Maisie was furious. She was as much a victim of that insane device as Jenna was, and here the teacher was implying that the younger woman was somehow to blame for her shrunken state.
"Hey! You saw it, that thing just fired randomly!"
"After you had fiddled with it, right?!"
Maisie's shoulders tensed as she argued with the other shrunken woman. "Whatever! You're trapped in here just like me, so don't act so smart!"
"This really is your fault though!" Their voices raised in volume.
"Says you! You're the one who was acting like a brat earlier - you really are annoying, no wonder that woman just... just zapped you!"
At that, Jenna's temper reached its peak, she leaned forward and slammed her palms onto the water bottle. "I'm the brat?! I'm the only one who has been thinking straight!" Her voice echoed inside the soft walls of the bag.
Maisie responded in kind, thrusting her hands onto the phone to meet Jenna's gaze. "And where did that get you?!"
"Trapped inside a bag with a girl with less sense than the kids I teach!"
Maisie bared her teeth at that, her brow furrowing. Before her temper boiled over, she snapped and threw her hands up, turning away from her 'cell mate'.
Jenna shrieked through a clenched jaw, turning away and sitting angrily on the water bottle.
Silence laid itself over the pair, as they both took a moment to let their tempers simmer down.
Their heart rates slowed, and their minds became less clouded with frustration. All they could hear was the distant footsteps of their red-headed captor. Eventually Jenna broke through the tension. "I guess..."
Maisie's eyes snapped in the teacher's direction, thinking another reprisal of their conflict was due.
"I guess that thing just zapped me randomly too... so... you aren't wholly to blame..."
Maisie's brow twitched at the concession. It wasn't exactly an apology, but she'd take what she could get. "And I suppose I shouldn't have been so trusting of her..."
They turned to face each other, putting aside their differences at least for the moment. Both realizing they had little to gain from further angst towards each other.
"So... what are we going to do..." Maisie asked, to herself and to Jenna.
Jenna considered their options. "I think using the phone is impossible, right? We'd need that girl's code..."
Maisie wracked her brain. "There is that thing you can do on phones, right? Where it calls an emergency even if its locked?"
"I... think so? I don't know how to do that on this brand of phone though..."
Maisie tightened her jaw, she didn't know either...
"That woman means to take us to her home, I guess..." Jenna stammered. "But... No, I don't think that would work..."
"What is it?" Maisie urged.
"Well, she won't leave if she doesn't have us both, right? One of us could hide while she's doing whatever it is she's doing out there, and when she comes looking - the other could demand to be turned back to normal."
Maisie considered that. They didn't have many good options here. "That woman did say it was broken though..."
Jenna shook her head. "I don't believe that for a second."
Maisie was less certain, but didn't press her position. Instead, she pondered Jenna's suggestion. "So, how do we even get out of here?"
Jenna took in their surroundings. "The phone. If we could wedge it in against the water bottle, we might be able to climb out of here..."
The graduate took a breath. "We probably don't have a lot of time. Lets try it, I guess."
Jenna nodded, and awkwardly clambered over the water bottle. The women looked at the phone, both of them aware that when they were their full sizes, holding a phone could become quite a weight in their hands. Maisie bent down first and took the end into her tiny grip, a grunt pressed past her lips as she struggled.
Jenna responded swiftly, kneeling down to assist in the effort. Her own dwindled hands taking what hold they could. The pair could feel it rising with their combined strength. The two women tried to ignore how extravagant an effort it was for them to simply stand a phone up...
They didn't have much time. They both realized they didn't have much of a plan either. Yet quietly they understood that even questionable action felt better than resignation.
