Rio De Janeiro[2009]

–Jamie Bell–

He looked out of the shack, which had holes in its roof, bleeding sunlight into the otherwise dark space, as he had his Dimensional Energy cloak around him, running on his Personal Dimensional Energy reserves, because that was the most optimal way right now.

He did not know what calibre bullets they had in that helicopter, but this shield has proven to withstand strikes from the Staff of the Living Tribunal, provided he reinforced it with the unbreakable image of Captain America’s unbreakable shield.

He flinched minutely, turning around, to find Bruce Banner, with his finger outstretched, poking the Dimensional Energy armour, locking eyes with him before the scientist coughed awkwardly and retracted his hand, mumbling while avoiding eye contact, “Just curious, that’s all.”

“Dr.Banner, I can take you to a safe place right now. Come with me if you want to live.” For some godforsaken reason, he had to choose this exact moment to blurt out that dialogue.

“Did,” Bruce began as he was the one who averted eye contact this time, instead pretending to look out of the shack, “Did you just quote Terminator to me?”

Before he could answer that question, he flinched and took a few steps back as gunfire hit the shack, punching holes through the rusted metal.

“Look, they are here for me. You should leave. I’ll be fine.” Doctor Banner, with the oh so cliché sacrificial play here. Fortunately, he had his eyes dead set on the Master’s robes, so he was not going to leave here without a Gamma Empowered Fighting Machine.

“I can take you somewhere safe, so please—”

“I can’t!” He looked at Banner incredulously. Why would he say something like that while they were getting boxed in? He could hear the ever so silent footsteps of the mercenaries gaining ground, going around the shacks, probably to burst in from behind. Classic ambush tactics.

“There is something in my house, right over there. I just need a couple of minutes to–”

“Fine.” He sighed explosively,  “Just point me to your house.” No need to tell the good doctor that he was being stalked, extensively, for the past couple of days.

He grabbed hold of Banner, extending the Dimensional Energy cloak to his body as well, making the doctor look at his hands in awe and amazement, “It feels... warm.”

“You know, doctor, there’s a pretty good chance they will just outright destroy your house once they see us running towards it.”

“That’s fine. I want it destroyed completely as well.”

He shrugged, “Suit yourself. Now, hang on tight.”

With that, he mentally commanded on his personal relic, something that seemed to be tailor made for someone like him, the Chi Reaper, and amped all his stats to eleven. Now holding onto a significantly lighter Doctor Banner, he ran, bursting through the shacks, just as the mercs behind them broke down one of the metal sheets holding the whole shack together.

Him bursting through one wall and their breaking down another wall seemed to be the last straw as the shack collapsed on the mercs, as surprised grunts and yelps reached his ears.

Ah, shit! He forgot to mention the important thing to Banner, “Doctor, this cloak is bulletproof, do you understand me? You need to control yourself because you turning into Big Green is not going to do us any favours."

“Okay, alright,” Bruce said, but his worries were not abated because a single bullet was yet to be fired from that helicopter, despite the constant buzzing noise only getting stronger. He expected them to escalate from tranq darts to bullets to high calibre weapons soon enough, once they had confirmation that his cloak shielded them all.

Standing so close to Bruce, especially in a situation so stressful, he could actually feel the brimming volcano of energy, just waiting to bubble to the surface, before exploding in a spectacular shower of Gamma that held the potential to not just kill but outright vaporise him.

It was…humbling.

“There! Bruce pointed at his house, which was only marginally better than the previous shack they were hiding in. It looked as if a shipping container was sheared in half, before being used as a house, with a flimsy piece of metal acting as the roof.

He nodded, jumping with all his might and being empowered by the Chi Reaper? He could jump a lot, enough to cover the two storey distance between the ground and Bruce’s house in a single leap.

His hand thrust into the metal sheet, as he used it as footing to send Bruce in through the window, the cloak protecting him from the broken window. “Do whatever you have to, fast!”

The urgency was quite real this time, because he had to switch to normal Dimensional Energy for his cloak, as the Chi stored within the Chi reaper ran out within minutes of sustained use.

