Shogun Concept Sketch

Here's one of those funky ones that I know a lot of people have been wanting to see. The Shogun.

A few of the crew wanted to take a shot at this one, but I decided to work on it myself to give it a little more thorough job. Either way I knew I'd have to get hands on and go through revisions with the bosses.

The biggest goal for improvement was to find shapes to break up the smooth torso, as the fundamental shape is fairly important to the design, but plain and goofy on its own.
Also had to work up a good mixture of details for the legs, pulling from highly varying older versions.
It's both chunky and lanky at the same time, a true dad bod haha, but I think I got it there.

What do you think?

By all that is right in this galaxy. That is great looking.

William Janak

Always been a odd mech with its fat torso and anemic limbs. Had to equalize them some which leads to an overall chubby boy yes.

Anthony Scroggins

Looks a little too chubby

I get that the Falcon and Hornet would not make the cut, but the IMP? I am shocked! The IMP screams Wolf Dragoons.

Robert Moore

They wont be making the cut this time.

Anthony Scroggins

Has the Imp Falcon and Hornet been updated yet?

Robert Moore

That would be my preference, but a few of the bosses wanted the egg torso silhouette maintained.

Anthony Scroggins

More than not, and most sensibly, the shoulder weapon is the PPC. So I solidified that here.

Anthony Scroggins

It’s so beautiful

James don’t forget the hornet πŸ˜‰

The Shogun is one of my favorite Dragoon mechs. Don't know why, just took a liking to it years ago. I went ahead and modeled my own for personal use and printing (this official one is, of course, significantly superior to my own). I did the same for the Imp, because I decided to do both of my favorite Dragoon "uglies". However, if the Imp is on their list of mechs to rework for this, I'm all for it and eagerly await its reveal.

Richard Powell

This made me realize the only orginal dragoon mechs left are the falcon and imp. Stoked to see those.

James Bixby

I wonder if having a more defined seperate head would improve the lines. Draw some visual similarities to the crockett maybe?

James Bixby

Question! Because the Shogun was one of those with art that seemed confused about weapon type and placement (or, rather, art that confused us about the weapon type and placement), has the shoulder cylinder been officially "canonized" as the PPC? Like in TRO 3050, and not a missile launcher, like in Op: Klondike? The above suggests that the SRMs are now discrete launchers just above the hips instead of the odd "holes in armor" style of the original.

Richard Powell

I like the revised arms and the more defined waist. I kind of miss the more integrated SRM tubes I’m the torso. They added to its streamlined silhouette.

Peter Shah

I really like the hood - way more interesting than it was. The center torso reminds me of a Warhammer 40K Sentinel, but curved. However, I think the arms could use something new and unique. The perfectly round cylinders look a little out of place now.

Aaron Thurston

Dad bod? That is a chunky boy! I would like to see it’s 3d view to be able to really soak it in. Now if we get the hornet falcon and Imp the Wolf’s Dragoon sourcebook would be complete! πŸ˜‰

Robert Moore

Think this is one of the ones that will look better in 3D and the actual model. It's hard to give a good perspective in a sketch. Overall I like it.

Bolththrower

A vast improvement over the original, the upper body is spectacular its got suitably sized legs and the arms look great!
