<Everyone’s been gathered for a while now, are you coming or not?>

Yeah, I guess this is as good a time as any to end this part of the day.

It had long grown dark and Sachel had already stopped by to walk Delair home but with his god’s prompting he finally released Jake from the prison that was his mind, the other man collapsing to the ground after being given back control of his body.

“Oh god, why does everything ache so much?” He asked as he laid there, showing no inclination to open his eyes until Amy answered.

“Ben’s been exercising you through all of this, which, well, seeing as it’s been an entire day he’s been having you run was bound to-”

She was cut off midway through. Welling what little strength he had, Jake jumped up, grabbing both her and Yuzu in his arms.

“Girls! Oh god, I’ve missed you both so much! I love you, please never let me go through that again!”

“...Ben, didn’t you tell us he was going to be fine?” Amy asked him while patting her boyfriend’s back, looking at the other through narrowed eyes while Ben shrugged in return.

“He is fine, just look at him. I mean, yeah, he missed you guys but I’d like to point out I tried to get him to say goodbye at the very beginning and there’s been no mental damage. Trust me, I’ve got a building full of people in stasis who I’m trying to figure out how to help after they’ve been prisoners for millennia, all Jake is feeling is a bit of withdrawal from not having the two of you.”

“Man, I’m pretty sure I just spent years in your head!” Jake yelled back. “How do you know I haven’t gone insane?”

“Because I live every day like that thousands of times over thanks to how I think. You’re my friend and I’m not a monster, if there was anything to be worried about then I would have let you go.”

“Ben, you have ‘monster’ as two of your titles,” Yuzu pointed out, still in Jack’s grip while Ben waved the comment away.

“I think we’ve already spoken about bringing up my status but more importantly, that’s entirely irrelevant. Now, before we go to finish our last task of the day, let’s see how well you can apply some of those lessons. Jake, make me a ball of copper.”

Ben already knew that everything he’d taught had been absorbed, he could feel it in the other’s mind, permanently fixed there thanks to the effects of the knowledge skill that had been applied to him, all that mattered was if he could use the information and Jake didn’t disappoint as he spent his mana to materialize a small ball of copper at his request and continued on with the other requests that followed.

From lead to carbon to ice to a glass jar filled with oil, Ben had made sure to include the chemistry of the world among his lessons and Jake was using all of the information to materialize his mana, giving shape to the forms he now knew in his thoughts. Still not at the level of skill Ben himself could but certainly to a point where he likely had both Uliel and Vasta beat, leaving Amy to re-evaluate the process that had led to that outcome.

“Okay, never mind, I’m convinced. Whatever you did was worth it.”

“Amy, please! Who’s side are you on?”

“Considering it looks like he turned you into one of the best materializers on the planet in less than a single day, Ben’s. Do you really not appreciate what an accomplishment that is for you?”

“Except I’m going to be dreaming about those lessons for the rest of my life!”

“I’m ninety percent sure you won’t,” Ben chimed in. “But if you do then trust me, there’s plenty worse you could be dreaming about. It’s why I’ve given up on actually sleeping.”

“...Ben, you seriously need to talk to a therapist or something,” Amy said, finding that comment more concerning than Jake’s overreaction. She could tell from just a few minutes of talking with him that her boyfriend really was fine but too often when Ben opened his mouth, some sort of deep-rooted trauma seemed to slip out.

Trauma which he for his part just shrugged away. “Hey, not actually sleeping gives me time for other things so it’s really a win-win. Anyway though, seeing as how I haven’t actually gone and destroyed any minds today, is everyone ready?”

“Oh god man, ready for what?” Jake asked him. “Please tell me you don’t have more for me after this.”

“I mean, you are still with me until I manage to squeeze that level out of you but don’t worry, it will be nothing like today. I finished my job so I need to take some new ones with Amy and Yuzu and whoever else the gods want me helping this round. Safe to assume you still haven’t gotten any new options?”

“Nothing at the second tier.”

