Life Party (Chorus)

HOLY CRAP! We just hit 200 followers on this page! Thank you for the support!

To celebrate, here's a funky, positive, and golden riff.

...

The chord progression is:

C major - Bb major - A minor 7
D minor 11 - G# diminished 7 - A minor 7
G minor 7 - C9 - F6/9 - F/G

Wow, so jazzy and smooth! Generally speaking, the more numbers you have in the chord names, the jazzier it is. I would love to be able to break down exactly what each chord means but it would take an entire book to explain adequately. Would anyone out there maybe be interested in some theory lessons?

Here's how I decided to play the chords shapes:

--8----6----5------5--10--12-----
--8----6----5------6--9----10-----
--9----7----5------5--10---12-----
-10---8-----5------5--9----10-----
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------

--10---10-----8-----5--------------
--8-----8------8-----6--------------
--10----9-----7------5--------------
--8-----8------7------5--------------
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------

Generally when it comes to funky stuff, I like to play 3 or 4 note chord voicings on the high strings. If I play voicings that are any larger (like 5 or 6 strings), it'll start to muddy up the arrangement of the song and get in the way of the synths and bass.

The right hand plays muted scratchy notes in between the chords. I do this by lifting my hand off the strings just a tiny bit, so that they're no longer fretting the chord, but still touching the strings. Alternate picking is the best way. You'll see my right hand isn't consistent on this, but that's because I'm playing it wrong by accident! Make sure you're consistent in switching between downstrokes and upstrokes.

A clean sparkly tone is the way to go here. No distortion, and a pickup position that uses 2 pickups (sometimes called an 'in between' sound) is the way to go.

Hats/helmets off to 200 followers! Also music theory is such a joy to learn, I'm sure many people would be interested, myself included. I already love the snippets with each video here, but going more in depth would be awesome. And thanks for another piece to Life Party!!

Congrats! And yes, some theory lessons would be fantastic! Maybe you don't need to go all the way down to Guitar 101, or even 102, since there are already so many amazing "Guitar Basics" series on YouTube, but a "Funky Fundamentals" series sounds like a ton of fun!

Someone's paying attention!

Congrats on the 200 followers! I've always loved this song, it's so positive and never fails to brighten my mood. As for theory lessons, I would absolutely LOVE theory lessons! Hope you're having a good one, dude! Thanks again for these positive Life Party vibes! :)

I see that ii-V-I in there ;)

I'll usually plug straight in, so there's no amp sound. I like using a strat on the 2nd or 4th pickup positions, which tend to sound 'quackier'. A little bit of compression is nice to help level out the volume of different notes, and that's it!

(Btw, did my chromatic finger exercises as hammer-ons just now, just because that's a thing I'm capable of now and it's fun :D Riveting update, I know, but sometimes you just gotta share something that brings you joy, right?)

Congratulations on the 200!! And Life Party, yay! Always dig that one! Who wrote the Sand song from your stream yesterday? I wanted to listen to it and can't find it anywhere.
