Interesting bit of trivia, it's been about 7.5 years since this Marauder was first designed and sculpted. We were gearing up for all this craziness that far back!
But, time flies, and our skills improve. While even some of our previous kickstarter mechs already get refinements when being reused, our GoAC era mechs especially need full work overs to bring them up in quality any time they get a fresh use. With the recent merc force packs and some IWM releases we've done this for mechs like the Griffin, Locust, and Thunderbolt.
The Marauder sculpt predates all of those, one of the first off the line before being thrown on ice for well, you know the reasons haha.
It's extra helpful when we get to tweak our sculpts after seeing them in plastic. In the Marauder's case we got to see the regular sculpt and the Grayson version. I noticed a lot of people say they prefer how the Grayson model came out with its different details.
Funny enough that wasn't a different sculpt version, only a repose. But due to early models needing plenty of fixes to print and cast well, our manufacturer Liya made adjustments, and due to how the models work they'd have adjusted them both independently, leading to those differences.
My main takeaway was that people liked a slightly bulkier AC5 barrel so I worked that in.
Other types of fixes here include widening crevices that were too subtle, exaggerating armor plates that need to stick out, adding more polygon density to curved surfaces, and rebuilding details that didn't match the art as good. I also kept the indication for optional side and top glass panels on the cockpit, but made them better appear as the simple armor plates that they truly are.
So anyway, have this eye burning 3D render I whipped up to celebrate finishing the task. You're free to share this around on the web. Enjoy!