“Alright, well if you do in the future make sure you let someone know so you can benefit from whatever new bit of help I can manage but until then, let’s get this over with.”

He led them all back to the magic towers’ guild where a crowd had already formed, with the guild master waiting for him.

“Just this way apostle Ben, over here is your first party. And are the two women the ones who will be joining later down the line?”

“Wherever the gods saw fit to put them, yeah.”

“Alright, right this way then, I’ll show you both to your positions for this.”

Separated from there, Ben walked over to the group he’d be starting with first, ignoring the looks of awe and reverence he was getting that stemmed from what they’d been told about him and what rumours had spread after his first round of jobs with that guild, instead cutting to the chase by asking them to invite him into their party before touching his crystal to look over his options.

AVAILABLE JOBS

No new ones then.

A part of him had been hoping for some more options, be they connect or crafting or enchanting jobs. While those master paths had all already given him plenty to choose from after he’d completed them, there was always the chance he’d gain some more within those fields later as he did things but as it stood it seemed he had no luck on that front, meaning he was going to have to branch out a bit, with the only question being what three to take that time.

There were plenty he was curious about enough that the chance to take them was in itself nice to have, not having many other options that he would consider being relevant enough to his goals to focus on, but if his quest was for power then there was one choice that still stood out above the rest.

Outsider. A job named for beings beyond the veil of reality itself, creatures that lived between worlds and brought their own rules into whatever universe they could make their way into. Among all he had left, he still considered it to be the best potential option among everything he still had to be a third-tier job. When the main goal was to get what growth he could, it was an obvious choice.

But one he didn’t take. Not then at least. He trusted his gut that it would be powerful but even if it ended up as only a second-tier job, there were risks to it he simply didn’t want to face so soon. It still hadn’t been long since the system had briefly broken his mind when taking a job had helped awaken his alien thought structure and the idea of taking outsider couldn’t help but make him fear something worse. He had his witness blessing which he still didn’t completely understand and he could still feel the chaos he’d seen when reality had cracked scratching at the walls of his thoughts at all times. Just because thinking about it didn’t leave him vomiting anymore didn’t mean it wasn’t still there.

And maybe taking that job would help him with that. Maybe it would give him some bit of relief that was currently missing from his life but it could just as easily make it worse.

But it’s one I’m going to have to take eventually, just… Not now.

After all, even if he believed it would be a powerful job there was no actual proof. Why not take a few others first and get what strength from them he could, especially when he had so many interesting ones to choose from?

And since I’m not taking outsider and growth is the name of the game right now, let’s make this easy. I’ll take inclination master.

He had a clear hope as he named that one, that it would give him skills along the lines of crafting or enchanting inclination considering his natural talent in them and how much he practiced, and if he really dared to dream, maybe even something akin to connect or sacrilege inclination to bring the goal of awakening those skills just a little closer, but that wasn’t what he got as the notifications rang out in his mind.

“...You’re fucking kidding me.”

“Um, apostle?” One of the party asked as he spoke, getting waved away for their efforts.

“Ignore me, just got a kind of bad pull for the first one.”

But come on, defense inclination of all things? Seriously?

Sure, by that point he had quite a few defensive skills but none of them were even awakened. The fact that the system had seen fit to give him a talent in them of all things felt like a slap in the face compared to what he’d been hoping for, and that wasn’t even considering that he’d get no additional attribute bonuses from that job, one of the main thing he wanted by taking so many of them. It was his first time ending up empty on that front which felt like a poor sign as far as taking his unknown jobs went, even if he forced himself to acknowledge it wasn’t all bad.

The fact that I’m getting massive bonuses instead of major ones to all of my inclination skills is huge and give than soul inclination likely gives bonuses to connect, my soul skills, and my mind skills, and evil inclination probably gives bonuses to my sacrilege, being able to grow both so much more easily is an objectively good thing. Just gotta look at the positives here and take a nice, calming breath before I move on to the next one.

