Dev Update #41

Hi all, hope you've had a good week. Quick update:

I've been continuing with a lot of the long term planning I was doing last week and that's going really well. I'm still looking to complete my January priorities by the end of the month but in the meantime I've been having so much fun with planning out some of the finer details of the story and some of the events that are going to happen in E4/E5. Really excited to start working properly on E4 but there are a bunch of things that need to be sorted out first. Please see the long end of year update for more details.

I've probably been spamming your notifications with the E3 survey review this week. We're almost a third of the way through and I'll continue doing daily posts for the rest of the questions. The survey is a bit chunky so we it might take us two weeks to get through every question. If you'd prefer to read it all in one go just remember that it will be sorted into a folder in my post history that you can look at after it's all done. The raw data will also be made available to UV and IR subs once we've gone through every question. There are loads of comments/questions at the end and I won't be able to go through every one but I'll try to answer any recurring questions/themes. Thanks again for all your great feedback - positive or critical, it helps me massively.

Hope you have a great week!

Thanks for this feedback, Daniel. Appreciate your thoughts and thanks for the kind words. While I agree that the appearance rankings are influenced by something else, I think they're influenced by personality more than sexual events. Some of the highest rated girls have zero lewd scenes so far (Taylor is ranked 3rd, Dr. Riley 4th and Katie 7th). So here we have three girls without erotic scenes who are ranked above Lydia who you can have 2 sex scenes and a bj scene with already. But that doesn't necessarily prove you wrong - maybe they'd be rated even higher if they did have lewd scenes. I don't inherently disagree with your point but I don't think it's a major factor right now. In regards to personality, it was very much a goal of mine to make everyone's personality different and I don't expect there to be many players who like every single character, and I think that's a good thing. The reason there are so many love interests is because I want Elmwood to feel like a real university with unique characters. It would feel a little hollow if everyone had the same personality. Sure I could make the game's love interests just be 18 flirty and horny cheerleaders like Lydia and Chelsea but I think that sort of homogeneity would feel fake. The way I see it, the more unique each girl feels the more real they feel.

You said you welcome positive OR critical feedback, so I am gonna give you some of both. And, depending on how you receive this, I may not be participating in polls, discussions, etc, in the future. My intention is not to attack or insult in any way. So, first, you're doing a great job and I appreciate the effort put into the game. I analyze everything I see, and there are good and bad observations about anything and everyone, so don't think I don't see how great the game concept is, the appeal of the various character archetypes, etc. Currently the game is about 85% on the good side, which is outstanding. You have a ton to be proud of. I think every single LI is visually attractive, but you're going to have a hard time getting straight, unbiased answers from guys. The look and concept is outstanding - don't over-react to polls. You don't need feedback to change the good things you're already doing - they aren't broken, so don't try to fix them. As for the negative feedback: 1. I think the Appearance poll is more an exercise in psychology, than valid feedback on the character's appearance. I commented to you already about how there is clear bias towards LIs with more interactions and heavier bias towards sexual interactions. It seems that you should give each LI their time in the sun, so to speak, before putting too much stock in such rankings. (Or, even asking such questions in polls.) They're probably not particularly useful until there are more interactions and progress with ALL the LIs. 2. I think a lot of guys are giving negative feedback about Chloe and Jordan as characters and/or Love Interests, not so much their appearance. In general, those two are probably gonna appeal to a very niche audience. Given their orientation, it seems odd that they are Main LIs, at all. I think you would get thunderous applause if you swapped them for Kat and another side character. But, they haven't really had their time in the sun yet, either. 3. Having interactions with Nina in Dr. Novotná's class makes her a little more frustrating to deal with because of "Intimidating Presence." In general, I think she's a low ROI character that will hurt interactions with other LIs, due to Rebel. (Which I am sure you're aware of and planning on.) Also, she is probably the least visually attractive and the least likeable personality of all the LIs. I would think she is gonna be a hard pass for a lot of guys. I would bet you would get an extremely high approval rate of swapping her for Kat as an LI, making her a side chick. 4. Dr. Novotná is very visually attractive, despite the Appearance poll. So, don't alter her appearance, please! The problem there is with her personality and lack of interaction. I feel like she is gonna be domineering, which is another niche personality. 5. Niche personalities are a running theme, here. I would suggest that niche personality types make better optional side characters, than main LIs.

It is refreshing to hear you are doing long-term planning. Gives me much confidence in this awesome story continuing.
