La Fée Verte Part 2

For just a moment, Zoey felt a ship bob sharply to one side. It reminded her of being aboard Prestons super yacht after the Conference in San Francisco, when Noel and her associates had presented some new piece of tech at some industry affair. Zoey had never been much for those, but it turned out to be pretty fun. 

Awash in the pitch of the ephemeral sea she remembered meeting with a band the conference had hired. The singer was a fashionable brunette with a wonderful strip of red dyed hair hidden on the underside of her bangs. She was cute, could sing like a punk angel, and let her jam with the band while Noel hobnobbed with her superiors. 

In truth, it was all she could remember of that weekend. The yacht was fun, but full of stuffy tech nerds and Ponzi schemers. Zoey had never been sea sick, but parasailing along the California coast, being towed behind Preston’s speedboat had done a number on her stomach.

“Wait…” She thought. The memory froze around her, and as she wiggled in the harness to the parasail, one thought broke through her reverie. “I’m…. dreaming?”

The world seemed to shimmer around her, but carefully, she refocused her mind. “I haven’t ever lucid dreamed before.” She said aloud. 

Unclipping herself from the harness, she tumbled through space, but managed to hold herself aloft through her subconscious. Drifting through the air, she returned to the speedboat. Noel was looking up at the now empty parasail, her hand held above her sunshades. Her smile seeming to shine through the dream so brilliantly it was like the sun. 

Standing in the stationary hull she looked around the memory. The Golden Gate bridge was less than a kilometer away, she remembered a soft drink truck trundling along belching dark smoke as it crossed below a trellis. Sure enough, from her now lower perspective, she could still see the dark cloud just over the railings. 

“What a bold little girl you are.”