He started materializing souls and went through adventure groups from there until he got the notification informing him he was done with that job, telling himself he’d leave it behind him and he went to claim his next one.

With inclination master not yielding any advanced variants when he touched his crystal, showing him it was in the same sterile category as both master adventure and master of destiny, not that he considered that to be a particularly bad thing. As handy as more massive bonuses on his inclination skills could potentially be, they weren’t what he was looking for, especially when they didn’t give him any attribute bonuses to go with them.

Which meant deciding on his second choice of the night, looking over options to make his pick as he questioned how to grow. It was obvious to pick something that sounded like it could be useful at least, entrée sure wasn’t making the cut, but if he had nothing to grow any of his core skills with then maybe the system giving him defense enhancement was on the right track, he should aim to grow some of his secondary ones.

After all, he really would have been thrilled to awaken any of his defensive skills if he got the chance, his few combat ones too. They may not have been the goal but the benefits that would come if they awakened along the way would have been huge, so with that in mind, he picked a job with a name that sounded like it just might fit.

Give me slayer.

…Myriad, are you around? I have questions.

…Of course you’re not.

“Hey, just out of curiosity, I don’t suppose any of you have ever heard of a job granting titles before, have you?”

The others in the party looked among themselves in confusion which was enough of an answer and was already what he’d expected anyway. In all of his reading, he’d become aware of thousands of known jobs and not once had he ever read anything about a person getting a title from taking one, leaving it as a question he was going to need to bother the gods about later as he instead focused on finishing it, letting him move from that party to the next where Amy was waiting and then on from there as she took a new job herself and moved through the rest of the group, letting her work through another by the time he arrived at the last where Yuzu waited.

“Ben, you’re really giving a bit of an ominous energy here,” She said, sensing something in his mood while he just groaned.

“I just have strange, complicated feelings about my last two jobs but it’s fine. I’m pretty sure they’ll both be handy in the long run to have. Now that just leaves the last one and however long it’s going to take me to finish.”

Yuzu wasn’t going to have anywhere near the level of experience Elvat had meaning it would take longer but given she’d also be with him for the next few days, he didn’t mind treating his soul a bit rougher than he’d originally planned, especially not when it might help him speed through a level or two of both soul expansion and resilience, but with how his first two choices turned out it did have him second guessing what he was considering for his final choice of that run.

Why not take something a bit more certain like master actualizer? Or even multiversal material mage? That one was sure to give bonuses to his material manipulation at least and with how high it was, if he managed to awaken the two skills he wanted to get to the third tier then it wasn’t unreasonable to hope he could spend whatever extra time he had left trying to awaken that one too.

…Okay, maybe wanting three third-tier skills before the next wave instead of two is a little unreasonable to hope, seeing as nobody’s gotten more than two before.

Still, it would be a perfectly viable option, but despite how he felt about some of the results he’d received so far, one thing he couldn’t deny was that they were interesting, at least to him, and when he didn’t think it would be that long to finish Yuzu if he really worked his soul a bit, why not indulge that interest just a little more? After all, there was one job he held that he’d been curious about ever since it had appeared on his list of options and he had just been given the perfect chance to take it.

Oh, what the hell, why not? It might even be something incredible. Give me judge.

A new skill and more second-tier bonuses, just like he’d hoped, but what wasn’t reflected in it was the change it brought in him. Subtly, he had gained a small new sense that was almost akin to how the space spirits perceived the world as he began to feel what could have only been almost a half-foot of the fabric of reality around him, leaving him to question just what his new, unknown skill would allow him to do.

Comments

Jake is called jack, and you copied the available jobs to the stats table rather than above when he's selecting a job!

Vin Reisling

Is it just me or the status table is broken?

