No Pants Dance (Intro)

Here's a sparkly guitar part to brighten your day. This same part is in both recorded versions of the song. TAB is attached as a PDF and a Guitar Pro file.

This one is pretty straight forward because you're only playing a new chord every 2 measures - so it's great for all playing levels!


Pro Tips:

Here are the chord shapes, and below I've written the fingering I use for each.

But, you can try different fingerings if you prefer. Do whatever feels the most comfortable.

For the right hand, I like to slowly rake across the 4 strings to make somewhat of a chimey sound.


Theory Talk:

Hey theory junkies. These chords are:

C#min7 - F#min11 - Emaj - Bmaj - F#add11 - B maj

I hope I'm getting these names right. It's some pretty advanced stuff and it took me a moment to run my mental computations and write this out.

The guitar isn't always playing the root notes of the chords, keep in mind. So on some of the chords, the 5th is the lowest note, for example.


Tone Talk:

There's a thick chorus effect on the guitar. This gives us a lush n' thick doubling effect by detuning the sound ever so slightly. Reverb is also helpful to make the guitar sound far away and more atmospheric. If you have these effects on an amp or a pedal or anything, it will go along way with providing the vibe you seek. If not, don't lose sleep over it as it's not necessary!

I know No Pants Dance and Debussy are worlds apart, but that's what dreamy 11th chords remind me of. The dissonance of the next to last chord resolves so nicely to the last chord. :) (Also, please, I have an itch to buy gear rn, this just makes it more tempting...)

Btw, had a really satisfying moment earlier this week while I was practicing Beat It--it just wasn't sounding how it should, rhythm-wise, and it was starting to bug me. Then just...something clicked, I changed it up just a little, and suddenly it was SO much better! Best feeling in the world :D

Oh shit, sparkly parts are my favorite! <3 This one looks reasonably doable, I might give it a try at some point today? Feels like it might go well with the sparkliest-scented candle I own, which is imaginatively named Unicorn Poop 😂
