Cougar Translation

How's she look?

Other than the original miniature falling a little short, Battletech is full of good Cougar art, so I never wanted to change it much. More wanting to collect all the best parts and put them together.
Most of that boiled down to combining Matt Plog's great lineart with the large rear reactor housing from Mech Commander. I like a lot of the MC design, but it's also just a tiny sprite.

I unintentionally gave the new miniature a similar pose to the tro art, so here's a side by side shot.

Enjoy, and happy new year!

Yeah, sometimes it's hard to detail the change, but it can be felt, for lack of a better word.

Mike

A lot of people think of proportion changes starting around 10% or more. Or that they don't care about or notice errors below that. In my system we're most often doing 5% pushes, and in some cases even 2% makes noticeable critical differences. It's that extra bit of precision that fine tunes these designs.

Anthony Scroggins

Now this is starting off the new year with the right foot! Again, I'm realizing, especially with your redesigns, that proportions might be one of the fundamental aspects that were, maybe not missing, but being mishandled in previous artwork.

BFenix

New year, new-ish Cougar, nice!

Peter Campi

Happy New Year and yeah, looks great. Hopefully this year Ironwind will start putting out metal versions of the Armored Warfare core box and starter set.

Tyler Erickson

Do you have any other angles you could show? I think it’s just the angle, but it looks a touch... top-heavy?

Its a gem! A very happy 2020 to you too.

Jakob Fredensborg

Another one knocked out of the park! Also one of my favourites, it's a great little mech with a big punch - looking forward to a day I can get this one on the table!

Andrew Dickinson

How it's always been. Quite a few clan mechs have inner mounted lower legs.

Anthony Scroggins

Nice one!

My first experience with the cougar was in MC and it looked nothing like the art in the book to me. Always reminded me of some kind of kitchen appliance with legs. But otherwise, the cougar was always a clean design. Didnt need much work

Christopher Eastwood

llllllllegs always looked to skinny on the Couger, this is much better.

Jeffery Smith

Love the Cougar, one of my favorite light mechs for the late Clan Invasion and Civil War eras. You did a fantastic job updating some of the features and keeping with the old look and feel, including that awesome fighter jet-style cockpit!

Well done , I played my first cougar Dragon Con in Sept fell in love with it, Happy New Year!

Robert Moore

The Cougar has been my favourite Mech since I first got introduced to the BattleTech universe in MechCommander. Once again, you have created a beautiful piece of art. That made my day. 2020 will be awesome!

Damn nice! you fixed the only issue with the Cougar's art, its huge 'toes' and as Count_Jester said, making the cockpit a bit bigger makes sense :) Looks great :)

Steven Cross

I like most of it. The lower legs being on the INSIDE of the leg joins seems very odd...

Joshua Bressel

I think the increased cockpit size scales better with the size the pilot is supposed to be that sits in it. Thumbs Up! View of the back?
