Added 2024-12-27 21:31:52 +0000 UTCTo his two students’ misfortune, Ben’s impatience only grew the next day as their circlets were modified, not only splitting their thoughts like they’d been originally designed to but now speeding up their thoughts as well, letting them cast all forms of magic they were training in even faster to squeeze even more out of the day.
Of course, his favouritism was still clear in how he did it, Thera’s time only doubling while Jake’s quadrupled, with the other man acting like his day had grown far longer than a mere four times, giving the impression that he’d instead been given a death sentence.
A reaction Ben happily ignored, keeping his eye on the prize instead and on that day getting his first result, even if it wasn’t the one he really needed.
“I got my level!” Thera cheered, ripping the circlet from her head the second she had it in pure zeal. “Sorry Jake, looks like you’re on your own now!”
The comment got her a look of pure betrayal that she didn’t so much as glance at, even as Ben gave his own reaction, gently clearing his throat in a way that brought her back to reality.
“So then, what did you think of enchanting and bestowing?” He asked her.
“Honestly, fine but not really my thing. Still, it’s nice to see that I’ve gone from destroying any enchantment I touch to being able to make them and I’ll admit that finishing something up could be a little satisfying but I don’t think you’ll be seeing me doing it in my spare time.”
“Ha, well just saying, by virtue of the fact that you’ve got your awakened magic and you’ve been taught my personal enchanting system, you can now probably count yourself among the best enchanters on the planet. Something to consider if you ever want to retire from adventuring and or show off somewhere.”
“Ben, look at me, there’s already plenty I can show off if I want to.”
“Ugh, what’s your secret Thera?” Jake cut in, talking fast because of the effect he was under and looking desperate. “How do I get this stupid level? I just want to be free!”
“Sorry but I’m not sure what to tell you, I think I was probably just pretty close,” She shrugged. “Every affinitied spell I used is enhanced with my non-affinitied magic so it’s always getting practice, but with that done-”
“Hold that thought,” Ben told her before she could go and run off. “You remember what I said when you first joined for this?”
“...No.”
“I mentioned that I might be able to force you up a level and while that’s still technically true, it’s the sort of thing that’s going to be a lot more likely to succeed the more experience you have before attempting it.”
“You don't mean…”
“It’s your choice,” He shrugged. “You’ve got one level and as long as we beat the tower then you’ll get another, but if you want one more as well then you know what I’d suggest. Still, if you’re not interested then it’s all good, I know you have your work and all.”
“...”
The comment left her weighing two things she really didn’t want to do. As much as she loved him, training under Ben was dreadful, at least when it was under the goal of getting her to level up as fast as possible, but despite that, it really did manage to be a decent break from the endless healing she needed to help with and from there it moved to comparing skills.
She was doing her best to try to awaken her life magic to the third tier and every bit of practice she got on that front would be experience towards that goal but even if she was doing her best for it, she couldn’t deny she still thought it was basically an impossible hope for such a short term. Leveling her non-affinitied magic once more though, especially when Ben felt he had a way to help her get an extra level? That felt distinctly possible.
The decision made, with a look of defeat on her face she put the circlet back on, feeling its effects alter her mental structure and prepared to get back to work, even while Ben did his best to reassure her.
“It’s only until Jake gets his level. Who knows, he might even be done by today.”
“That feels optimistic,” He chimed in.
“It shouldn’t be, you’ve got ten tower blessings by this point and a soul mage lowering your leveling thresholds and just as importantly, you’re training under me. You’re officially one of the better enchanters on the planet for learning from me as well I’ll have you know. Make me proud.”
“That sounds hard, ganna pass.”
“It literally could be easier. Delair and Mora are both making me proud because they’re both doing their best.”
The two had been exceptionally well-behaved under the guidance of his clones, learning the finer details of crafting from him to the best of their abilities. Even then, while he listened to Jake complain, the two were working together at the forge, with Mora taking a turn at trying to make a pot while Delair practiced some of the basic enchanting spells on it once he was done, with simple projects like that having made up what they’d been doing ever since Ben had taken up trying to level the other two.
Still, even if this might take another few days I’ll make this work. After all, even if it takes a little while longer, Jake should be able to get this before long and if he’s not confident at it, well, that just means I need to increase how much his mind is splitting and the speed he’s thinking at. And if that’s still not enough… Eh, I can go a few days without sleep and his stamina should be…
“Hey Jake, how high is your stamina?”
“I’m afraid to answer that.”
“Just tell me.”
“...Around five thousand, why?”
Yeah, that tracks, he came with a high level of it and not only got a god potion and my growth potions, but he’s also been under Yuzu’s spells pretty much since he’d arrived. Hell, when I think about it that way, he really should be significantly higher in it, but…
But it was enough that it really meant he could work Jake a bit harder without any real issue, at least as long as he gave him the occasional break and that fact was there to only ruin Jake’s day as Ben spoke up the instant his thoughts were in order.
“Alright, seeing as how you aren’t enjoying this, that just means we need to get you your level as fast as possible and there’s an easy way to speed that up. We’re just going to both give up sleeping until you get it so until then you’re with me. Let’s both do our best here.”
He ignored as Jake’s face fell, instead focusing his thoughts on teaching and figuring out any other way he might make the task even faster.

