Liquid Courage

Rebecca had made a mistake.

Her and Tanya, her colleague, were so close to a breakthrough with their weight-loss serum, yet their project had failed the last approval gates for human testing. Rebecca had been utterly incensed, but Tanya had told her to look for the silver lining - the project hadn't been cancelled or funding ripped out from beneath them, they just need to continue working and likely at the next round they'd receive the clearance they needed.

Rebecca couldn't wait that long.

She knew her work was brilliant, or rather 'their work' - but the blonde believed herself to be the true brains behind this operation. She might have been a genius, but patience was not one of her fortes.

To celebrate their continued work, Tanya had arranged a party for herself, Rebecca and their colleagues at her own home. It had been an entirely lovely affair, with a fair amount of wine being consumed - by Rebecca especially. As the night had gone on, the blonde's inebriated mind came to an equally inebriated conclusion. She knew that Tanya kept some of the vials in her room, she'd find them, drink them and prove to every one of her colleagues that her prized work was perfectly suited to human testing.

By her calculations, , she'd drop a size or two but what did that matter in proving to everyone that she was right and they were wrong?

Rebecca slipped away from the crowd, ascending the stairs towards Tanya's bedroom where she found the test vials unlabelled, sitting idly on an end-table. With a tipsy motion, she had toasted herself and downed the concoction - some of its contents spilling onto her dress

At first, nothing.

Then, far from nothing. Discomfort and nausea swelled inside her, she stumbled, her hand tried to steady herself and knocked two more vials to the ground and they cracked and spilled over her heels.

She focused, she just had to push through the discomfort and then... She noticed...

The bed... did it seem higher?

The room... why did it look so different...?

Rebecca dragged her hands through her hair, taking in her surroundings. Everything was getting bigger!

No... she understood. She was getting smaller...

Why was this happening!? Had her calculations been so off? Was it a side effect of the formula mixing with the alcohol? At first, she thought she would shrink out of her clothes, but the spilled liquid was forcing her attire to quickly catch up with her dwindling body!

She had to get to the door, she needed help! She needed...

The tipsy woman halted as a wave of lethargy and exhaustion wash over her, she suddenly felt more drunk. Like her tinier form was unable to deal with the amount of wine her fully sized self had consumed.

Before she could take another step, her vision shifted out of focus and the woman collapsed in a heap.

Rebecca had awoken later. Much later. 

The sound of the party was gone. Her head throbbed with the worst hangover she had had in years. The first light of dawn was creeping into the room... It was so quiet.

She heard movement above her and... faint snoring?

Rebecca realized there was a sleeping form not far above her. Tanya! She hadn't discovered the shrunken blonde before she had crawled into bed...

The now diminutive scientist clapped a hand to her mouth, she was suddenly so embarrassed, so humiliated. Her other hand clutched, unbidden, at her stomach as she felt nausea wash over her.

Rebecca didn't even want to consider how small she was, yet as far as she could tell she was little taller than a small child! The scientist cursed her drunkenness, and tried to think of a way she could explain this to the much taller brunette...

While her head ached beyond reckoning, the shrunken woman was now regretting the fairly regular jokes she had made about Tanya being on the shorter side...
