Visigoth Concept Sketch

Here's the Visigoth sketch everyone saw on the box art prototype. Usually they'd put a final lineart piece on the boxes but we don't quite have the model done yet, let alone lines.

For a little peek into how our design team has been going last year, we'd have likely had all kickstarter 3D assets done already, but as CGL announcements and releases show we really went hard on straight to retail products such as the new Beginners Box, AS Box, coming Merc packs, coming Urbie lance pack, and even more.

While it was extremely hard being so close to finishing this huge project, yet consistently refocused, I think it's understandable that the bosses wanted there to be a trickle of new product to keep players engaged rather than leaving a multi year gap between releases.

Now as for the Visigoth. To me the original looked a lot like the U-2 spy plane, so I started by working more of that feeling into it, along with a bit of B-1 Lancer. Word from above called for a broader fuselage, much to my dismay and dreams for a skinny boy. You can see that in the widening out midsection that leads into the wings.
The wings have a degree of swing wing capability by the way, more logically allowing for that original straight wing look.
More U-2 influence was growing forward the wing pods and making them weapon omnipod bays, in the way they were surveillance bays on the U-2.
For casting and style purposes, I did not attempt to have the tail elevators connect to the wing pods.

This image is free to share on the internet, though I'm keeping the post for patrons only as a reading treat for your support.

Enjoy!

3D render when?

More I think of it, so very few aerospace fighters should not have aome sort of variable geometry wing set up, you don’t need lift for a space launch, so the tubes should be “Battlestar Galactica” tight, and wings deploy after launch to position weapons

James Bixby

I did not the Visigoth to be frank, but once I read through the description, it makes total sense to me, i.e. one of the most common designs across the Clan toumans.

I like the widey boy

Hah. I'd rather make new ones to replace them.

Anthony Scroggins

Re-do the tripods.

Joe Wright

Definitely not moving on the mini haha.

The semi- swing wings (only the outer half can swing) reminds be a bit of the old Sukhoi SU-17 Fitter ground-attack fighter of the 1950s and 1960s.

I really like the omnipod design under the wings. Battletech has a history of some pretty strange aircraft designs. I think this is a great update to the Visigoth. I like the idea of variable geometry wings as an improved explanation of how this shape can achieve supersonic speeds.

Peter Shah

I’m interested to see how the other ASF would look. That is a beautiful piece.

Jeffery Smith

GOD the plane looks stunning, easily getting this badboy in the oncoming kickstarter

Kyokyodoka

Do you mean the fighters wings in lore can swing or that the actual mini will have movable wings?

OK, now that is a new take, that air frame has three engines, one each wind and one in the fuselage, cool. I like how the missile racks are tucked in and not exposed.
