The 'sexy witches' were inside, their heels clicking against the floor, the echoing pronounced by the high roof of Lia's home. Maisie was forced to exert some strength as she shut the door. The older woman's voice was heard as the pair acquainted themselves with their new surroundings. "You can leave the bags by the door. Not that they were looking that heavy - which isn't how you want things to go on Halloween, is it?" Her voice still carried that shift in tone, the scrutinizing voice that had given the young women their cold welcome seemed gone.
Sophie couldn't help but grin at that. People like this 'Lia' woman were so predictable, thought the blonde. She was probably used to bossing around people at her work, and those same folks likely never spoke back. Sophie had learned that people like her backed down quickly after being challenged - and that seemed to be the case here.
Maisie strode through, setting down her bag, and opting to leave their phones amidst the scarce candy they had accrued so far. The young brunette had to admit, the home was less run down than she expected. She had heard some odd rumors about 'the woman who lived on Crescentwood Lane' - stories of strange lights being seen in the windows, of eerie sounds heard from within. What was more, the description she had heard about the person who lived here didn't sync up with Lia's actual appearance at all really.
Maisie shrugged inwardly, all the more reason those stories were nothing more than that - stories.
If they were able to scrounge all the snacks they needed plus drinks, from this woman then it would save the duo having to walk around the neighbourhood - as funny as the pair found their little foray, their heels would eventually cause them some discomfort. It was too early in the evening for them to be stumbling around town with their heels in their hands.
"So, is this something you do every year?" Came Lia's voice again.
It was Sophie who answered. "We don't take Halloween that seriously. We haven't done anything like this since our first year of uni."
Lia lowered her voice. "I can see that."
Yet, not low enough, as Sophie piped up. "Everything alright?" Her tone was laced with condescension, like she caught the older woman out.
The older woman turned slowly to face the two. "I mean..." There was clear impatience on her voice. "Don't you think those outfits are offensive stereotypes?"
Maisie had caught up with her taller friend, and Sophie responded with a chuckle. "Offensive to who, exactly?"
The shortest woman in the room pulled her friend close, and Sophie responded in kind. "Besides! We're adorable." Said Maisie, her eyes beaming with satisfied confidence.
Lia just regarded the posing pair, feigning a smile. "Why don't you two take a seat? I won't take long."
Maisie was thrilled at the offer to be off her feet, and strode to the sofa, while Sophie didn't move straight away.
Lia spoke again, much quieter now. "Just adorable..."
