Atlas II Concept Sketch

Here's something interesting I can show off :)
CGL asked for a quick Atlas II redesign for book art needs, Battletech: Legends I believe now that it's been revealed. With all the recent use of 3D models for colorized book art they wanted to keep things consistent. So don't get any wrong ideas, this isn't for a miniature (though who knows in the future).

Not many have love for this design, but with our new Atlas design and the freedom to change this one up, there was plenty of room to make it look good. It's still not as cool as the classic Atlas IMO, but a decent alternate now.

Note, the final right arm barrel arrangement has 5 instead of 4, but I didn't change my sketch.

Was able to re-use a fair bit of Atlas parts in the design (and subsequent 3D model) so that sped things up a lot.

Would you field it as a Kerensky ride, in your Republic forces, or something else?

I never understood why the autocannon is depicted as a multi-barrel, since it's meant to be a LBX10. That said, this looks great, and I hope it does get a new mini, as it would be a GREAT add to my Clan Wolf Beta Galaxy! Clan Wolf used Atlas IIs on Tukkayid, and during the Clan Invasion!

78 / 5000 Übersetzungsergebnisse Hello Anthony The Atlas II will also be available as LineArt Greetings Wilfried

I don’t know. It does scream “upgraded” Atlas to me, so that can’t be bad!

Sorry I missed this for so long. Did you figure out the book yourself? It's got short blurbs on pilots and light mech stats, but nothing like full TRO's or full fiction. It's got a lot of eye candy though.

Anthony Scroggins

I am looking to obtain a copy of this book, is it a TRO style or stories like the Legend series of fiction?

My 2 year old says this is a scary one. The Banshee he likes though.

The ones in the Base and starter boxes. Awesome, Battlemaster, Catapult, Thunderbolt, Wolverine, Griffin, Shadowhawk, Command and Locust.

James Abbot-Cole

Which 9 are pre-KS?

I agree that the arms (especially the shoulders and fists) look a bit oversized, but I think that plays into the Atlas style. I wonder if it would look a bit more proportionate with slightly extended lower legs ans slightly oversized feet.

Peter Shah

I have always loved the Atlas 2, being of Word of Blake fan and all. This reinterpretation is absolutely gorgeous! I certainly hope it becomes a mini some day.

Solomon

I will join in the chorus saying that I *hope* this becomes an official sculpt/release. I love the *concept* of the Atlas II, but I've never been sold on the existing sculpt. It's well-made and highly detailed, but something about it is just... off. It looks a little too WH40K for me? Your rendition here fits BT more, from my perspective.

Robert Schuster

Not sure if I'll do individual renders for all 9, but I might do a group shot.

Anthony Scroggins

Are there renders available for the 9 Pre KS mechs? would like to add those to my collection.

James Abbot-Cole

Waaaay better than the original, pardon me, FORMER original Atlas 2.

Tyler Erickson

I like robo skeletor. Not entirely a fan of the big rotary gun. But other than that, nice!

Jakob Fredensborg

It looks so good, I can almost recover from the loss of the Orions Nu-head.

Aaron Stevens

Joking aside i am one of those guys who loved the Atlas II. You just made it look more Atlasey. This is not a bad thing

James Bixby

THOMAAAAAAAAAAAAS HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRTH!

James Bixby

Mostly like it, thought the Torso looks kind of like the MWO Zeus (not in details) in that it looks like it would look mostly flat from a side view. Also the arms have an oversized gorilla feel. Maybe if they were shrunk down 10% or so? Otherwise pretty nice

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

You have made the Atlas II something I can look at with pride and not shame. Looks 1000% better than the original.

At least in this case I've attempted to make it look like a fixed metal storm type weapon that would work great as an LBX.

Anthony Scroggins

Its a very good Atlas II, even if i dont like the mech. What always triggered me (and does again) is the minigun style LBx. I can accept ultra ac with multibarrels but i always felt in this mech it was just used to trigger kids into buying packs.

Swen Decker

This is way better than the current mini, I do hope they produce it at some point

Tinman

It's hideous and ugly. Good job!

They should send this out to be made into a iron wind miniature and sold through the CGL store for the roll out of the legends book . Just an idea .

Charles granger

Very nice work there on the update, and keeping it stylisticly in-line with the Atlas redesign. I definitely need some of these for my RAF force. Also, I see your pride has defeated you, Mister Wayne

Alex F

Oh man - a DeChavilier image, how did I not THINK of that!?! I've gotta get that assigned to someone... great idea Andrew. You get full props for that idea.

Brent Evans

If CGL solidly decides they don't want to make it a mini, then it's a file IWM could still use at some time.

Anthony Scroggins

I saw the color piece today, looked even better.

Anthony Scroggins

Love the look but with no miniature coming out in the near future for this atlas 2 remake I would not use this art . People will buy the atlas 2 from iron winds and be upset that the mini doesn't match this . But awesome job on making it look so good .

Charles granger

Devlin Stone would definitely ride this. Kerensky would be in his Orion with DeChavilier covering his rear

Andrew Bethards

Yep, gotta admit this one turned out nicely. I can't wait until folks see the colored images in LEGENDS to offer the game's ultimate yay or nay. I think folks will really embrace it.

Brent Evans

Hell yea!

Kanrei13

Hah.

Anthony Scroggins

Very nice

Mark D Booth

Man, this gritty new Darktrooper image is awesome... ;)
