april postcard wip!! +

hey y'all!! sorry it's taken me so long to show you the april postcard..my executive dysfunction has been throwing hands these last couple weeks so my brain feels like oatmeal BUT finally! I was able to get this bad boy started and I'm very excited about it :')

idk what I want to do for the background...definitely wanna do the frame (gonna find a fancy rococo frame to reference properly), but idk if I want to do the table/wall set up or just have it on a plain white background. Maybe a simple wallpaper pattern? Like grand-millennial stripes vibe?? Do I want more foliage coming in from the edges? HMMMMM we shall see!

I've been taking Nat Andrewson's Domestika course (which I can't recommend enough), and it's made me just accept the fact that I love doing lineart, I don't like doing work without it, and I can, in fact, still achieve a lovely painterly vibe while retaining my yummy yummy lines. I'm playing around a lil more with line weight than I normally do, which I'm also really enjoying!! I keep trying out stuff from other artists that I love/admire, experimenting with their styles, but I always seem to come back to loving lineart, so I think I should just cement that as a pillar of my own personal tastes in my work. I tried one version where I painted over the red lineart, to simulate that whole "painting over your red lineart/underpainting" traditional vibe that I love, but I don't like how it translates digitally :/

The flowers I referenced from a photo I found on Pinterest, and then I just added more flowers coming out of it to frame the little dude I added leaning against it. What if I just put these little guys everywhere. They might be a fun way for me to work on landscapes/still lifes hehehe >:)

Also looking at this photo, I might adjust one of the peonies, and add some white blooms to break up all the greens of the stems...My relationship with my work is always so tumultuous so anytime I get these little periods of ~smooth sailing~ I feel like I really have to make the most of it before I hate looking at my drawings again ;;

Happy Tuesday!! I have an audition this afternoon, and then an art date with Megan tomorrow (YAY), and then my mom is coming into town on Thursday!!! Hooray!!!

xoxo Cheyenne

yes! linework is the best :-) I always find it challenging to preserve my own inner voice in the direction I wanna go w/ my craft when there’s so much incredible art on the internet that I’m inspired by & shines brightly.. I often find myself falling into comparison and then I’m like, k nope gotta take a step back & get offline n’ focus on staying attuned with myself for a bit haha. So many voices and stimulation, phew, what an adventure. (felt called to share this!) — this piece is coming along awesomely, n’ is so cuuuute!

Love the little dude!

My god, I love this! I love the idea of the frame being grounded on a table, but I also love the idea of some vibey wallpaper. Decisions are hard, man. Regardless of whatever background you decide to go with, I can't wait to get mine and add it to my Cheyenne postcard wall collage. :)
