulling him out the door. “Great! There’s so much I wanna show you still, come on!”

The three adults left alone in the room, Fontesh gave them a weary smile. “I hope my daughter isn’t being too much of a handful for you.”

“Oh no, she’s fine, don’t you worry about it. Making good progress too. She told you she got some levels the other day?”

“And a new one yesterday,” Fontesh laughed, instantly drawing both Ben and Thera’s attention with the offhand comment.

“Yesterday?”

“Her plant magic,” The girl’s mother smiled. “It seems the gods might have been smiling on us, it sounded like a lot of people got a few, myself included.”

A silent look passed between Ben and Thera as they said it. Not the work of a god but neither doubted that a small, godlike being might have played a part in making it happen with the question of why he was still keeping it a secret on both their minds.

Tyftc!!!

Neuos.t

She doesn't need to reach lvl 9. Ben can awaken people at lvl 8. Who knows, he's stronger now, maybe he can awaken her at lvl 7

Alex

TFTC

CataFlan

This is just twisted enough I can see Ben doing it

Jaiden Dunton

You, you’re a good influence on Turnip! Fertilizer! … wait

Meredith

Turniiiiip what if Ben got an organ transplant (like a lung) from the Outsider Child Girl? Child of Slothothothothothtothtoth? He has the demonic and divine body stuff, and the demonic one def helped him get the divine one. But that girl. Her body is partially Outsider, no? She can shapeshift without being a shifter, even. Could be cool, and she would totes go for it if he agreed to let her eat the lung he removes or bottles some blood lol. Thera is strong enough to regrow her lung and keep them both alive.

Emily Gurnavage

I mean their whole race uses their natural soul magic in to constantly evolve their bodies that's like specifically why they're so adaptable and can change in like 3 generations since Been doesn't have those affinities it was literally stated by the viv that it uses his non-attribute mana instead which, in my opinion inherently makes it different from demons. But beyond that if the skill evolves and incorporate all of the other body skills he has it's gonna be so widely different from what Demons are that it would be surprising if it still had the were demon in the skill specially considering demons are like known for their soul magic even if they're really good at surviving it's because they use their natural soul magic/life, and death magic to heal themselves. Ben's body adapts because of the transplant, but it's super inefficient in comparison to if he had the affinities and is going to have other traits from his constitution and other skills

Isiah Debarros

Ben, you’re being a terrible role model for children 😅

Lola

I don't think the integrated demon body skill ever used those affinities. The demon god was a god of souls AND survival before it started eating it's accended kin. The demon race as a whole doesn't just have soul magic going for it, their bodies are incredibly adaptable and more than that a significant upgrade to human biology. The integrated demon body skill was his body integrating more with the demon organs to either create a better whole, or a middle ground between the two probably the second.

meu 32

I just went to go look at his skills and he has like 10 body skills at this point even if some of them aren't at the 9th level when he awakened crafting some of those skills were only at the zeroth level so it doesn't really matter

Isiah Debarros

If when he awakens his body skills all of them get merged I can't it turning into something as simple as **** demon body. Also I feel like calling his skill, integrated demon body doesn't even fit anymore, considering the fact that it doesn't use death life or lesser soul magic to improve itself. And with the fact that like his potential to awaken body skill with encompass everything that all of his other body related skills encompass, it's gonna have things having to do with his magic resistances his blood, whatever integrated divine body does. It turned into like ultimate defensive body wouldn't be surprising

Isiah Debarros

Tftc

Lyncher98

Ya I think that that they are both going to fuse I bet with all of his other body skills Th at they could stay the same

Isiah Debarros

This was about his little apprentice. And last time i checked she was neither a God nor a great Soul Spirit.

Michigo

That's not the worst idea I've wanted him to have a reason to go the the other towers for a while now

Isiah Debarros

I think he was talking about integrated divine body

Isiah Debarros

Mora is currently keeping his system questioning a secret from Ben, Myriad keeping what "weights of souls" means a secret, many nations are keeping their forbidden knowledge a secret. All of this will fail the test of Ben

Corvusamous

Or it fuses with all the other random body skills, and becomes either Unnatural Body or perhaps Nephelim Body or something like that

Hydrabogen

Oh they don't do it intentionally. It just sort of happens when a great spirit dies and a lot of normal spirits get sucked in to make one great spirit

Corvusamous

I don't think it's been mentioned if the towers will let you level a level less skill. They probably don't. It would have to transition to a leveled skill first

Corvusamous

I love Delair, she is invoking good things in Ben. He is not angry when he teaches her

Alex V

What I'm referring to more is if a group of normal spirits can come together to make a great spirit why can't you have multiple groups of spirits come together to create multiple great spirits and then have those great spirits fuse together such as for example 10 groups of Earth spirits join together to create 10 new great Earth spirits and then those 10 greater spirits fuse together to create a grand spirit it's not like their population is reducing anymore

Ashlynn & William Elmore

So both skills combine to provide him with the divine demon or demon god body ? Then he will stand a real chance of fighting Oaun.