@Isiah Debarros don't make me feel sympathy for "lazy, harem, pretty boy, tied for 2nd strongest human out the gate" Jake. He's had it rough and has been given plenty of help to make up for it

2024-12-29 16:56:31 +0000 UTCThey can't use magic in there. Neither Thera nor Jake have perfect recall, only remembering as much as they do because of Ben's knowledge skill being integrated in them. They are probably getting more out of it with the practice rather than 10x more lectures. Plus Ben gets dodgy about people knowing about his mythic artifact

2024-12-29 16:52:39 +0000 UTCWhen is Ben going to actually use the book he got from the dead gods trial? I know he experimented a little, but that was before he got captured. I think it would be a lot easier to level up these other people if he used it.

2024-12-29 12:32:01 +0000 UTCI mean considering that Ben only helped him with jobs like one time and he has no 2nd tier jobs left and the fact that he and his group is like constantly fighting demons he just likes complaining about learning cuz doing that shit for most of the hours of the day is crazy hell no matter what he is still doing the training which even with the benefits is literally torture he can't even space out because the circlet make you focus a long with giving you more minds to think with which based on the reaction of literally everybody who has ever put them on is the most unpleasant thing ever. Like ya he got lucky with his affinity's but the towers are still dangerous and we know that his teachers only helped for like 3 of them

2024-12-29 04:41:00 +0000 UTC@bioenthusiast 100% agree, he got to contender by getting tower blessings, not one level was due to his own effort. Tbh when the demon invasion arc started I fully though he would die cause he is treated like a military asset but he is truly incompetent so he could be like a cautionary tale to the other summoned.

2024-12-29 01:06:45 +0000 UTCOh yeah I didn’t even mention getting carried to contender status by THE archmage, THE nonaffinaty mage, and a soul mage. Dude is going to be a god of magic only knowing how to use like six spells. He has non-affinity magic too, so he would be a better magic god than helori. Guess she should have tried harder.

2024-12-28 09:29:24 +0000 UTCI really hope Jake never makes it to tier 3. No matter how anyone feels about his character or luck, he'd be one useless god. There's enough of those already.

