Hellhound Concept Sketch

Here's the Hellhound/Conjurer.
This one IMO has never had good art, the CCG art was passable but kinda vague, a weak mini. Even the loose VMI source sketch isn't great.
Personally I wanted to go with the MW4 Hellhound, but management wanted that Wolverine heritage, so the plan was to run with my Wolverine concept and meld in the good parts of the Hellhound.

Not a mech I'm too invested in so my feelings aren't strong, but I think it came out nicely. You like?

Did this ever get made into a mini?

Burning Chrome

I really hope we get to see that!!!!!

Joshua Bressel

I love it! Very excited to see the mini rendering

I strongly campaigned for that, but not this time. Later though :)

Anthony Scroggins

While I like this a lot, it's OBVIOUSLY a Wolverine IIc. I am a bit disappointed that you guys didn't swing for the fences, and go with the MW4. This looks great.....but missed opportunity.

Joshua Bressel

I personally liked the chicken walker version from MW4, but I do like the new lease on life you gave its old design I must admit.

EtolGhost

Just got a high priority HPG from the FWL.... the Icarus says it would like it's Cockpit back... :P

Benjamin Myers (Bishop Steiner)

This is the one I've been waiting for, (big Wolverine fan here) and I like it. The twin meds are a bit jarring at first but it looks like a thinner Wolvie, which makes since as it's 5 tons lighter.

Matthew Morris

I like the chest vents. It has vibes of the Project Phoenix version while still looking cool. My initial thoughts on the overall model were that it looked too similar to the Wolverine, but comparing it to the AGOAC mini, it isn't as close as I thought. I think my mind is probably just seeing the similarities with the MWO Wolverine. Looks nice, but I would have liked to see more distinctive differences between them similar to how you improved the Marauder designs.

Ryan de Haas

I'm a MASSIVE fan of the Conjurer. Always have been, always will be. I defend Project Phoenix a lot, *but* I think that the Reseen Conjurer was a... misstep *at best*. I also understand the temptation to go for the MW4 Hellhound, but honestly, even though it was supposed to be that game's version of this thing, it's an entirely different mech (different armament, no jets, totally different albeit awesome look, totally different lore [it's a Jade Falcon Omni from 3059 instead of a second-line update of the Wolverine from the 2800s]). But yeah, I always loved the VMI art, and I loved the mini, so much so that I have three of them and was going to buy more until I saw it was going to be included here. I've been waiting for this sketch to come out. I think you *NAILED* it. I love it. I want like 20. I am so, *so* happy it came out like this.

That wolverine IIC looks great!

Perfection! My first thoughts glancing at this was "We already have a wolver... wait that looks distinctly 'clanny'." And that's exactly how a IIC should make an IS pilot think. It looks like our stuff but more advanced and more killey.

Aaron Stevens

I love a cockpit with good visibility. Excellent work. Is that a little supercharger on its head?

Easily recognizable. Nice job.

Richard Jensen

I'm glad it has that strong wolverine vibe! My favorite rendition since the VMI designs were discarded.

Mark

Wolverine IIC! That pretty well nails it. And thank you for completely ignoring the Project Phoenix abomination.

Kanrei13

I was hoping for the mw4 as well but this is pretty sweet. Exudes wolverine. Be sure to sketch us up a new MW4 hellhound after the campaign. Ya know, just for the S&G.

Christopher Eastwood

I love it! As you say, the original and mini were a bit bland, but the MW4 certain was just way too much of a departure. This is perfect! Now I'm really looking forward to your take on the Zaku-er, Horned Owl!

Terence Harris

The Wolverine heritage comes through clearly in this. The only confusion I had was figuring out the loadout at a glance. I had to go to Sarna to realize that the right shoulder held a pair of medium lasers (and not an SRM2) and it was 2 SSRM2s on the left instead of an SSRM4. I'm not sure if it's possible, but the Conjurer 2 and 4 variants seem like they would lend to more distinctive models (now that I've looked up the variants on Sarna).