Inraviel

It would probably be less then 10 minutes if he wasn't helping the others but he is and cuz that's the case taking a job cuz it could give him more jobs isn't the best use of them

Isiah Debarros

Just getting the job would probably get it to 99 if he wasn't in a party but his soul production it doesn't matter but I really wish he would take those two I think that anything like modifier compatibility should be taken as soon as possible

Isiah Debarros

@Sammot, yeah no that would do it too. But third tier doubles everything, if he's already above 1k agility, and has a 'stat boost inclination' that doubling might go even higher when he hits 3rd tier. With the stuff from the newest chapter, he might be close without having to run at all lol

nugitoBambino

He should be able to get an infinite chain of faithstone generation going, however. Creating one of his materializers for faith-stone connected to an external soul, and a materialize to make more materializers etc. etc. (classic positive feedback loop stuff) While Oaun has unreal levels of faith, an 'ocean's worth' as you will, if the Demons function as links (suggested from Ben's original formation of this stuff stealing faith from gods he knows) this could be a huge find. While I imagine Oaun instantly cutting the connection between him and any demons that are draining faith (if he can even do it that easily, which I'm doubtful of), Ben could then mass-produce faith-stone, grind them into a powder, and drop them as an air-borne chemical through the portals. especially if he works with Thera (or her crazy life spirit aunt) to make a faith-stone-based infectious pathogen, like Myriads original population used mythril in their genetic/biological makeup, just with faithstone (or a faithstone/mythril alloy) instead of pure mythril. Instead of the static reduction in troops via elmination, like when he anti-matter bombed the demons worlds, this would be like 'faith-based' biological warfare against a god. Every faith-stone drop makes the demons actively dangerous to Oaun, if my understanding of faith stone is correct. And given the exponential rates of biological growth, they'd eventually hit a tipping point where Oaun enters truly dangerous territory - should be enough to weaken him for a real chance to kill the guy. Mind you, this doesn't stop the demons themselves (with their resilience to biological and chemical warfare due to their inherent soul mastery). But the demons become massively more manageable with a crippled Oaun. Ben can always anti-matter bomb them later anyway, or safely get off-planet if Oaun doesn't have the faith energy to follow them, then use the space-spirits to annihilate the planets at his leisure. Honestly, the only reason to be hesitant about doing this, besides the difficulty of creating a faith-stone-based pathogen, is that this would be incredibly dangerous to _all_ gods. Except perhaps a "god of sacriledge" of course ;)

nugitoBambino

Ben can make faith stone on his own, he doesn't need Jake. it's just really expensive. The ones he can't make are the affinitied materials, like death stone. Of those, the only one that he really wants more of and has been used for his recent creations is voidstone.

Collateral_ink

Thought that for a while. I can see multiple fusions in the future we know his blessed skills will awaken again. Given that they will each take a lot of skills with them. But he will probably get an unnatural soul at some point or outsider soul. He will eat a god tho mark my words.

Ashlynn & William Elmore

With the number of faith Oaun gets from all the demons across all the planets it would probably be like a drop in a bucket. But certainly something to consider. Thought if a blessing is required, there won't be that many demons out there.

Luboš Hemala

New scenario: Merges with King of Sacrilege and Ben can smite Eneth whenever he wants

Cole Armstrong

Or it goes in the other direction: merges with King of Sacrilege to become Divine Auditor.

Marquess

Ben's really good at pupetting though. Maybe he's saving easy jobs due when he's not powering through the hard ones?

Corvusamous

Can't he get Jake to materialize a ton of that anti faith rock he made? Slap that on all those demons he is experimenting on

Personssess

Would be funny if Condemnation awakened into smite (a godly act of striking someone with lightning) and Ben got knockoff lightning magic

Cole Armstrong

So I just had a binge of all 780 chapters over the last about week and a half. It's a really good story. This has been one of my favorite binges in quite awhile. Tyftc

Paperback Hail6

That’s why this is the perfect time to take Title Master because he’s using the party member’s Adventurer class to power through his levels instead of doing the things that gets XP for his own job.

Michael Wilson

Heyo, what if Ben's connect merges with his mind skills instead of enchanting? Or maybe all 3 together? Like what if Ben started thinking in enchantments. Could he even build himself back up like that?

