Patton Concept Sketch

Here's a cool one I got to work on, the Patton tank. Coming soon to a Rec Guide near you.

My first pick would have been to contract one fan that already had a great Patton concept, but I couldn't get a timely reply so I dove in myself.

Regardless, once the point of deciding whether the autocannon is offset or not is decided the rest kind of draws itself. The original concept was good, just riddled with Escher lines and shapes.

Once again... literally all your team knows how to do is win.

Kind of an Apple's and Oranges comparison. Loose was illustrating a perspective line drawing as a stand-alone illustration. This image is a deliberate orthographic image with no perspective that is primarily a concept illustration for 3d sculptors. Compressed proportions come with the territory when making a 3d model. A raw cube rendered in orthographic the way we build things out in 3d in this view would look like a box/rectangle with a single line through it. Once the 3d model is done perspective renders and illustrations will highlight some of the details better.

Chris Lowrey

Loose did it better. Proportions and dimensions look compressed.

Yeah, that's coming from Ray Arrastia in the forums. I might've been bothered if the Rommel weren't so clearly a Patton with a slightly different loadout. If the Bulldog can have a LL or twin AC/2s or an LRM-20, the Patton can switch between an AC/10+flamer and an AC/20.

Carlos Sempere

I don't know myself, and don't personally mind either way, but it would make sense if CGL erased the Rommel and just made it a Patton variant loadout.

Anthony Scroggins

.....What?? The Rommel still exists, it just won't be shown until there's a model because it is essentially the exact same, just with a slightly different weapons loadout

Malintus

(Strange, Patreon seems to have some hiccups, cannot comment any other comment.) Apparently the Rommel is no more from CGLs PoV, because of the Nazi naming, only the Patton remains.

Steffen Knoll

Haha, unlikely to be one. If we even give it a model that'll just be adjusted in 3D.

Anthony Scroggins

Great sketch! Looking forward to the Rommel tank sketch.

james brown

Neat, just wanted to know how much that proverbial tree would get shaken up if any.

Malintus

In and out of setting logic would say we keep them the same. When it gets a mini it allows both to be largely WYSIWYG.

Anthony Scroggins

My only question is if the Rommel will look identical with a varied loadout or if there'll be some minor aesthetic changes to better tell them apart. Loving that sketch though!

Malintus

Ah, the Patton. The only 65 ton Lyran tank with a fusion engine from TRO3025. It had AC/10 and AC/20 variants.

Alex F

Always one of my favourite tanks. Just fantastic :)

The DRT

Can't wait to see it from another angle.

Kanrei13

Yeah the number of fixed chassis weapons really holds back many BT vees.

Anthony Scroggins

I went for offset. Basically the main turret shape is symmetrical, while the AC and LRM share the front face appropriately.

Anthony Scroggins

Hands down my favorite tank, it only does everything. If i had to fantasy change it, i woukd have removed the co axial LRM and put a Box Launcher in the back of the turret angled upward, and positioned the laser Co axial instead But I understand how much legacy look is important to this project. Good job

James Bixby

Maybe make the barrel a bit longer (not much more than 5% longer than it is now), but otherwise a very nice tank layout.

KaiserDunk

Looks great, but is the autocannon offset or not?
