Not A Toy 058

"Let-me-go! Stop! Are you listening?!" Came the squeaks from the shrunken teacher.

Her protests repeated as she was whisked through the air, her brunette locks flying about, the teacher's stomach lurched as she was moved at far greater speed than she expected. Sophie was no clumsy, lumbering beast after all - and moved with all the deliberate speed of a fully sized adult, which was uncomfortably fast for the now tiny woman.

The answer to Jenna's question was mostly 'no'. Right now, Jenna's distress came second to Sophie's other priorities - she had to secure the device, and she needed time to make sure these two women weren't going to go blabbing - which was why she was doing this. The redhead shuffled her position, twisting to face her bag, with a giant hand she pried the opening wider, she shifted Jenna in her grip, clasping the tiny woman with her thumb and index finger once more.

Jenna's protests turned to a yell; of anger and fear as she saw where she was being lifted. The woman's bag now lay beneath her and as it was held firmly open, the teacher couldn't escape the thought that it looked like the maw of some horrible creature, ready to swallow her up. She knew what was about to happen, but her mind refused to accept it - how had her afternoon turned to this?!

Jenna's legs thrashed, her arms swung wildly, clasping at the woman's fingers, trying now to hold on. She couldn't fathom how easily this had happened, she had gone from waiting to interview an applicant, to shrinking out of her clothes, to trying to reach a door handle, and now she was being plucked up like some errant belonging! Her eyes landed on the contents of the purse below, they looked huge, enormous! The idea of being discarded among them was too much to even imagine!

Maisie ran from the sight, fear and panic spurred her on - her willingness to trust the stranger now making her feel like a complete fool. As she fled, wheeling behind one of the table's legs, what she saw hammered home that rising self-chastisement. It was a horrifying sight - Sophie held Jenna like she was nothing, and in a moment she was dangling over the bag, her tiny body thrashing and squeaking. Maisie felt helpless watching it, she couldn't imagine how Jenna felt!

Her eyes drifted to the device that lay behind the giantess, and Maisie swallowed nervously. Could she do something with that? Could she help? Even if she could, what would it achieve? That device seemed too unpredictable... The tiny graduate tried to clear her thoughts, think calmly, think rationally, but it was too much - the panic, fear and anxiety was wild now, and she had little hope of taming it. The youngest of the trio shook her head; no, she was too little to hope to do anything with that device, and her tampering from earlier had only made things worse. Maisie's head darted about, she had to run, she had to hide - the instincts of a scared animal took over the girl's mind.

Jenna struggled. Jenna squirmed. Jenna protested. And in response to this, Sophie groaned, with all the discontent of an annoyed parent - the feeling of this tiny human fidgeting in her grip didn't instil empathy, but only compounded her irritation.

"Hey! Don't you dare! You can't just-..."

Sophie cut off the shrunken teacher. "God, you're annoying!" Her frustration getting the better of her.

"J-Just listen to me and-..."

The woman's words turned to a gasp, then a shriek as she felt the giantess' grip loosen, and the maw of the purse rushed up to consume her.

I wonder if Maisie will try to run and hide before Sophia turns her attention away from Jenna and towards her! It's getting quite suspenseful for the little ones!

I do, and I can't wait to see if I'm right!

Nicole Corcoran

Oh no! Do you think so?

Ivana

Extremely so! I hope she'll be ok in that purse, she could be in real trouble there.

Nicole Corcoran

She is quite tiny, isn't she!

Ivana

The sense of scale for one, Jenna's expression is perfect, and her body language is dynamically frantic. It's amazing!

Nicole Corcoran

Thank you!! So glad you're excited! What do you enjoy about those ones in particular? <3

Ivana

I'm so THRILLED to see the continuation of this series! Renders one and four are phenomenal! <3

Nicole Corcoran

Too hard to resist the classics! And thank you so much for the kind words! <3

Ivana

Ah, putting the shrunken woman in a handbag... Classic, but still as effective. Alas, the lasergun is probably too heavy for Maisie... She can't use it against Sophie. Too bad for her. :3 Nice work, Dwindling Iva, keep it up. ^^

Thank you! And agree re cartoonish - I guess I find a lot of stories out there focus on characters acting in pretty 'absurd' ways (not a critique, just an observation) and I like to think a point of difference for my content is that things are a touch more 'grounded'. Again, not saying one is inherently better than the other - just different! <3

Ivana

Cartoonish isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Christopher Lloyd has made an entire career at it (lol), but like everything, it has its place. As detailed and intimate as this story is, the more human approach will always work better and you succeed at it masterfully. As far as frames go, the first and last are both fantastic and exciting angles!

Bloodthirstybutcher

Very fair point!

Ivana

Oh I think teeny tiny Jenna would be the unlucky one in that situation

XtheTank

Oh dear! That would really just seal Maisie as the unluckiest gal in the world, right?

Ivana

Ah! These are such kind words! Thank you! Its important to me that my characters don't come across as cartoonish or absurd in their motivations or actions (within reason.) and so her being believable is SO wonderful to hear! Did you have a favourite frame or moment here?

Ivana

Is Maisie going to activate the ray but miss Sophie and hit the purse shrinking Jenna even more?

XtheTank

Sophie makes me think of some of my favorite “mad” scientists like Peter Cushing’s Dr. Frankenstein or even Jeffrey Combs’ Herbert West. She isn’t cartoonishly evil or manic in any way, she’s just so obsessed with her work that everything else in life is just a distracting nuisance. She definitely has her quirks… I mean, just leaving a device like that lying around shows some level of negligence, but it’s clear that she’s passionate about what she’s doing. I don’t even know if you can call her a “villain” in the traditional sense because it’s hard to say that any one of us would react any different in her position. It makes for a very compelling character and she comes through very well in your writing.