It also had an odd limitation that it could not be charged halfway, as in it had to be drained completely before he could use his Chi stores to recharge it. The cloak around Bruce’s body was gone, obviously, as soon as they lost contact, but the one on his body, it was not as fluid as the one he could make with his own stores.

It was a logical decision to switch energy sources because Chi was being pumped into the Chi reaper right now, to maintain his boosted stats.

He looked up as a bright light blinded him, coming likely from the helicopter. It was good that he still had his enhanced senses spell up, helping him pinpoint the helicopter’s location.

He grinned, as he looked up, as two swords made up of dimensional energy shot out of his hands, as he prepared to just jump, or at least make it look like he was going to jump. There was no way he was going to leave Bruce here, and they would not get the time to flee if that Helicopter was just overhead, circling around.

That is, if he had to keep the existence of portals a secret. If that was not a requirement, he could have escaped with Bruce in the factory itself.

The first bullet hit him in the leg, the impact feeling like a dull punch, as if someone was joking around with him, which was reassuring, because he had not yet used the Captain America visualisation yet, which would increase its durability by an order of magnitude.

A warning shot, then.

“What’s taking so long?” He yelled over the sound of the helicopter blades whirring as the helicopter was coming closer to them, while he could also spot multiple cars full of mercenaries arriving at the bottom, all with guns pointed at him.

“Bruce? Dr.Banner? What is– Oh, for God’s sake!” he said, frustrated as he jumped through the wall and into the very small place that Bruce, sadly, called his house for months. Bruce jumped a bit, as he was looking at this computer, which had a stereotypical loading screen.

Walking over, he confirmed for one last time, “You want the data gone, yes?”

Bruce nodded, as he placed his hand on Bruce, extending his cloak, flimsy as it was, to the man, as his hand, now not covered in Dimensional Energy armour, sparked with electricity before he plunged his hand into the computer before letting loose a moderately high amount of electricity into it, sparking the whole damned thing.

Shaking his numb hand, he let Chi from the Chi Reaper pour into his hands, which healed it right away as he grinned at Banner, “See? All done. Now, let’s get you out of here.”

Bruce flinched back, hands covering his eyes as the helicopter was now level with the house.

“But how?!” Bruce yelled as he took one look at the computer, and then, as if a bulb lit over his head, he grabbed it and threw it right at the helicopter with all his might.

“Stay tight!” He told Bruce before throwing him to the floor, as he jumped, following the computer, only this time, with his signature Spider Arms bursting out of his back as he stabbed them in the hull of the helicopter.

One of them stabbed itself in the rotor part, cracking itself slightly but successfully completing the job of disabling the helicopter.

He flinched minutely as he felt guns hitting him from all sides, small dull impacts that added up over time. The pilot continued to scream at him, in anger or fear, he did not know, before he had to knock the fellow out, because of the gun he was taking from his holster.

He took the only occupant of the helicopter out before jumping off the now ruined government property, landing on the side of the shack structure, stabbing into the metal containers to stop his descent.

The gunfire stopped instantly, as a scene straight from the horror movies greeted the mercenaries, as his ears picked up on the rapidly retreating sound of another helicopter, which was not audible to him because of the much closer and much louder source of noise here.

“Huh,” he said to himself before dropping down on the ground, and just bulldozing through dozens of mercenaries, who immediately began unloading all of their ammo on him, disregarding the life of the pilot, who he had to shield.

No biggy. Just a slight inconvenience for him as he made short work of all those people within minutes, leaving behind knocked out, groaning, grunting, swearing, and defeated people.

Throwing the pilot down, he leaned towards him, scaring him as he spoke, “Tell Ross that Banner is under my protection.”

Knocking out the pilot, he jumped up, startling Bruce, who was peeking through the holes in his shack/container/sad home, “Ah!”

“Come on, Bruce, we have places to be,” He informed him before waving his hands mid air, opening a portal.

“Wh-What?” Bruce mumbled, then yelped as he rolled his eyes and pushed Bruce through the portal, finally arriving back at Kamar Taj.

“Mission accomplished!” He grinned.

Now, where were those Robes of his?
