Yes, totally agree! There's sincerity and also just a general willingness to connect really deeply with one person within a larger social setting (like a party). And yeah, so much of what people don't like re: flirting comes down to them just not vibing with the person for hard-to-pin-down reasons that they misattribute to specific actions.

As someone who's partner is autistic I can attest to the fact that they can be fantastic flirts. "Autistic Rizz" is a running joke on Tik Tok but I've definitely seen some truth in it. There's a sincerity to interactions that can be very endearing to people. On the opposite end I've seen several occasions where someone flirting has completely gone over their head.
Romance definitely needs to embrace a bit of camp/sincerity. The different between swooning and cringing for many people is whether or not they find the character attractive 😅
