Raven Concept Sketch

Birb time!
Raven mech ready to send off for the bosses approvals.
I like the MWO Raven but I know not everyone is a fan of the very angular departure it made, so I committed to pulling off the curved torso. Luckily I'd explored this many years ago in a fan commission so I had a starting point. Mixed in some MW4 themes too.
Also nice is that the Raven has such a unique shape overall that it's easy to change smaller details around without ever risking loss of recognition.

What do you think of it? Best Raven?

Best raven.

I love that you've brought back the curves for this mech! I think this looks spot-on. As much as I love the design of the original, the vast dome of its roof always seemed barren and rangy. This looks like it's going to limit that some by not drooping so low in the nose, and having that right arm higher than the original model.

Ben

It's way better than the original, but, honestly, I prefer the look of the MWO Raven. It has more of a "Stealth Fighter" feel to me, and I really think of this as a sneaky ELINT/EW mech.

Joshua Bressel

looks better than the original. never been a big fan of the Raven or the Capellan Confederation though.

Jeffery Smith

great blend of old and new

Well it's got a whole side torso with no weapons, so It'll be hard to not have some sort of sensor detail there. Though Beagle and ECM don't really get super prominent representations, as the gear isn't that large or heavy.

Anthony Scroggins

Smaller SRM.

William Janak

Love the lines overall. Maybe the body looks just a titch small compared to arms & legs? But the overall effect works for sure.

Nice, curvy, and mischievous-looking! Have a couple quibbles, though. I think I prefer in-line knees more than the MW4 ones, and the medium lasers seem fat. The cockpit also seems a bit low on the beak for some reason. I know I'm being nitpicky, but the OG/MechCommander Raven's just hard to beat IMO.

Zachary Parliman

You took all the best features of the various Ravens and combined them perfectly. Don't change a thing.

Kanrei13

It’s a very nice redesign, though I do have to say the torso/cockpit area almost feels too skinny if that makes sense. Maybe it’s the profile but the crooked finger look is a little off of that makes sense.

The medium lasers look slightly large but I love the overall dynamic of the mech. It's look well balanced and ready to run, run and gun.

Martin Sweeney

I think this guy looks nice. I'm so glad you kept the torso in its "beak" shape. You did a nice job.

I’d like a view of the other aide, see if the electronics package is significantly bulky looking. The mech body is fantastic

James Bixby

I always felt the MWO Raven would have looked good for the later stealth variations, with the angle evoking the F-117 and all.

James Bixby

Excellent! The Raven's always been one of the coolest mechs out there (and also honestly quite good on the table), and though the MWO look is pretty good, it was always just missing that cool "curved beak" look that the original had. This is a refinement of the original, IMO, and I think it works very well.

Robert Schuster

Is the Raven taller [edit: bigger] than I think, or is that a baby SRM launcher? I do like it overall, but that seems to stick out to me.

Mike

The long nose is deceptive in hiding the other side torso. All three torsos have quite a bit of width, but that wont be nailed down until the 3D stage for this one. I went with the MW4 knees for this one.

Anthony Scroggins

Haha, there's a point where you start having a little too much glass, and the Raven already has quite a bit by default.

Anthony Scroggins

Best raven is a tough call, because they always look really good. But I like it a lot. The cockpit looks like it could slide back a bit - and maybe have another strut or two in there - but overall really sharp looking.

The med-lasers look like they could even be naval sized lasers. Im curious how it will look next to the new panther. The torso, im honest, took me a minute to get used to, i guess i expected more aggressive looking sharp edges at THE ecm mech. Please note that this is high-end criticism, id 100% use a mini based on this sketch. :)

Swen Decker

I love this look, as long as there's some engine cowling detailing like on the old one. But I do like that there's some blank, curvy space behind the cockpit. Makes it feel pretty different from the original even though it's kept so much.

Carlos Sempere

Oh, I love it! One of my favourite lights just got even better 😁

Andrew Dickinson

The legs are nagging at me. I really like it overall, but the legs seem a bit too wide or maybe the body not wide enough? Maybe it's the angle. The side knee joints are different, but still look good and I like them. The more standard knees would probably narrow the legs to make it more rounded, but then they would be too close together. The more I look at it, the more I think the angle is just making it look a bit distorted and I'm just rambling. I like it. I'll use it. I'll drive my player group to insanity with it. Good job!

Looks great so far. But I've always seen this as a more agile mech. I think it would go a long way to give the blocky MWO style look the boot. More angular armor plating would suit the mech well and match the way the Center Torso looks. Either way I'd field it. At least it doesn't have the heinous MWO giant flat foot look hahahaha.

Andrew McKenna

Really like it, especially as I'm a CapCon fanboy. 😁 The beak is nice and not as big as with the old Raven and the mech looks like the light it's supposed to be. The med lasers are a bit big, but as this is scaled it's all ok. Great job!

Henning Boessler

Quoth the raven "Eat my shorts" I mean, "Nevermore!" Nevertheless, it looks great!

Sapphirus

I like it, maybe a bit more cockpit window extending backwards like Panther's Raven in the Mechcommander Intro. The 3 Segemented Cockpit looked really sharp. Be nice to pay tribute to the Raven who took out the Timberwolf :)

Loving the nice mix of angled and curvilinear elements. I'll admit I'm a fan of the more angled look, but you've absolutely managed to take the ol droopy nose and make it super slick.

Loving it!

It's just a fat missile that is beefy enough to survive impacting and attaching to armor. So yeah, just an even bigger tube than an SRM. The little gimballed slit on the side torso is the tag laser.

Anthony Scroggins

Yay birb!

Steve McNabb

Good stuff. Glad you kept it curved

Christopher Eastwood

Perfect. Is that what a Narc looks like? Not too many mechs use them.

Patrick D

Chalk me up as a fan of the MWO look. But this is nice too. Would love to have a couple for the old tabletop.

Kargush

Cute. I like it!
