Still Bored

Ariel had had enough.

How long could one meeting possibly take anyway? The girl considered though that time away from Ivana was definitely a plus. Still, she had been told to wait for her, but it had been like... forever!

With a huff, the dark-haired girl stood from Ivana's chair, pocketed her phone and strode from the older woman's office. 'Aren't there meant to be labs here?' She thought to herself, trying to think of anything that might distract her.

The girl wandered. It was a late afternoon on a Friday, so there were far fewer staff around than there would be normally. Several times she withdrew her phone, pinged several group chats, refreshed apps, before pocketing it once again. She barely noticed she had left the offices behind and found her way to the company's labs.

She found herself outside a set of doors labelled 'R&D' - whatever that meant, she thought to herself. The girl was about to enter when footsteps fast approached her.

"Uh, hi Ariel." Came a woman's voice. Her tone was like she had something more to say immediately and wanted to rush past the niceties. "Can I help you?"

The younger girl looked up, she recognized her - Katie? Karen? She couldn't remember.

"Hi." The CEO's daughter said flatly.

"Yeahso, uhm - can I help you?" Came the adult's question. She knew that Ariel had a bit of a reputation among the staff for being as entitled as her mother. "Are you lost?"

Ariel bit her lip. "Uh, no. Do I look lost to you?"

Karen grinned through the attitude. "No, of course not - isn't Ivana meant to be looking after you today? It's just that - without clearance - you're not allowed to be here."

The teenager almost scowled at the name but had a thought. "Yeah, she's super busy and sent me to get something from..." Her eyes darted to the mysterious 'R&D' again. "Inside there."

Karen's brow furrowed. She wasn't Ivana's biggest fan, and her dislike for her made it easier to believe Ariel's lie. "Thats really not how 'clearance' is meant to work but..." The redhead was also aware that Ivana was senior to her. "Fine. Let me help you find it."

Ariel's expression turned frustrated. "I'm not a little kid. I know what I'm looking for - should I tell my mum that one of her staff is being super rude?"

Karen's gaze narrowed at the brat before her. The teenager's threats weren't entirely hollow, and she had heard gossip that claimed one staff member had been in the CEO's bad books for months after a disagreement with Ariel.

Considering all that, Karen remembered as well that it was a Friday. 'They're not paying me enough to care anyway.' She thought to herself.

The redhead feigned smile. "Fine."

With that, she strode past the shorter girl, the sound of her heels echoed down the hall. Ariel looked over her shoulder with a smirk, then vanished inside the R&D lab.
