And if you're wondering why I’m asking, well, there are two possible directions this could go:
Option 1: Maveline is real.
In this version, Alain has actually been transmigrated into the world of the game, this isn’t a simulation or dream, it's his new reality. He doesn’t have any plot armor, so he's vulnerable, and he’ll have to play by Maveline’s rules. The story would gradually lead to the two of them ending up together, with all the psychological tension and stuff.
Option 2: Maveline isn’t real.
Here, the synapse band powering the game burns out or disconnects midway through Maveline’s family gathering, and Alain snaps back to the real world. And then things happen with his ingame behaviour overlapping with reality and all but he doesn't end up with her.
