Today I bring you a new watercolor painting called "The Lantern Dancers" and a bit of fun news: I'll be selling prints of this piece at Emerald City Comic Con here in Seattle 8/18 - 8/21!
I've wanted to table at conventions for -yeeeaaars- and I'm incredibly excited to finally try it out! I'll have prints, original artwork, buttons, stickers (of course), and a few other little surprises. I'm sharing a booth with friend and fellow illustrator, Sarah Neff, at table LL-05 in Artist's Alley on the 6th floor of the Washington State Convention Center.
Please come by and say hi if you're attending!!
A bit more about "The Lantern Dancers" for the curious:
This piece started off as an aimless doodle of some girls sitting on a bench. Coming up with a background after I had already drawn the bench was tricky, and my BG painter/designer friends Kat and Molly were kind enough to give me a few pointers with the perspective. The girls looked to be taking a break (the pink girl looked particularly hot and tired). I decided they had stolen away from a festival dance for a smoke, and sketched in the distant dancers. I came up with a rough color palette using Procreate, transferred the sketch to watercolor paper, and used liquid watercolor to paint the piece. I finished it off with a bit of ink and gouache for detail, and voila! This painting was a joy to work on from start to finish (god I love liquid watercolors) and I think it came out really well ๐
