Hatchetman 3D Sculpt

Here's some more 3D mech goodness, all images public so go ahead and share them around.
Another sculpt by Alan Blackwell. (See a trend? He's fast!)

Ready to cave some cockpits in. And when the mech is too tall? Relieve some knee actuators.

<3 <3 LOVE IT!!!!

Heavy Metal Pro is hopelessly out of date. Download Solaris Skunk Werks here: https://github.com/Solaris-Skunk-Werks

Kanrei13

Yeah I just tried to make a Hatchetman 3F using Heavy Metal Pro and I couldn't do it. How will this mech be made legal?

Tyler Erickson

At first I thought that the recessed armor panels under the real cockpit window were the windows. Put with a better view I could see where I was wrong.

Steve McNabb

Interesting bit of trivia there.

Tyler Erickson

Considering how lousy movies have been lately with all the politics and agendas of the actors, let us HOPE they don't make a BT movie.

Tyler Erickson

I'm not sure what you mean. The head is the cockpit.

Anthony Scroggins

Same with not being a fan of Melee mechs in general. (You've got big guns that go boom boom boom, why are you kicking and punching??) But it does look particularly nice here.

Now that I look at it on my home computer where is the cockpit supposed to be? At first I thought is was those 3 windows on the underside of the nose, but now with greater detail it looks like it could be where you expect it to be on a Hachetmen.

Steve McNabb

outside of Gundam's and Transformers I've never been a fan of Melee mech;s. I like this Hatchy though. maybe with some Urby's for city fighting.

Jeffery Smith

Again loving the multi angle shots. Thank you! I've never been a big Hatchetman user, but it's looking like I may be putting a few into action now. That piston/hinge/thing on the hatchet is a great detail. Big thu...hatchets up!

Knees are spotlights, heels can deploy down as braces either for melee attacks or I guess to help it lean as it aims into the air (has AA lore).

Anthony Scroggins

If they ever make a BT movie - they won't - that needs to be in there.

Mike

Leeeean back :D Also Tara Campbell jump jetted into the air in her hatchetman to hatchet a vtol once :D

Anthony Scroggins

Be careful to not mention the clear answers then dismiss them. It's definitely low detail because this is a miniature haha. And yes, the pommel is also for counterweight, though not much. But yeah, making the attachment joint more articulated looking? That's all crevice detail that can't be done on an object that thin. Also, leave physics out of Battletech :P

Anthony Scroggins

Is it ever mentioned anywhere in the fluff what the doohickies on the knees are. And the heels too.

Christopher Eastwood

I’m ever so slightly bothered by the hinge point being a little bit towards the back, if that’s what you’re talking about. The forces exerted on the pommel by the arm piston will only be significant in one direction (when attacking), so I’d have put the hinge point further forward to get more material in the pommel ring behind the hinge where all the bearing stress will be.

Carlos Sempere

I wanted to say the cockpit looked weird and too far forward, but I looked at the previous minis and it is that close to the front of the head. Guess thats why I liked the Dark Age Hachetman.

Steve McNabb

I still don't understand how the Hatchetman is a AA-mech with the AC is its torso, but this is the best it's ever looked.

Mike

I love the hinge on the hatchet!

If the mass were somewhere useful or if it didn't need to be a functional joint for the hatchet to be effective, I might agree with that perspective. I hope it's a place-holder that didn't get finished (yet).

Joe M Emmert

I can see why you say that... alternatively... you could think of it as a giant piece of cast-space-iron - purely there to add mass, and kick a...uh... you get the idea.

the hatchet is a nice compromise of the PC games Design and the traditional semi- separate component. And we finally see the Autocannon barrel! A+

James Bixby

It looks great, but ... The hatchet is the defining feature of this 'mech (even if, without the hatchet, it could be beastly 40-tonner), and I love the detail in the bits that are included, but the bottom of the hatchet bothers me. The solid ring attaching the pommel to the power-assist actuator is the first joint I've seen in this series that doesn't look functional. I realize that this is a small piece ... the whole joint is probably less than 5mm in diameter ... but as posed, it is such a prominent fixture that I would have expected a bit more detail.

Joe M Emmert

Seconded! I also love that it appears to be on a hinge, so you can see how the mech can actually use that hand for other stuff without the hatchet getting in the way.

Terence Harris

Over all I like this models. The only critique I would have is that I think it is a better match for the 5S's stats, the legs look a little too beefy for the 3F. 100% will be using

Nyxus

The junk's off-center. :) Yes, this morning, I am six.

I like the hatchet actually being attached to the arm (as it is in the rules) rather than just holding it.

Kanrei13

Excited now to see the Axman!

Great design!

I think almost every piece of old art properly locates the AC in the chest, they just didn't have weapon consistency guides then so they're fairly small (realistic) holes.

Anthony Scroggins

Oh, that is very nice. I especially like that you actually found a location for the Autocannon, something the design has struggled with. It's a fitting update for what's one of the most important BattleMech designs in the franchises' evolution

Alex F

Yep. I'm in line to pilot this bad boy.
