Stalker Nose

What do you think of this heavy referencing of the Japanese Stalker torso?

The Stalker is a very ugly/joked mech so I think this is an interesting route to make it look more aggressive, instead of a blimp, dildo, or going the mwo octagon route.

Comments

It looks like a T-Rex hahaha. Still 10x better than the MWO one.

Andrew McKenna

much better than the ugly one that has been used for years

Jeffery Smith

Really like this one...as was written a lot before: now this is a decent Mech again and not a dildo any more. Thanks for this and I'm really looking forward to the box he is in...

Henning Boessler

Loved the fact you used some design inspirations from the Japanese style Stalker. Its nice to see even those "eccentric" designs getting a little use out of them(I am a pretty big fan of some of those mechs). I think what you have going looks amazing! Are there any other mechs you borrowed some stuff from the Japanese designs?

You just HAAAAAD to say it didn't you. You just HAD to say it and make me go look at it again and sit helplessly as my brain melted with three dimensional space processing.

Totally unrelated: IDK how the rights work out, but are you or CGL going to be creating a coloring book from the line art? Just the thing for testing paint schemes....

Love this! I've been meaning to ask, when you guys are asked to redesign these mechs are you given a specific variant to base it on or do you try and make it a sort of generic loadout that most mechs of that chassis would be built around?

I think the doors for the missile pods AND the lasers are pretty cool too, I like the torso and "heavy" feel of the large laser and SRM pods on the sides as well. All in all this is looking pretty good!

I want to like everything about it, the Stalker is one of my favorite mechs, but that Mouser (from TMNT) or Tremors style-nose makes me feel like it's gonna eat me!

I'm not a big fan of the MWO stuff *for the most part*, but the Stalker is one of the examples where I think they just absolutely knocked it out of the park. I really disliked the Stalker until I saw the MWO version, and now it's one of my favorite mechs. That said, I don't think this Stalker should look like the MWO Stalker because we already have a mini that aped the MWO style in the Stalker II (seriously, it looks just like it). Because of that, I think this more bulky, "primitive"-looking Stalker design works quite well. It's neat to think of it as a horizontal version of the pod-style Ost mechs—"Let's take a pod and put it on legs with guns!"

Robert Schuster

I like it, it looks like a dropship on legs.

MechaParade

Something about the very tip of the nose looks off to me. I think it is how the top and bottom panels look hinged. Is that intentional? I agree that the cockpit could use something. Perhaps raise the back of it so it looks less like a skylight? Aside from that, really like the way the weapons are all visible and obvious.

Could we get the arms of the Japanese style Stalker? Those really took the design from good to great.

Lexikon

I love it

When I looked at the design I thought the 6 pack was pointed to the side and now looking at it looks like it is pointed to the front!

Robert Moore

Its still a vast improvement over the Nuclear attack sub that had been partially rammed through a building of the original design though.

Steven Cross

I see a parrot’s beak and big, beady large laser eyes. Not having real arms emphasizes the avian look. It’s an interesting take on the Stalker, and in the moments when I don’t see a bird I like it a lot. The width of the large laser pods really helps. The vertical-near symmetry is a neat idea. I can’t really see what’s going on with the cockpit, but the smaller, the better - it’d help emphasize how bulky this thing is. I like how the lower legs and feet are looking, too.

Carlos Sempere

Positives for me. 1) all of the weapon doors, even on the medium lasers! consider for the SRMs as well please. Consider the large lasers looking Semi Retractable as well. think of the F-22 and F-35 and how their weapon doors open for the split second needed to fire Missiles 2) Finally we have legs that don't look terrible. the old style legs with knees that could go forward OR backward were a terrible idea and had to be removed. Glad you went with Back Canted knees, that always looks good. 3) the "Arms" for want of a proper description, look like separate pieces from the body, which is awesome Negatives 1) not fond of the recessed to the point of damn near being hidden cockpit 2) Main Body's armor plating does not match the styling of Stalkers past. my main concern is the armored plates being curved around the aft to Fore Axis instead of curving laterally as seen on the original stalker and Stalker II 3) I would favor more of a Snubbed or flat nose to the Stalker, again a small appeal to tradition considering how previous artwork has tended to depict the machine. 4) not 100% Sold on the look of the large lasers, but I am not against how they look here either. I am wondering if they should swap places with the SRMs but I am not committed to that idea. I am sure I will have more comments both for and against different bits when more refined artwork is avaliable.

