Marauder Gold

Interesting bit of trivia, it's been about 7.5 years since this Marauder was first designed and sculpted. We were gearing up for all this craziness that far back!

But, time flies, and our skills improve. While even some of our previous kickstarter mechs already get refinements when being reused, our GoAC era mechs especially need full work overs to bring them up in quality any time they get a fresh use. With the recent merc force packs and some IWM releases we've done this for mechs like the Griffin, Locust, and Thunderbolt.

The Marauder sculpt predates all of those, one of the first off the line before being thrown on ice for well, you know the reasons haha.

It's extra helpful when we get to tweak our sculpts after seeing them in plastic. In the Marauder's case we got to see the regular sculpt and the Grayson version. I noticed a lot of people say they prefer how the Grayson model came out with its different details.
Funny enough that wasn't a different sculpt version, only a repose. But due to early models needing plenty of fixes to print and cast well, our manufacturer Liya made adjustments, and due to how the models work they'd have adjusted them both independently, leading to those differences.
My main takeaway was that people liked a slightly bulkier AC5 barrel so I worked that in.

Other types of fixes here include widening crevices that were too subtle, exaggerating armor plates that need to stick out, adding more polygon density to curved surfaces, and rebuilding details that didn't match the art as good. I also kept the indication for optional side and top glass panels on the cockpit, but made them better appear as the simple armor plates that they truly are.

So anyway, have this eye burning 3D render I whipped up to celebrate finishing the task. You're free to share this around on the web. Enjoy!

Interestingly I did this unrelated to the destiny scale Marauder, but knowing it would help with it. Whatever they have at Adepticon isn't this model. Luckily they say it's a prototype run because I see big issues with it.

Anthony Scroggins

Yeah, he had BIG plans..

TIM STRAUVEN

You sneaky devil, NOW I understand why you needed a higher-detail Marauder sculpt!

pokefan548

NGL, I do wish this mech was in the AS boxset.

I've always loved the Marauder, but it played second-fiddle to other mechs. The one that I've never liked was the Marauder-II, but my reasons are odd for this; I always thought it made no sense that the Marauder-II and Marauder IIC are different mechs. Why wasn't the II identical to the IIC, but just uses IS parts? That's why I use the new IIC for both.

5SS and the one with the Big Iron AC are still out there waiting, though :)

Jarod DePastene

Correct. :)

Have to assume you enjoy that we made the popular 5SE plastic mini then.

Anthony Scroggins

At least in the case of the Marauder you really shouldn't sweat it. We deliberately put those panels there to work as glass for those that want to. At the time my popular fanart marauder had a lot of glass, while the glaug has only the front, so management said to accommodate both preferences.

Anthony Scroggins

I'll be honest, my favorite part of the redesign is the underchin FLIR pod.

I need a museum scale Marauder next to my Wammy now.

As to the Marauder; both poses are great. The Greyson Carlyle one just looks more "dynamic". That wide stance and "come at me bro" look with the arms splayed out like a dual-wielding old west gunfighter..... **chef's kiss** But the Command Lance version has a "running to the sound of the guns" look to it that is equally bitchin' :)

Jarod DePastene

On the subject of the new Thunderbolt... Yes. Just... yes. I'd love to see more variants of that mech, and I really hope it ends up gaining the popularity it always deserved. TBolt has always been my favorite mech, and I about lost my shit when I saw it was going to be in AGoAC. :)

Jarod DePastene

It can be either a personal Mod of the Pilot or a custom painted shiny/glass panel on top of the armour. It is a similar "issue" to the Thunderbolt's Cockpit hatch.

James Abbot-Cole

Cripes, never even occurred to me when I painted that Marauder that those panels weren't cockpit glass, but now thinking back I remember all the references to the Marauder just having the front glass in the books.... Now I have mixed feelings about my Marauder, which has the best cockpit glass effect I've been able to get yet, just apparently painted on armor panels....

Although I never was a great fan of the Marauder I really like the new „Maro“.

Jürgen Frey

Beautiful!

The Marauder has always been a personal favorite of mine. This new render looks fantastic.
