Important! Upcoming Patreon Changes (Please Read) :)

Hi DMs! It's been a crazy year and I'm so proud of what we've accomplished. We now have adventure prompts for almost every new map, as well as a website, weekly newsletter, plus more content in the works thanks to the amazing Beb who has left her job and joined me full-time as an adventuring partner.

You all helped make that possible with your support, which has made it even more fulfilling for us than ever before. Thank you so much everyone! :)

Future Changes

Since we started Patreon, a lot has changed for Beb and I. But despite that, it’s been almost two years since we’ve updated our tiers or page design here. Lately we’ve been brainstorming how to improve and give more value to you guys, and one of the way’s we think will work is by potentially teaming up with artists and writers to do what we can’t.

In preparation for this, we’ve made some changes to our tiers, as well as added new ones. Let us know what you think of the new ones, though you can’t yet join them because we need to finish setting everything up.

If you think anything’s missing or wouldn’t use something, PLEASE let us know in case a lot of other DMs feel this way and we can add / remove it.

There’ll be more changes in future that we don’t have listed here, and there will be more posts coming in future where we’ll talk about them more.

Current Changes

Tier Redesign

Since we’re adding so many new tiers we’re trying to streamline them all, which is why we’re hiding the $2 tier. We’ve added the $2 tier features to the $1 tier and increased its Patron limit by 50 slots. So, if you’re on the $2 tier but want to switch over to get the same rewards we recommend you do so now.

If you want to stay on your $2 tier (which we really appreciate), don’t worry about anything—you’ll keep getting your rewards as per usual, it’s just hidden now so no new Patrons can see or join the tier anymore.

New Tier Art

We now have AMAZING TIER ART done by the insanely talented (and underappreciated) Art of Caustic. PLEASE go check out more of his work on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/artofcaustic or Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/art.of.caustic/. He really deserves more attention.

That’s it for the update! Thanks again for supporting our work, it really means so much to us and we hope we keep giving you all really helpful content to make DMing easier :)

Thanks Taylor! ~Luke

Hey Kieran, thanks man! I'll talk to beb about a new filing system. I'd like to at minimum get up 4 separate google drive links which contains all the Low Res VTT maps, High Res VTT Maps, PDFs and Poster prints at a minimum. but we could also file maps by terrain type perhaps? idk, I'm open to any suggestions of how everyone would find it easiest. :) ~Luke

Thanks so much for the feedback Martin! based off your feedback I'll see if I can get my brother Tim to start doing some regular Pinterest uploads. I also think some type of system to reward more backlog maps is good and I'll have to talk to beb more about how we implement that in a reasonable way. :) ~Luke

So an option if u want it is to offer increased access to back catalogue as u rise in tiers, once people are hooked on your maps at $1 ( like I was) access to more old maps and png files would encourage them to increase their tier over time. On that note, offer some limited png at tier 1 so that new people know that/what png are available Some how ( facepalm) I’d totally missed that you offered png files and thought it was a terrible shame u didn’t (2nd facepalm)

I’d been looking at other similar artists and was surprised that given your very very high quality maps that you did not have more patrons/income. Access to all the back catalogue at the 1st tier is very generous. Other artists offer less … eg Heroic maps, my 2nd favourite, who only offer 1years worth of back catalogue at the lowest tier $4.50 per month. I just jumped to the $3 tier myself as I wanted the png files and felt that I was underpaying at $1. On the selling note, I’d first come across your maps on Pinterest which before patron was my and other main source of battle maps….up your game there to draw in more patrons. Create a group for yourself.

Happily jumped up to the $3 from the 2. I would love to see a better organised library of maps! I’ve used these regularly and just had one printed for a first return to face to face D&D!

Hey Teagan, that is a possibility but I think it’s a preferable solution compared to others. For a little background, over the last 6 months the Patreon page has stagnated in growth barely increasing month on month and sometimes going negative. Unfortunately that meant we needed to change something. Beb and I decided to do a lot of research on how other map makers do their pages and the most common system seem to be based on getting a certain amount of variants per tier. So for instance you get 2 maps at $1, 4 maps at $3 and all the rest of the variants at $5. This makes our Patreon page kinda rare in that we offer all our maps and variants on our $1 tier and we like that. It’s nice that if your on a lower tier you don’t have to worry that one week your favorite map variant will be locked behind a higher paywall and all of a sudden you feel obliged to pay more than you intended. So instead of changing our page to reflect other mapmakers and charging more for extra variants we decided to keep it the same. That meant something else had to give however. So we came up with the idea to limit the lower tiers to some extent. Doing it like this means that loyal patrons and those who have been here the longest still get all their maps for $1 instead of having to become $5 patrons to get all their map variants and while new patrons may have to pay more at a higher tier to get those same rewards it still leads to better overall prices for patrons especially those who get in early and are loyal, which I think is a positive. Hopefully this helps you understand more of why we’ve made certain decisions. Nothing set in stone however, so feedback is always great to hear. :) ~ Luke

Wait, the $1 tier has a patron limit? Surely, it doesn't make sense to have a restriction on the lowest level, what's the benefit to that? Isn't it likely to lose potential patrons that can't commit to a higher tier if all the slots are full?
