Phoenix Hawk IIC Concept Sketch

Phew. That title is a doozy.

The Phoenix Hawk IIC is another one of those VMI mechs we're hitting where it's original depiction shows none of the weapons it carries. With that we've got some interesting choices to make. Break up the original core shapes to house weapons, or give it semi or fully extrenal weapons pods.

This one was tricky for that because it calls for both long UAC10 barrels sticking out the front, and long jump packs on the back of each side torso. I couldn't go with full shoulder guns, as they'd not mesh well with the JJ's. Didn't want to do underslung belly guns. And I didn't want to completely eat up the cool chest plates. Landed on this mix of the first and third options.

It was also interesting sizing up a lower end medium mech all the way into an assault. Several areas, particularly the head, carry over details from the new regular Phoenix Hawk.

What do you think of it?

Great job!!!!

Joshua Bressel

Looks great in the Rec guide 15 line art!

Good idea.

Anthony Scroggins

Looking forward to see a size comparison between this and it's 45 ton older brother.

Charles Lubanje

I like the cannons.

Tyler Erickson

There are some decently big ones on the back, they're just hidden behind the huge shoulders. When I post the 3D you'll see.

Anthony Scroggins

I really like the new cannons, and I appreciate that it looks like it descended from the new Phoenix Hawk. My one criticism is that I miss the large fins from the original VMI design. They said "This thing shouldn't jump, but somehow it does"

Peter Shah

Practicality must give way in all things

James Bixby

Maybe Blood Asp like canons?

Richard Jensen

The head antenna barely fit, but they do. Doesn't leave much room to turn the head though.

Anthony Scroggins

Shadow Hawk style gun pods are about the limit of how crazy we want to go on those. Building them into the JJ pods would completely break the Battletech aesthetic.

Anthony Scroggins

If we could crisply cast more rotary barrels I'd do that, but they tend to go mushy.

Anthony Scroggins

lol

Anthony Scroggins

Only other possible location is belly/waist guns.

Anthony Scroggins

No, no I did not.

James Bixby

Did you know they make a 4 barrel version, originally designed for gun pods. https://youtu.be/Ddl-Hxbw3V0. (Pay no attention to the weight of the gun...)

This certainly looks much better than the original miniature, and it does straddle the line between the original concept art and the Project Phoenix versions, so I think from that perspective, it's excellent. I'll admit I've never been a fan of the Phoenix Hawk IIC regardless, so I don't have a lot of skin in this game, but I'd buy one of these!

Robert Schuster

It is gorgeous. The leg has more details than the entire original miniature. It would be incredible to see it in a dinamic pose. There are antennae on the head? How will they interact with the jump jet ports? Would be too close? Also, extra kudos on the fin design for the jump jets

I'm echoing everyone else by saying it both look great and awkward. Another example from the wider world of combining weapons and jump jets that I like is: https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/RX-78-6_Mudrock_Gundam

That looks great, but the UAC10s are a bit awkward. In my opinion, and I know you said you didn't want to do it, they would be better served in the latissimus area or outer abdomen. Conversely, creating something more akin to the SLDF Royal variant or VF-1S Super Strike Valkyrie with the canons attached to the jump jets. https://www.rocketpunch.biz/completed-hasegawa-72-vf1s-superstrike-valkyrie/ www.macross2.net/m3/macrossdyrl/vf-1s-strike.htm

Richard Jensen

you did your best with the mission statement you had. got to be honest the VMI Pixie IIC is one of those designs I would have just thrown completely out and started from scratch on the look, especially with the history of HOW it became the Phoneix Hawk IIC during initial publication. I like the legs and the arms here, and I see the head module as being ripped off an original PHX-1. autocannon mounts are a good comprimise, as you said in the post. perfect world I would have gone for a seven barrel arraingment like on the A-10's

James Bixby

Can it dance?

Andrew Wiesner

Nice!

Kanrei13

Now THAT'S a MegaPixie! You're posting these just as I'm accurizing/repainting a Locust IIC, and now I can't wait to see what you do with that one!

Terence Harris

Cannons need to be lowered or raised.

Trevor R.N.

Nice! I can't wait for the other VMI IICs!

Raymond White

Very nice, like the gun placement overall massive upgrade to the orginal

Mark D Booth

That now *looks* BattleTech, in a way it didn't before. The weapon placement still looks a touch awkward but there's not much can be done about it, sticking to the RS. Big, big improvement imo.

Andrew Dickinson

Oh my word. That is an interesting development

Alex F

That looks... Incredibly amazing!!!! :D

Sapphirus

Nailed it! <3

Jordan G Roberts

Oh my. That looks amazing!
