Hermes II 3D Sculpt
Added 2022-05-21 07:50:28 +0000 UTC
And here's the 3D sculpt for the Hermes II, done by Eliza Gibbs.
Similar to the Gargoyle, the nose section will leave players the option to not paint it glass if they like having the "eyes" look on their mechs, while the main intention will be a full glass visor. I know this one will end up needing the Bishop "where is the glass" guide treatment haha.
And yes people, a Whitworth exists :)
This is the best Hermes I've ever seen. Love the flamer details, will look great with some paint.

Search Clint from the top of my feed and you'll find the sketch for it. 3D coming soon.

Have you ever done a Clint version?

Yep, I'd have stuck with the cylinder barrel too. As I recall, this one was a case of upper boss meddling.

I'm very happy with the sculps. It is the very reason why I came back to Battletech. I have very little in the way of extra income, and Anthony Scroggins is the only person that I have ever supported. Keep up the good work.

I personally find the flamer arm looks too busy ("perforated" canisters and nozzle) ; whilst I understand that keeping the same nozzle design as seen with the Firestarter and Vulcan visually links the models together, I would have preferred the sleeker flamer from the sketch. Ah well, nothing a hobby knife and some green stuff can't fix..

Well damn it, now I need to see the Whitworth!

Really glad for rectangular flamers, helps differentiate from a laser or recessed AC/2 at a quick glance

Haha Dan, the shadow hawk is indeed the most extreme leg spread of them all, but we haven't done any like that since that very first batch of GoAC minis. Though the upcoming AS Box locust comes close.
Like Bish says, we've gotta go a bit extreme on some to maintain variety. Leg mods are a little trickier, but it's at least fairly trivial to change the torso twist and shoulder elevations to get some pose variety when you're using multiple of a sculpt.
Bruce, we do have a few facing boondoggles in some early sculpts, and sometimes our manufacturer will change the facing without our say, but for the most part I feel our minis have a very clear facing. I face them on a roughly 3/5 bias to torso 2/5 bias to legs average. If we were going to strictly face something it would have to be legs, as torso facing is not what indicates a mechs facing in the game... but you can immediately tell that would look confusing. And just so, strict torso facing would cause confusion too. Averaging it means there's always one very plausible facing, while the two facing to either side lean heavily implausible.

After convincing the bosses that rectangle flamers are logical and not just an MWO pull, now it can be hard to just have a plain round one at times haha.

Not sure whether your comment is directed at me or Bruce but since I didn't say anything about hex facing I'll assume the latter.
I certainly don't mind some "movement" in poses I just want them to look natural, and I do think a couple of the new sculpts maybe went a bit overboard. The Shadow Hawk is the worst offender, it looks like it's embarrassed because somebody surprised it while it was trying to do the splits. Fortunately that's the only really bad one I can think of.

Chief, don't take this the wrong way, but if we are restricted to "face front" on poses, the minis are going to get awful boring, awful fast. Same with weapon positions, etc. Paint a face of your base as the front, and problem is solved.

For me the shoulders, torso not facing an actual hex side is a bit troubling.

The head and left arm are most impressive!

I keep coming back over and over this morning to look at this again, it's so good. I also appreciate that it's a fairly "normal/neutral" pose, while I've loved almost all of the new designs some of the sculpts have bugged me a bit with what I feel are overly-elaborate "action" poses, torso twisted, legs splayed out, head turned, etc. that look odd on the table especially if there's more than one of the same 'Mech being used.

Now if we can get the Shogun and Imp done, I will be able to recreate my red guard battalion Beta Regiment WD with all new sculpts! I cannot wait!

The rectangular flamer barrel was a good change from the sketch, gives it more interest.