VoidAutarch

Even if he can't figure out how to level it, if he completes four more affinity towers he can push it to level 8 with the rewards and then complete the Warrior's Tower trial to awaken it. It's a body skill so it should fall within the realm of a "warrior's skill" to allow an awakening.

Collateral_ink

Verbun is the only one that gets spooked more by Bens insanity than Miriad. But i believe he has already given up on resisting Bens antics. Given up as in he embraced the darkness we call Ben. xD

Michigo

Is there even a way to keep anything secret from Ben? Nope. But Ben wouldn't be the voice of reason anyways. xD

Michigo

Ben should frame that Tony Stark style. "Proof Ben Heph has a heart"

Corvusamous

Still better sounding than Integrated Demon Body.

Michigo

Unless they can make more, there want always a great soul spirit after all. I see your point though Isiah that soul magic existsed and that's how a new spirit was made. Its farfetched to think that the system designed to allow cross-species breeding would allow for different breeding pairs within a species. Like in mushrooms they can have dozens of sexes because any two sexes that aren't the same can reproduce but the system probably wouldn't make homosexual partners produce children. If it did then yeah Ashlynn & William Elmore have a great point and it might be possible. Something like the great spirit and a bunch of normal spirits of their type try to redo the great spirit's creation

Corvusamous

Ben made a mana detector to research the summoning spell; a light that glows. The problem for the Grey's is that they can observe the entire galaxy so wouldn't be able to detect mana away from Ben's inventions. That makes me wonder how much of the summoning spells the Grey's have looked at? If they have any tests that could test the logic or hypotheses of Ben's researchers that would be fantastic for understanding the summoning spell or Galwax's unknown spell

Corvusamous

Why would he? They barely spare him a couple hours once a month, per the deal made way back then. Both Ben and the world had changed drastically since, but the Greys showed no inclination to help him further or request anything from him. Frankly, any time he spends on them would be a waste before the wave, except maybe on bringing them to this world so they could help too. They obviously wouldn't want to come though.

CherMi

Awaken Delair once she reaches plant magic level 9 Also I wonder what Ben will do during his days off, definitely visiting Verbum, then after the days off are done complete beneficiary and 2 more jobs

Thomas Issa

How will having a second soul effect his overfill

Charles Hughes

To be fair Integrated Divine Body sound pretty sacrilegious

Luboš Hemala

Cuz their is only one great spirit for each element

Isiah Debarros

Delair is a mini Ben with all the horrific implications that comes with it. Mora would need to be the voice of reason at some point.

SacredSteel

I was just thinking, and I had an idea to help the Greys with their research. They can't detect mana still, but they can detect everything else, so can't Ben make a mana detector that uses lights to display what it's seeing? Then they could study mana!

Rain

First. I love mora. So if a group of Spirits join together a great spirit is made. So why not have a few great spirits with thera helping them reproduce the great spirits can join up to be a grand spirit with like a million mana

Ashlynn & William Elmore

Delair and Mora are so wonderful. Mora’s confusion on his new heart. Delair’s excitement for levels. I almost expected Ben to give Delair his Mythril heart as a souvenir

darkmuch

I mean he has the death god to kill. I can't see some of them throwing him to the hells having no consequences especially considering how much they are using him

Isiah Debarros

Also TFTC

Andrew Nichols

Seriously loving Mora, need more development but take it slow. Might be the balancing act for Ben not to do as much crazy shit. Delair INSTANTLY wanted to know the perks. If they're not careful, she might try modding herself as well in secret

Andrew Nichols

Also, lux had nothing to say about hearing Ben say "they're going to grab their kid"

Isiah Debarros

TFCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC Mora best kiddo

Rain

Seems a few gods are finally gonna yeet him into hell, cant wait for him to come back and hopefully slay a few

Laurent Jerry

Even though them taking a break makes sense. It is a little bit irritating. That he is going to slow down even more when it comes to finishing his jobs

Isiah Debarros

The kids reactions to Ben getting a new heart are adorable, and also slightly concerning with Delair. Delair is definitely a true disciple of Ben.

TheCrazyDuck

Tftc. Always happy to see Ben become more monstrous
