Not A Toy 118

Maisie lay back onto the not-at-all-soft surface of the bed. The pillow was stiff but at least had some give to it. Her head twisted towards the older woman. "'Move over'? Given up on the grand escape plan, have we?"

Jenna rolled her eyes, leaning against the plastic frame, barely noticing her weight didn't shift the tiny toy of a bed. "Not much chance of doing that on my own, is there?" Her tone accusing.

Maisie kept her eyes on the teacher. "You're right. How rude of me not to share my magic pixie dust that grants us super strength and lets us fly..."

Jenna, reluctantly, lifted her legs onto the bed and slid beside her younger roommate. "I don't know how you're making jokes..." The teacher didn't want to lay back just yet; even entering the bed felt like some kind of betrayal to her pride, and to actually lie down in this degrading accommodation would be akin to surrender.

"What else are we going to do?" Maisie responded, her gaze drifting to the roof above. There wasn't a star to be found, despite it seeming as distant as the night sky.

Jenna tried to bury her own pride as the younger woman spoke, she was unfortunately right. With the door shut, the computer turned off and locked, and no phone in the room - what could they do? The older woman felt an absurd thought flicker in her mind; that if Sophie had made them smaller, they could probably slip beneath the door itself. Her stomach churned at that; Jenna refused to accept any virtue in shrinking further.

Maisie filled the quiet between them. "You know, when I was a kid Fern Gully was one of my favourite movies, I went as Crysta to a few Halloween parties even. I was into fairy's and stuff a lot."

"Uh, I don't think i've seen it..." Jenna replied.

Maisie raised her brows for a moment, then her expression settled. "Oh its..." She started, with some enthusiasm. "Ah. After today... it'd probably be more traumatic than anything... But turns out they don't mention how much everything smells at this size. It's so musty in here..."

Jenna took a while before responding, finally leaning back against the same stiff pillow. "I'm definitely going to be cleaning out my purse more than I do... Hers was such a mess."

Maisie chuckled flatly. "Maybe install some seatbelts in yours just in case?"

Jenna stubbornly buried any mirth. "There's no way I'm going to be able to sleep."

The younger woman inwardly agreed, Sophie's makeshift bedroom was far from comfortable. "I'm gonna try at least..." Was all she could offer.

A silence laid itself upon the pair then, both of them wrangling with the reality they found themselves in. Moving between the absurdity of it all, the sheer bad luck for things to have gone the way they did, the strange attitude of Sophie, the chaotic ride in the scientist's bag, their ridiculous outfits, being measured, the spilled wine, the bath... Amidst it all they tried to press down the knowledge that no one in the world knew where they were right now saved for the enormous redhead across the hall.

And as such thoughts rattled around inside their minds, there was one truth that rose to the fore for both of them: exhaustion.

Whether or not it was a side effect of their dwindled size, the defiance they felt in the face of slumber could not be maintained, and sleep eventually claimed the shrunken women - far sooner than either of them expected.

So, a kind of peace settled upon Sophie's home, despite the unprecedented, world-first events that had taken place that afternoon and evening.

However, as the night waned and the sun crept upon the sky, the peace that claimed Sophie's home was disrupted by a firm knocking on her door...

I just love your stories, you make the characters come alive which makes me hope that Maisie rises to the challenge.

Quite the rigorous process!!

Ivana

So glad you both like it! I love the theorizing!!

Ivana

I think Sophie will be joining them, but not by choice. I'm still holding out hope for Maisie, the little firecracker.

Can't wait to see the dynamic duo when they wake up. Escape in the morning? But from whom, Sophie or Nathalie? Maisie has been the adventurer in previous NAT, now will she work with Jenna to overcome the situation? Iva you spin a great story, anxiously awaiting the next turn.

is this part of the interview lol

Out... Bloody... Standing! There isn't enough time spent in the quiet moments of a shrinking story. The dialogue between Maisie and Jenna is so cute, real distinct voices!

Nicole Corcoran

Well, the hair style is very similar, and it was Nathalie that (NAT 80) warned Sophie about an investigation. So, Nathalie is in the perfect position to steal the device and make Sophie "disappear", thus casting Sophie as the culprit.

Great creation from you Ivana. It's always a pleasure to see Maisie and Jenna in their tiny versions. 🥰 I no longer quite remember the whole plot of this story but perhaps Sophie will have some explanations to give to her superiors? 🤔 We'll see. In any case, I continue to follow this story diligently.

Lloyd26

Oh my, who's that knocking? Jenna and Maisie sure can't answer the door, but what if Sophie is too small as well? And what if she isn't? Oh, so intriguing! Please don't make us wait too long!

Syrus Durham

Wonderful transition Iva😻. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Warin the Younger

Great story development.
