Only The Best (Verse)

Who wants to learn a new riff today?! This laid back groove is guaranteed to improve your mood, make you some new friends, and increase your prosperity. You're going to be the talk of the town!

One extra thing I want to mention is that the left hand finger positions aren't too strict, if you pay attention to my left hand you'll see that I sometimes use different fingers for the same notes when they return. Ultimately go with what feels right - but a good starting place would be to play in the 3rd position - 1st finger on 3rd fret, 2nd on 4, 3rd on 5, and 4th on 6.

Little note on the theory -  this comes from a Bb mixolydian scale, which consists of Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab. The synth chords playing over the riff are Bb major, Ab major, Bb major, Eb major, Bb major.  All of these are derived from notes within the scale.

TAB is attached. Drop any questions or comments down below!

EDIT: Tristian Carroll accurately pointed out in the comments that this lesson is played one semitone higher than the recorded version. That's my mistake - if you wish to play along with the recording, play the exact same notes but shift everything down one fret. 👍

It was 100% inspired by that

That's the biggest factor, but maybe experiment with how hard vs soft you're picking the strings.

This is going to be so fun to play! And I hope to be able to play the solo someday!

Thank you for the good mood, new friends, and prosperity! But most of all, thank you for not trying to wish us fertility. *glares at cone man*

Lovely chill riff! Any tips for getting that laid-back sound? I see on the tab it's palm muted, but anything beyond that? Have a great week, stay safe!

Thought you'd gone rogue and tuned to E flat for one song or something! I recorded a cover of the song for YouTube when it first came out and didn't want to unlearn everything I thought I knew

You're right! I'm forgetting my own songs - hahaha! The notes are still the exact same, but you will shift everything down just one fret to play along with the recording.

Isn't the recording a semitone lower than this?

Such a cool groove! This section of the song always makes me think of Gary Numan in the best way.

Yeeeaaah! I've loved this riff since I first heard it. So much fun to play. Lookin' forward to seeing that solo tabbed...

yeahhhh! We love riffs!