2024-12-28 08:04:09 +0000 UTC99% of the people on the planet would saw their arm off with a rusty pair of scissors just to get one of the benefits that jake has been glazed with, he may not have been brought here willingly; but it was defiantly his choice to fight/train in exchange for absurd levels of wealth and power. But he acts like a shut-ins impression of a dude-bro, putting in the bare minimum while every opportunity is handed to him. Heck its there in his personal life too, the literal only reason his wife picked him is because his soul is pretty, yuzu even says earlier in the story that he never does anything romantic without prompting so its defiantly not his personality (not even gonna talk about the whole amy thing). The only conservable way of his entire personage existing is if somehow an overgod of luck or something accidentally gave all of bens luck to jake when they were brought to the world and did not realize/correct it until a few months in. Even his inclusion into the story is not due to anything on his part, if it was not for yuzu he would not have a purpose in the story besides getting his soul milked for void stone. I don't like harems, but even in that jake gets beat by pato who in the few chapters we see acts more like a real person with real relationships. I feel like carly, will, and steph would have been far better human characters to show up more. sorry for the rant, but the jakes sheer ineptness is annoying. think of it as credit to the author for making a story so engaging.

2024-12-28 03:36:50 +0000 UTCI don't really see how he would be able to force that with out myriad at least wanting to try also the gods personalities are distinct enough and strong enough that he would probably be a completely different being after just one
Isiah Debarros
2024-12-28 03:34:52 +0000 UTCI mean to be fair that was a non-awakened skill. Comparing that to a awakened magic in difficulty to level is disingenuous also Ben's training is psychotic

2024-12-28 03:32:03 +0000 UTCLol or having it explained to the kids in front of Jake that Jake is lazy and Ben is just super hard working and also a genius who cheats the system.
Kimberly
2024-12-27 23:48:10 +0000 UTCLol I think the whole thing is quite funny, but what would make it even better is to have both Delair and Mora essentially berate him, but without meaning to. Like advising how quickly Delair got her skills/levels and Mora talking about how hard he sees Ben or compares the number of jobs and titles Ben has vs Jake and asks Jake why he doesn't have more like Ben.
Kimberly
2024-12-27 23:47:16 +0000 UTCHonestly Jake's character is a bit grating when you have so many chapters with him present, I never thought about his character that much but now I'm starting to actively dislike it. I remember when Ben was trying to learn the Dancing skill and it was inferred that levelling skills isnt just based on talent and effort but also intent. Jake has the OP cheat skills of a mid isekai novel MC but is never going to use them to their full extent cause he just doesnt want to put in the effort so the system doesnt reward him as much cause he only does the bare minimum, even now Ben is doing 99% of the work for him and he still complains about how hard it is. It's giving rich kid that paid his way through a college degree and is mediocre at their high end job. Really hoping for that level to finally come so we can move on and go to the tower arc. Tftc

2024-12-27 22:05:31 +0000 UTCOh, I don’t think he would be strong enough to fight Oaun, But he would be significantly stronger

2024-12-27 22:02:37 +0000 UTCYoo thats a pretty cool thought that I hadn't considered before. Could kinda see it happening maybe, but idk that itd actually help. From what we have heard, the Gods would need to agree to something like that just like the followers need to. I don't think Ben could force them into it. From an unwilling beings perspective, I feel like that would be viewed as a fate even worse than true death. Strength wise - Myriad and other Gods have mentioned that even every God combined they aren't as powerful as even the weaker Gods were at their peak, let alone the bigger ones like Analia. And Oaun is stronger than the strongest at their peak ever were by a long shot.

2024-12-27 21:59:32 +0000 UTCYep. Never happen. No foreshadowing, nope!

2024-12-27 21:59:06 +0000 UTCFor myriad's sake I hope that's how that works. Last time it was explained mortals don't change Myriad's personality at all but Ben, let alone a god, would change him

2024-12-27 21:44:19 +0000 UTCI’ve been rereading the whole story and something occurred to me. Myriad has the ability to let other gods merge into him. If Ben ever really got upset at a god and lost his temper he could just kill them by showing up in their domain, probably. Or he might be able to force them to merge into Myriad to make his god stronger. Hell, having all of the other gods merge into Myriad so that they only have one god soaking up all the faith on the planet would be ideal. Obviously they would never agree to it but… it’s an option.
