50 More Reflections! 21-30

Enjoy the next set! I'm on 33/50 right now so the rest of the reflections will have to wait until tomorrow. For now, enjoy!

D1 and D5 - 1 - Birdsong - An Entire Flock of Birds - Black: This reflection binds the wielder to an entire flock of birds that straddle the gap between worlds past and present. With every cycle, a new type of bird joins this grand migration and each carries with it the songs of their origin world. Birdsong’s wielder opens themself up, willingly, to the bird-like wisdom of those that came before by being functionally welcomed to the flock. Users of this reflection could use the abilities of the flock to teleport in a storm of birds, balance on air, and take flight across the space between.

D1 - 1 - Qilin’s Plume - Feather - Green: An outline of a creature. A theoretical beast that existed in myth and rumor across worlds. This reflection, bizarrely provided to us by the demonic court of beasts, represents the theoretical shape of that creature. By taking the plume into oneself, they are imbued with aspects of the immortal beast. Wreathed in ethereal flame and now possessing hooves, the wielder of this reflection represents a theoretical beast that has somehow escaped the gaze of the demonic court.

X179 - Laundry Basket - Basket - Red: A basket once used for carrying clothes. As the battle raged past, the bearer of this tool turned to the river and began to pick blades from the battlefield instead.

This weapon is meant to be worn on the back. As the wielder picks up weapons and places them within the basket, an arm hangs in the air behind the wielder holding that weapon. At no point can the wielder ever reach an excess number of arms or weapons to what can fit within the basket.

T4 - 1 - A Gift of Moments - Food - Clear: It begins with an innocuous apple. By eating it in its entirety, time seems to slow and the world seems to glow. Every single moment seems to drip with nectar and the skin of reality becomes flushed and vibrant. And the glow fades as all things do. Now, in place of the apple sits two apples. For those that submit themselves to the eternal feast, this reflection provides an unlimited banquet as well as all the time needed to fully enjoy it. But with each use of this reflection, the consumption requirements increase yet again, only to reset at the start of the next day.

392 - Chitinhead: While Our Bones Burn - Gigantic Skeleton and Stage - White: In times of excess or times of famine the need for the show to reach a bigger and larger audience only intensifies. In the lull between battles, flame still spilled across the surface of the world, forming sparkling rivers around the stage the warriors built. A skeleton wreathed in pyrotechnic flame sat at the back of the stage, fists raised defiantly to the heavens as the band in the foreground cast their shrill music across the wastes.

Usage of this Reflection involves the summoning and control of a gigantic, skeletal parade float as well as the pyrotechnic canons attached to the front of the stage. This construction was once made of cloth and wood, but now is made of actual demon-cauterized calcium and hell-rending marrow.

CODA - Pillar of the Underworld: Cistern of Fallen Worlds - Spear - Any: It should be noted that the custodian does not exactly know how to categorize this Reflection. It seems to be built from the concept of the coda itself. This spear, a diorama of the coda grows in strength as the apocalypse worsens. As one's understanding of the great polyhedron expands, so too does this spear in power and intricacy.

101 - Lightstar - Spear and Shield - White: A glowing shard of hope that, when held tight, projects lines of a shield from between the fingers borne into the shape of a brilliant starpoint. A lance of pure light divines its power from the stone, and the more one uses the light and the more fire one absorbs the more brightly the stone shines. The wielder can use this weapon to create facsimiles of pure light, to move along lightbeams and to clothe oneself in holy fire. But, for a short time after invoking one of the greater abilities of the lightstar its brilliance will wink out leaving the wielder with an utterly mundane stone.

X153 - Hyperdense “Heavensfaller” Bulwark - Armor - Red and Black: Armor reinforced for re-entry, for striking the earth with all the might of the shattered heavens. Each layer of this armor is covered with heavy ordinance meant to reinforce and restrict movement. With each layer violently ejected from the armor, the user gains mobility and accuracy in exchange for firepower. These suits of armor were built with the firepower to slay gods, and fired with force enough to slay the earth.

170 - Tempered Tragedy - Curse - White: This reflection comes paired with a weapon of the wielder’s choosing, an ornate, impressive armament that does not betray the insidious curse that runs through this reflection. Within the wielder begins to brew an aspect of an ancient mythological creature. Vampire, dragon, werewolf, goblin, troll, whatever monster rises to the mind of the wielder most clearly is associated with the curse woven into this reflection. As one fights, they may willingly invoke the governing curse gaining aspects of the chosen monster in barter for their humanity. The curse may recede at first, but as it takes a deeper hold within the mind of the wielder the might of their chosen beast becomes indistinguishable from their core self.

D5 - 6 - Fairytale for the Songbird: May Not One Life Be Wasted - Staff - Yellow: A staff hewn from the hopes of a girl watching the world from afar. She dreamed of different scenarios and worlds where she too could play a role. But no matter how thoroughly she crafted her dream, the worlds and weapons she created would fade into puffy memories along with the simulated sun in that empty sky.

With this staff, one can summon creatures and objects from fairytales. Cartoonish legends that defy reality that would be laughable to some but naive or clownish to most. Special effects, pyrotechnics and fireworks that would prove impractical in real battle. The tools to make any fight into an illustration of legend.

The songbird dreamed of many things. However, no matter how much hope she held she could not imagine a reality in which a weapon like this was ever formed.

Comments

And then with the blue and white armor describing a crushing void outside the world... would that be the "outside" facing the CODA, or truly outside of that great polyhedron containing the flame? Well, it's all speculation, but I love the thought that's gone into the cosmogony that can support these kinds of ideas. Great job, Jay!

Oh-ho, the CODA description; that seems to give some weight to the thought I've had. Since the 3 attributes of a world make up a triangle, there are multiple worlds with different attributes, and the CODA is always described as being "below" the world, I had wondered if the universe might be something like a geodesic dome (or polyhedron) with the CODA at it's center. And then therefore, if the CODA might be something of a metaworld, a great central flame, since it contains aspects of other worlds within it, bursting out as other flames do when they're excited. Neat!
