All Pennywise All The Time
Added 2024-05-15 19:47:16 +0000 UTCShould hardcore bands change with the culture or stay in their lanes? Is Linkin Park a thing I should have to hear ever again in my life? Is doing music a frivolous pursuit that leads otherwise good people to ruin?

Another analysis of the dust-fathers… I find these insights both humbling and intensely interesting.

2024-05-17 19:28:50 +0000 UTCI like Bob's point about how subculture shouldn't be parallel to the mainstream but should be in opposition. Like, that's what got me into punk/hardcore in the first place. But to exist in opposition like that, some degree of "gatekeeping" is necessary...not the "name three songs" bullshit, but saying " these are the ethics, these are the parameters and if you fall outside that, you ain't IN"...like just because something has distorted guitars and angsty lyrics doesn't mean it fits. People can still like whatever they like, but if you start dismantling the standards of what punk or hardcore MEANS then you don't have a "scene" you just have a marketing term.
