The winner of the theme poll for March was THE GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS! I think I'll call this set "Boschly Delights" for short.
If you're not already familiar with the painting this is based off of, allow me to introduce you! Very little is known about this painting or its creator, Hieronymus Bosch. He grew up in a family of Dutch/Netherlandish painters (his father and 4 out of 5 sons took up the trade) in the late 1400s. A few religious triptychs have been attributed to him, including The Garden of Earthly Delights, his most famous.
TGOED is one of my favorite paintings of all time, and I was lucky enough to see it in person at The Prado Museum in Madrid when I was 18. I think I love it so much because, to me, it represents a full-hearted commitment to beautiful strangeness, to mystery, to humor. It's deeply inspiring how Bosch was able to create a piece of art beloved across centuries by being really weird, knowing exactly what he was doing, and doing it well.
I hope I was able to do the original justice while putting my own sticker club spin on it!
Have a delightful rest of February, wonderful patrons! π
