Phoenix Hawk LAM Concept

Before I ship off to Gencon, how about I drop some concepts for the imminent TRO 3025?

Let's kick it off with the Phoenix Hawk LAM. To push a little variety, I took up this one as the basis for the 3 in the book, then assigned the other two to Marco Mazzoni (Wasp) and Patrick Wagesreither (Stinger). Some of you may know Patrick on Instagram as PatsoCatso.

I wanted these LAMs to have a big more realistic thought put into their mechanics than in the past, but not so far that we sacrifice how we want them to look. The WoB LAMs for example were quite a bit more mechanically literal, but that didn't leave as much room for visual magic. And you certainly need a lot of magic to make these things work both as a mech and a fighter jet haha.

Don't ask me how exactly that nose cone can fold away internally while in mech mode. It just does, because it must. Note the mechs head is still there, tucked away up top.
Each LAM will transform slightly differently. Though most will do similar things for the legs and arms.

I love LAMs, and this design is beautiful!

Dude, that looks great. I like the way you did the main gun more than the hand-held that the unseen has

Joshua Bressel

I agree, I'd rather they only have one mode, or two, not three. give them a solid purpose with interesting tradeoffs.

This is crazy. Since 1994, when I first was exposed to battletech with TROs 3025 and 3050, I thought the Phoenix Hawk LAM had the large laser in the arm based on the art. When I first saw this picture I thought it was awesome, but wondered why the large laser was moved to a Maruader like mount on top of the fuselage. Then I went and double checked Sarna... and the large laser is indeed in the torso. This looks awesome. You accomplished your goal of making it a little more realistic without sacrificing the "visual magic". You definitely enhanced the visual magic.

Not going to lie I think the LAMs were a neat idea but I think didn't fits any more to what BattleTech had become. But still think a Pure mech built of the the AirMech Idea. No changing modes. It just one Super Jumpy/flight mode. I guess you can mostly do it using Para Wings and Improved Jump Jets... Anyway! A great bit of art as always, thank you for sharing.