Corvusamous

Need to take Tailor, Divine Tailor and then Tailor of All to craft with the fabric of reality.

Michael Wilson

I am excited for what ever this new job is going to be about because oh boy this skill looks interesting

Phoenixdrop

It doesnt matter how the jobs gain experience, since with the party system ben is speedrunning everything by making souls-as showcased in this chapter. If you're just asking for curiousity though, I imagine title master is similar to king of [stat] jobs where a certain threshold is needed to complete. I imagine that's gaining titles, between 1-3 I'd assume. expert is likely an advanced/side variant of master of all and works in a similar manner

elkress

Condemnation: 1 "the expression of very strong disapproval and/or censure."; 2 "the action of sentencing someone to a punishment" To decide such things sounds... godly.

Marquess

Hahahahaha

Rain

Title Holder and Expert will prob give more benefits depending on the number of titles/jobs he had before he takes them

Cole Armstrong

I am confident you are correct, Demolug, he got it and a few titles of a similar nature (if I remember correctly) after condemning Ather to hell.

Carl Mason

How do you gain experience for a Title Master job? Have people use your titles, gain new ones, be awesome? Usually the main experience source is supposed to be related to the job's nature, with the single exception of demons being a valid experience source for any job.

Carl Mason

Just did my third re-read of this chapter, and an even wilder thought came to me. He describes his new sense as feeling the Fabric of reality. Can that fabric be used to craft stuff? I would say no, for anyone other than Ben, what with his transgressor/rule breaker shtick he’s got going on. He’s got me confident that impossible isn’t a thing in this universe, if one is willing to try hard enough.

Demolug

That sounds like more tier 2, or perhaps if he gets another "judgement skill" centered around that. Maybe something like "Pardon"

Collateral_ink

Defense Inclination could raise his Soul Resilience

Luboš Hemala

My first thought was Ghost Rider penance meets locking a skill down from someone's status.

ReadingObsessed

I dont understand why he didnt go for title holder or expert. Since i would assume they either enhance existing job/title benefits or made rushing throught jobs easier.

Martin Kalum

Either that or when he modifies his soul

Or vidan peled

I am 100% sure the system is sentient now and is purposefully trying to prepare Ben.

Silverias

New idea about judge/condemnation. Ben was very critical of the gods’ use of the infinite hells. What if this was more of a… window into the infinite hells, where he is able to judge the souls in there, either freeing them or condemning them to remain there. Sounds a bit far fetched, I know, but it could be interesting.

Demolug

If connect awakening is thecmain goal, a minor boost for 10 minutes of soul creation, that leads to better bonuses on top. Is not a time waste.

Frank Moore

Ya but it's a low tier job it could open up others for him but he still has others that will help him now

Isiah Debarros

Probably Ill Intent as well

Cole Armstrong

Maybe if he somehow awakened it to T3 and combined with something, but this looks like personal defense.

Luboš Hemala

He'll get there when he gets to third tier. Then all his stats will be doubled

Sammot

Also new job/title entitled

Mister Cakers

Lmao title master gives title inclination

Mister Cakers

I know Ben hates running, but I feel like he should try to get his agility above 1000. This is just to see if he gets another title or job option if all his stats (besides mana and HP recovery) go above 1k.

nugitoBambino

Wouldnt beginer puppeteer help with connect. Do to how he puppets others?

Frank Moore

God of defense here Ben comes

JoeyB

I don’t think so, seeing that its place in the list is after the outsider job, that he got after seeing the chaos. I may be misremembering though.

Demolug

Nope, he got it when he executed the 5 god's.

Alexander Semino

Yeah don't see it leveling until we get to the hell death god arc

SnowReason

Now he can see the karma of the others...

CataFlan

I wonder if the new defence inclination will allow him to make something to prevent or at least delay the invasions

Linkneo5

He can totally throw people into hell now, can't he?