Maarten Broekman

This is one of my fave Clan 'mechs, along with the Stone Rhino and Peregrine. I did like the original art, but you certainly haven't done it wrong here. Thumbs-up!

I'm really big into the fluff behind mechs. If I saw that for the first time I'd report to HQ that the Clans have a Wolverine IIC. So I think you've nailed the it.

Nyxus

I like it. I think you hit all the right points. The MW4 version is ok, but it's not what I grew up with so I prefer this one that's closer to the original.

It's nice seeing another mech redesigned but wow, missed opportunity. People are constantly trying to hunt down MW4 Hellhounds. Was really hoping they would go with that look. We already have a Wolverine. Hopefully you guys still have power to add it to CGL's library in the future.

Andrew McKenna

Awesome!

This is an unholy union of Griffon and Wolverine aesthetics that should NOT work... but really do! I love this mech.

You might want to check again... this mech is in the Striker Star

Malintus

What an improvement.

Tyler Erickson

Aww man, was really hoping to see the adoption of the MW4 look, what a missed opportunity... I understand this is after all a IIC and thus must have some resemblance to the original design and somewhat respect the miniature legacy, but I also think there are already a ton of humanoid mechs out there. Sometimes they just start to blend together, which could not be the case here. David White's take on it was solid, aged really well too! That being said I'm also digging this thing, looks sleek and the increased amount of angled surfaces gives it an "advanced" appearance.

BFenix

I absolutely love the Conjurer. I use it in most tabletop sessions, and chose it for my custom character. For months I've been waiting to see this, worried it would end up being the MW4 version, which was a neat design, but NOT a Conjurer at all. I was prepared for the wrist-mounted gun (since I know you're not into the handhelds), but it definitely looks like the Wolverine's gun so I can't fault your consistency! I love love LOVE this. I can't wait to get my hands on the miniature, and this totally made my day. A true beauty!

David Razi

I wouldn’t mind crazy flared-out lower legs and/or narrower hips, but it looks good already. This is a mini I plan to use a lot of. I assume we’ll need to do the antennae ourselves. These images help as a guide for that.

Carlos Sempere

I think they were right to lean into the Wolverine aspect of the design. You made it look very nice. Well done.

Andrew Bethards

I would have loved the MW4 Hellhound as well and wish there was a way to at least canonize the art into a mech.

Taylor Shead

Like it!!

The chest seems disproportionately small (at least to me), but otherwise , this is a solid redo. I like the how you incorporated details that clearly reference the re-seen wolverine. Nice work.

That’s a beefy Wolverine IIC, worthy of its designation. I dig

Joe Wright

For me, the VMI art in TRO:3055 will always typify the Hellhound, and this is... not very reminiscent of that. But when I look back at that art, what defines it is giant legs, giant shield, tiny head - all things that don't really work with the current aesthetic. That was too "anime." This redesign will take some getting used to, but what I really like about it is the chest vents - those were, to me, defining characteristics of the VMI designs, so although this doesn't scream VMI Hellhound to me, it does very much honour the VMI aesthetic.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention how the reseen version is atrocious :D

Anthony Scroggins

I usually don't "get" these critiques too well, knowing it's going to be made the right size :D The big mohawk is weird, but it's on the original so I wanted to honor that.

Anthony Scroggins

This made me pause and go check to see if I had the Ad Hoc Star in my survey. I love it; definitely a welcome surprise.

nice basic vanilla mech

Very nice update there of a truly under-rated 'Mech. I think you did a great job of bringing out the Wolverine heritage

Alex F

Fantastic, I love it!

Danny

This scratches an itch for me. This was one of my favorite mechs back in junior high / high school. The reseen just never did anything for me. This works for me. Thank you.

I like the direction it’s headed... but it feels a little..... little. I know it’s a smaller mech... but it feels a tish pint sized? Maybe tone down the Mohawk... maybe ditch the chest vents?

Hell, yes, I'm lovin' it!!

Brian Sausley

Yeah I am totally in the same boat.

Nothing wrong with that, but I’d love to see your take on the MW4 version one day

David
