Rounding a corner, off the highway and onto a city street, everything sounded fuzzy. The vibration of the car cancelled out by her pulse. The cacophony of urban life fading into a haze. The world seemed to stretch and pull away, like looking through a telescope.
In her rearview mirror, Nicole could see Ivana. Head resting against the cushion of her shoulder strap, the broad ruffle of her top had slipped during the drive, exposing her ever smaller breasts.
A tremor rocked her body, shuddering as she looked to her right. The aftershocks subsiding while looking at her invention. “It’ll all be worth it.” She whispered.
Ivana’s head bobbed, the car-seat and cloth pinning her shrunken arms to her sides. Looking at the clock, she made a quick calculation. “The beam should keep her out for another two hours… maybe I could tweak the device, and market it as a sleep aid? No shrinking necessary...”
Forcing her attention back to the road, Nicole steered took another turn. “Keep moving, you’re almost home free.” She whispered.
Humming a lullaby softly, she continued on her circuitous route. With each tick of the odometer, her smile widened. Months of planning, hundreds spent in modifying her happy home, the memory of Ivana’s face as the ray struck her, the way she sank into her clothes.
The traffic signal ahead of her turned red, and Nicole slowed her car to a stop. Turning in her seat, she looked into the back seat. Streetlight glinting off of the flecks of glitter in Ivana’s eyeshadow, catching on her fetching lipstick.
“Oh sweetie, if you had any idea how cute you look…” Lifting her phone, Nicole snapped a quick photo. “The adjustment’s going to take time, and I know you had big plans, but I know you're going to love your new life.” She purred. “In time.”