Collateral_ink

Just what I was saying a while back. It looks like breaching the tier 3 barrier will take some serious Sacrilegious acts. Like going up into, just for example, Eneth's divine realm and beat him within an inch of his divinity, drag him out of his realm into the world and execute him on the steps of his desecrated temple, then burn his body on a pyre of ruined idols. Then just for fun, turn the metal remains of the idols into a statue of Eneth cowering in fear before Ben and display it prominently in the temple of Myriad.

Carl Mason

Hmm, I think King of Sacrilege might become something like Judge of Gods for T3

Darius Sanguna

Love the sin meter idea Althion, please let this give Ben a new metric to know how much of a good by Myriad is but hoo boy how is Nare going to look?

Corvusamous

Possibly, he presumably got the job after sending eneth's son to the infinite hells.

Aurelius

Ya I've been waiting for all of his body skills to merge and awaken its going to be glorious

Isiah Debarros

That DEMON SLAYER title though ;-)

Luboš Hemala

The user jobs only seem to open up doors for jobs so completing all 3 will probably do something.

Isiah Debarros

That would be interesting time to see the system encyclopedia

Isiah Debarros

I don't think that sacrilege is stopping him most cuz it's the only skill he had at that level for a very long time and the stuff he was doing to get it to the 3rd tier wasn't on the level were it was buff enough to get him over the wall like killing a important member of a faith would probably level the skill at the first 4 levels but at some point he would of had to chip at the wall for like 50 years like the others do or do something so big that the wall is destroyed like killing a god

Isiah Debarros

I have my fingers crossed for him taking body user. That would complete the body/mind/soul user series, hopefully granting a title or a good new job

Demolug

Fingers crossed the job really ties into sacrilege in a fun way. The skill sounds interesting too. Could go a lot of ways with a name like that.

Emily Gurnavage

Condemnation… sensing reality… my first guess is something of a natural skill to send stuff to the hells. He did get that job after throwing Ather in the infinite hells.

Demolug

I'm betting he's saving that for Abel(?), the only one with weirder skills. And apparently descended from an outsider-god

Nematrec

Probably give him all the titles that he just missing requirements for and maybe make their effect stronger

Isiah Debarros

Divine Judgement has a nice ring to it. I wonder if that'll be the third tier version of condemnation like most divine skills, or second tier like Bens Divine enchanting.

Nematrec

He already has the godslayer title.

SacredSteel

Maybe. I kinda think it’s more along the lines of banishing to the underworld at will… That would jive with a feel for the fabric of space around him.

Texan fan of battleships

I feel like all his defense and body skills may awaken and merge into something interesting when he takes high tank or does something in the trial towers. He has quite a few of them

Profile Name

Mass job hunt. Nice to see and interesting new prospects. I half expected him to take the outsider job. Turn into an eldritch horror to break the minds of everyone sees him and than get banished to hell. Maybe I let my imagination run a bit too wild. Lol

SacredSteel

Is Ben able to send people to hell now

TheFallenMagi

I'm starting to think Ben's Sacrilege skill may be keeping him from going to third tier. It's possible that Ben's just going to become a god through second tier skills alone as he's learning to do all the things God's can do without actually being a god. Another theory is that he'll have all of his god like skills fuse into one skill and turn him into something else? I'm excited to see where this goes

Druid Unlikely

Great chapter, thank you Turnip!

Luboš Hemala

Just waiting for that inevitable Godslayer title edit: never mind didn't see it in the list. Huh nice rounded slaying action

Eli Loeb

He's going to know at a glance how evil gods are on a sliding scale

Althion

Condemnation and King of sacrilege are definitely going to merge

Isiah Debarros

This chapter dropped some bombs! My biggest concern though is that Ben can now apparently sense the fabric of reality itself, not unlike when the outsider came close to realities.

TheCrazyDuck

Thanks for the chapter!

SDCard

Not the path I expected, but the logic is solid. Though now I'm curious as to what title master would do for him.

Brandon Yarberry

Oh god he’s got a sin detector now, maybe idk. Or maybe he’s got some ghost rider penance ability