James Bixby

Hot damn as my main assault mech in the early days of mwo this is a huge improvement... Really want to reconsider pledges now...

Reikenan

FULL APPROVAL.

Terence Harris

It’s perfect, is there a link to the Japanese Stalker? I don’t believe I have seen that one

Tinman

Also - the stalker has had “surprised ears” in many renditions... if you can give it a longer torso (front and back?), maybe angle the nose down in the model (so it looks a little more menacing) and make sure it doesn’t look surprised, I think it’s a home run.

I like the design, but it looks a bit like rodent teeth.

Swen Decker

Unexpected, but bery visually interesting. Even though it had stubby legs, the Japanese Stalker was one of my favorite of that set of designs.

Raymond White

I'm not a fan of the tabbed plates on the nose, but the rest of it is suitably mean. Is that black on top glass for the cockpit?

Mike

I have the 3025 tech readout so yeah I know.

Tyler Erickson

Was never a fan of the stalker for obvious comedy reasons - but I like this!

Andrew Dickinson

Have you ever seen the original Stalker model or art? It was a dildo strapped to a box on absurdly long legs :p

Steven Cross

Very very very nice, a massive improvement over the dick in a box on absurdly long legs.

Steven Cross

Thank you for keeping the stalker 2 leg design , love it . Can't wait to see what you do with the king crab.

Charles granger

I like it!

David

So... I'm a stewing. Off the cuff, I like it more than any other stalker I have seen but possibly two - and that is the Stalker II you designed, and one of the concept sketches from around the pre-MWO era... maybe by Alex... its the one with the "Get out of here Stalker!" meme - I think I liked both of those because they had a much bigger torso-to-leg ratio, and the legs were slimmer. The slimmer legs gave them the feel of being able to "stalk" about - like a (slow) Jungle-Cat - as opposed to the thick-boi MWO version that pony pranced. TLDR - I like the shape of the nose - but would like to see torso lengthened, and legs slimmed.

I never knew ive liked the stalker my entire life until now.

Like a dido..... really dude?

Tyler Erickson

I like this one a lot

Hmm... I'm gonna have to let this one stew, I think. Not particularly feeling it right now, but I think that's because I really liked the MWO stalker design. Maybe if the sensors were just below the nose hanging below a slight shelf it might feel more like an aggressive beak instead of an awkward blunt nose. Idk.

Alexander J De Santis

I think the cockpit should be just a TINY bit more pronounced, like how the MWO Stalker's is, but I absolutely love this, Anthony! I'm holding my breath on the legs, if you do as good a job as you did on the Stalker II, this thing will surpass both the MWO Stalker and Staler II!!!!! It is absolutely fantastic! I can't wait to see the 3049 variant on this, with the larger LRM racks!!!!

Joshua Bressel

I know what you mean I saw teh picture and knew exactly what mech i was looking at even though it was different than how it's been portrayed before. it's a great design as it captures the essentials of the mech while being... better than what came before.

John Poniske

You mean how the Stalker II felt a bit more MWO? I designed that one, wasn't entirely happy with it, but the limited weapons load was also stifling.

Anthony Scroggins

you bite your tounge... bird mech is best mech :)

John Poniske

Yes. This please.

Lexikon

Nice! I love the recessed optics suite (?) in the nose + on the roof and the dual missile/laser doors. Still feels stalker-y, in a good way.

Fantastic. Question not criticism: Did you even entertain the idea of forward bending legs?

Christopher Eastwood

I kind of liked the more MWO approach taken with the Stalker II myself

Alex F

I haven't felt the strong need to comment on any of the designs so far except the MAD II (I love her chunky ass) but this... This is inspired. I love the stalker but have never really "liked" the look.. this looks great
