Lancelot Concept Sketch

Bishop wanted me to post this one up so that you can all check out his work. (Still laughing that pirates are saying I'm stealing from him, as they steal from him)

I may have lined over much of this one, but a lot of it was shifting bits a little, or converting a curve to a straight or vice versa. He got the core idea down pretty good.

As Bishop mentioned on his patreon page, this is his last assignment for the KS. We've only got a few mechs left to design and they're all assigned out. Woohoo end of the tunnel visible!
Good job Bishop!

So is this a good Lancelot?

Yeah, I didn't consider the "silhouette" angle for the Lancelot, but now that you mention it, that makes total sense. I'm definitely excited to see how this plays out in 3Dβ€”the ones Bishop's done are all really interesting and cool changes but they're not as "obvious" to imagine as miniatures as the other ones which are either *significantly different* or just minor tweaks. This and the Mercury in particular are in that sort of "in-between" space where I don't just don't know how it'll translate until I see it. I will say, the more I look at the head/cockpit, the better it gets. That's totally the weird "bug face" that the original Lancelot had, but sharper and more aggressive.

Robert Schuster

This is defintely a design where its main silhouete was by far its most defining feature, and a pretty unique silhouette at that. Some of its original art is also extremely sparse on surface detail, it's legs often have zero. That leads to the flip you accurately note. Having more silhouette retained, but almost all surfaces changed.

Anthony Scroggins

Some of those are already done too :)

The protomech?

I'd like to see a little more slope on those angled armor plates, but it still looks good as is. I love the head and cockpit on this. Good job.

This is actually one of the most significantly changed designs from the original in the sense that almost all of its small details are different. The major shapes are absolutely there, but it's definitely a departure... Bishop did the same with the Mercury and to an extent the Sentinel, and those both looked excellent despite being clear departures. This one is similar: it looks great, but it also looks significantly different from the original. In this case, unlike with the Mercury and the Sentinel, I think a lot of people have no problems with how the original Lancelot looks, so my feeling is that it might be less of a welcome "massive departure", *but*... I dunno, I really like it. Do I love how different it is? Ehhhh... but it looks good both as an "update" to the Lancelot AND as its own sort of standalone design.

Robert Schuster

Good job !! I'm guessing that the next KS update will be "Comstar Battle Level II Redesign Sketches" then. So only 7 designs to go by my count ; Goshawk, Incubus, Piranha, Horned Owl, Hellion, Pack Hunter and Howler. Since all of them are already assigned, I wonder who got what. Any chance of a hint ?

TIM STRAUVEN

I love this design, cannot wait to get my hands on it. Maybe it's just its namesake but I will be fielding it many times.

Andrew McKenna

I like it. The thighs are a bit thick for a Lancelot, but I like the shapes. I'd just thin the thighs a smidge and call it perfect.

Richard Jensen

It's not bad. I would make the spotlight on the left shoulder a touch bigger. I always would have preffered this mech design was a little more round like the Flashman and Black Knight but that isn't the goal of this redesign. otherwise I need to see the CG Rendering to look at other details.

James Bixby

That's an awesome Lancelot, very well done! The pirates are hilarious. Not an original thought in their heads, and they assume everyone else is the same.

Terence Harris

Very nice! I wonder if the "Roc" is included in the mechs that are left?

Robert Moore

Nice!

It's a winner!

Carlos Sempere

Damn nice work! Bishop Steiner really did a nice job with this one!

Steven Cross

Another fantastic looking Mech, well done guys!

Danny

Yeah I opted to not show the armless version, but I can assure you it's got a pretty nice CT shape going. Maybe Bishop can post the full breakdown when the NDA is lifted.

Anthony Scroggins

The Lancelot always looked kind of awkward to me, but this is a nice re-design that is very faithful to the original. I'd like to have seen more of the torso, but I also understand that would mean moving the arm first. Nice work!

Alex F

Hah! Thanks.

Anthony Scroggins

I saw the notification pop up on my phone, read it was the lancelot, and took a deep breath. When I opened the page, I was able to exhale in satisfaction. Nice job on one that really needed it.
